Do not begin while driving. Pairing requires attention on both displays, and Google specifically says to finish Android Auto setup while parked. If another phone is already connected, use the Equinox phone-management controls to select the intended phone or temporarily disconnect the other device. A phone can be Bluetooth-paired without projection being enabled, so check for the separate CarPlay or Android Auto permission when prompted.
Wireless availability is a vehicle-equipment question as well as a phone question. How do I connect my iPhone to Chevy Equinox wireless CarPlay?

How do I pair Android Auto with my Equinox?

Can I use a USB cable instead?
Yes. Wired projection is the practical fallback when wireless pairing is unavailable or unstable, and the 2022 Equinox manual permits USB as a way to begin first-time wireless setup. What to do when the Equinox will not connect

- Verify that the Equinox is equipped for the feature and that the phone is compatible.
- On the 2022 system, open Home > Settings > Apps and check that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto have not been disabled.
- Restart the phone and infotainment system, then repeat the pairing prompts while parked.
- Make sure you are looking at the vehicle Home Page; projection may be available but not launched automatically.
A missing icon can indicate unavailable equipment rather than a pairing error. Menus differ on other model years, so use the corresponding owner’s manual if that path is not present.

The phone charges but projection never starts
- Move the cable to a confirmed USB data port; Chevrolet notes that some ports are charging-only.
- Try the phone’s original cable. A cable can deliver power while failing to carry the data required for projection.
- Unlock the phone and look for a permission or trust prompt that is waiting for approval.
- After accepting the prompts, select the CarPlay or Android Auto icon manually if automatic launch does not occur.
Wireless setup does not begin
- Turn on Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi. For Android, also turn on Location Services.

The wrong phone connects, or you want to stop automatic projection
Disconnect the phone through the vehicle’s phone-management screen. A different model year may use another label or location. Removing the phone from the vehicle’s paired-device list is a separate, more complete reset if you no longer want it recognized.

Later connections do not normally require you to repeat every terms screen, but the phone still needs its wireless functions available. If Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth or (for Android) Location Services is turned off, automatic wireless projection may not complete. A cable can restore access while you correct those settings.
