The practical answer: ride smoothly in the most efficient mode that fits traffic, hold a steady speed, maintain the exact tyre pressure in your manual, reduce unnecessary weight, and plan charging before the battery is low. On the Ather Konarc, use the displayed TrueRange—not the larger IDC headline—as your planning baseline. For the Atumobile Atum Version 1.0, model-specific range, battery, charging and tyre-pressure figures should be taken from the current owner manual; those figures are not established here.

IDC range, TrueRange and the distance you can actually plan

Electric-scooter range figures answer different questions. The Indian Driving Cycle (IDC) number is a standardized test result. Ather’s TrueRange figure is its practical estimate for the same scooter under defined conditions. Traffic, speed, throttle use, hills, payload, tyre pressure, temperature and battery condition