Honda’s suggested price is a useful reference, not a promise of what any dealer must charge. Your target should come from current, written, comparable offers—not a claimed “standard” percentage below MSRP.
Start by selecting the exact model year, trim, powertrain, color and equipment. Give every dealer the same stock number or configuration and request the vehicle price, destination, accessories, dealer fees, taxes, title and registration on separate lines. Only after agreeing on that vehicle price should you evaluate financing, a trade-in or an incentive.

Know Honda’s current suggested prices before you negotiate
Honda’s September 9, 2026 U.S. pricing release lists both a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) and a destination-inclusive suggested price. The destination-inclusive figure adds a $1,295 destination charge in this revision. It is still not an out-the-door price: taxes, license, registration, dealer fees, accessories and color upgrades are not included. Honda also says dealer prices may vary.

Read the complete September 9, 2026 Honda Accord pricing release for the manufacturer’s definitions and exclusions. “MSRP” is Honda’s suggested retail figure; it is not a legally required selling price. The destination-inclusive amount is a better starting comparison because destination is a real charge, but it remains below the final amount you will pay.
Choose one precise car before requesting offers
Negotiation fails when dealers are quoting different cars. Decide whether you want the gasoline Accord or an Accord Hybrid, then select the model year and trim. Record exterior color, interior color, factory options, wheel or package choices and any equipment that matters to you. Honda presents the sedan and hybrid as distinct shopping choices on its Accord family page, which also links to dealer inventory and quote tools.
Ask for the vehicle identification number (VIN) or stock number when possible. A stock number lets a dealer price a specific vehicle rather than a generic build. Confirm whether the car already has dealer-installed items such as window tint, paint protection, wheel locks, nitrogen, theft marking or a protection package. These items can make two vehicles with the same trim and color materially different.

- Model year: verify that every quote is for a 2026 Accord if that is the car you intend to buy.
- Powertrain and trim: “Accord SE” and “Accord Sport Hybrid” are not interchangeable configurations.
- Color and factory equipment: confirm color surcharges and included packages.
- Dealer-installed accessories: list each item and its individual price.
- Availability: ask whether the quoted vehicle is physically in stock, incoming or only an allocation.
Request written, itemized out-the-door quotes
“OTD” means the full purchase amount required to buy and register the vehicle in your transaction, including the applicable vehicle price, dealer charges, taxes, title and registration. Because taxes and government fees vary by location, an OTD number without its components is difficult to compare.
Send the same request to several dealers. Email is useful because it creates a record, but a text message or phone call followed by written confirmation can work. Give each dealer the stock number and state where the vehicle will be titled. Ask for an expiration time and whether the offer depends on financing, a trade-in, a rebate or any other qualification.
A practical script is: Please send your best written out-the-door price for stock number ___, with no optional add-ons, showing the vehicle selling price, destination, dealer fees, taxes, title and registration separately. Please state whether the price requires Honda financing, a trade-in, a rebate or any other qualification, and how long the quote is valid.
This is a buyer’s template, not a quotation from Honda or the Federal Trade Commission.
When a dealer replies, transfer each line into a comparison sheet. Keep the dealer’s wording and note whether a number is a charge, a credit or a condition. A quote that advertises a low vehicle price but adds a mandatory package later is not equivalent to a clean quote from another dealer.

Turn the quotes into a negotiation target
There is no verified national percentage that every buyer should expect below MSRP for a 2026 Accord. Honda’s official release supplies suggested prices and expressly says dealer prices may vary; it does not establish a national transaction-price average. Use the best clean, comparable written quote as your evidence instead.

Suppose three dealers quote the same Accord SE with the same color and equipment. One has a lower vehicle price but a $1,500 accessory package; another has a higher vehicle price and no accessories; the third provides a complete OTD total. Convert all three to the same categories before deciding which is lowest. If one quote omits a line, ask the dealer to fill it in rather than assuming it is zero.
Once you have a valid low quote, invite another dealer to beat it by a specific amount or to match it with fewer conditions. Keep the conversation focused on the total for the identified vehicle. You do not need to disclose your maximum budget or the monthly payment you hope to achieve.
Negotiate the vehicle price and add-ons explicitly
Ask whether every accessory, protection product and service contract is optional. Request the price and description of each product in writing. If an accessory is already installed and the dealer says it cannot be removed, ask for a revised vehicle selling price that accounts for its value rather than accepting an unexplained increase.
A transparent advertised price is important because consumers need to compare offers. In a March 11, 2026 warning letter to Serra Honda, the FTC Bureau of Consumer Protection wrote: “When consumers do not know the true price of a car—or any product—consumers and others suffer related consequences, including that consumers cannot comparison-shop and make informed decisions, sellers trying to deal honestly with consumers are put at a competitive disadvantage, and the market cannot operate efficiently.” The letter is directed to that dealer; it is not a finding that every dealership uses misleading prices. Use plain questions when a fee appears:
- “What service or product does this charge represent?”
- “Is it required by law, required by Honda, or optional from the dealership?”
- “Can you remove it from this VIN?”
- “If it is already installed, what lower selling price will you offer to offset it?”
- “Will this amount appear in the written OTD quote and the purchase contract?”
Do not confuse a discount on an optional product with a lower vehicle price. Track both separately so a dealer cannot give back a vehicle discount by adding a high-priced product later.
Keep financing, trade-in and incentives separate
Agree on the vehicle price before discussing how you will pay. Then evaluate the financing offer on its own terms: annual percentage rate (APR), loan term, amount financed, total finance charge, required down payment and total of payments. A lower monthly payment can simply mean a longer term and more interest.
Ask whether the quoted price requires dealer-arranged financing. If so, request the cash price and the finance price in writing. The available source information does not establish current Honda APRs, rebates or other incentives, so verify any program directly with the dealer and confirm that you qualify. A rebate that appears in an advertisement may depend on residency, membership, recent graduation, military status, financing or another condition.
Handle a trade-in as a separate transaction. Obtain outside purchase or appraisal estimates before allowing the dealer to combine the trade value with the new-car price. Compare the trade allowance, any payoff amount and the resulting tax treatment according to your state’s rules. Do not let a high trade allowance conceal a higher price for the Accord.

Once the vehicle price and trade value are fixed, check that the loan contract uses the same selling price, fees, down payment and trade figures as the written quote. If any condition changes, pause and recalculate the total rather than negotiating only the payment.
Compare an Accord with an Accord Hybrid on the right axes
Honda publishes separate gasoline and hybrid starting prices, but a starting price alone does not establish which is the better value for you. Compare an actual gasoline vehicle and an actual hybrid with equivalent equipment and the same purchase assumptions.

The hybrid’s higher or lower OTD amount should be evaluated against your driving needs, expected ownership period and financing cost—not against an advertised monthly payment. Keep the two configurations in separate rows in your worksheet so a trim or equipment difference does not look like a negotiation win.

Review the final paperwork before signing
Bring the dealer’s written quote, your comparison sheet and identification of the vehicle you agreed to buy. At the finance office, compare every line with the quote you accepted. Verify the VIN, model year, trim, color, odometer disclosure, selling price, destination, accessories, fees, taxes, title, registration, trade figures and financing terms.
Ask about any new product or amount before signing. Common additions include service contracts, guaranteed asset protection, payment protection, appearance products and document fees that were not in the earlier quote. You may decline optional products; do not sign a form you do not understand. If a number changed because a condition was not met, ask for the qualifying condition and the alternate cash price.
Check the arithmetic: vehicle price plus destination, accessories and dealer fees, minus discounts and trade credits, plus taxes and government charges, should reconcile to the stated OTD amount before financing. The amount financed and total of payments are different figures and should also be shown clearly.

A monthly-payment conversation starts first
Say that you are comparing purchase prices and OTD totals before discussing a payment. Ask for the APR, term and total finance charge only after the vehicle price is settled.

Request the exact description and whether it is optional, manufacturer-required or already installed. Compare a revised selling price with the package included against a quote without it.

The quote is missing taxes or registration
Ask the dealer to calculate the charges for the address where the vehicle will be titled. If the dealer cannot provide a final government amount, label it as an estimate and obtain the missing components before comparing totals.
The dealer changes the price when you arrive
Show the written quote and ask which condition was not met. If the new amount is not acceptable, leave and continue with another dealer. A quote that depends on financing, a trade or a rebate should have stated that condition in advance.
A low vehicle price hides expensive products
Rebuild the comparison using the full OTD total and list every accessory and protection product. Negotiate or decline each optional item rather than judging the headline vehicle price.
The dealer says the car is no longer available
Ask for the VIN or stock status and request the same pricing structure on an equivalent vehicle. Do not accept a substitute trim or color without updating the comparison and confirming every line.
How to answer “What’s a good OTD price for a new 2026 Accord SE?”
That question, which also appears in a shopper discussion, cannot be answered responsibly with one national number. The right OTD amount depends on the exact vehicle, selling price, destination treatment, dealer fees, accessories, tax jurisdiction, title and registration, and any financing or incentive condition.
For a 2026 Accord SE, begin with Honda’s $30,695 MSRP and $31,990 destination-inclusive suggested price. Then obtain several itemized quotes for the same SE configuration in your taxing location. A quote is “good” when its components are clear, its conditions are acceptable, and its complete total compares favorably with other current quotes for the same car. An anecdotal post does not establish a market norm.
A repeatable checklist
- Select the 2026 Accord or Accord Hybrid, exact trim, color, factory equipment and preferred VIN or stock number.
- Check Honda’s current suggested prices and the $1,295 destination charge in the September 9, 2026 release.
- Contact several dealers with identical specifications and request written OTD quotes.
- Require separate lines for vehicle price, destination, dealer-installed accessories, dealer fees, taxes, title and registration.

- Normalize the quotes so every dealer is pricing the same vehicle and the same optional products.

- Negotiate optional products individually and obtain any revised vehicle price in writing.
- Finalize the vehicle price before evaluating APR, loan term, trade value and total finance charge.
- At signing, reconcile the VIN and every contract line with the accepted quote; stop when an unexplained amount appears.
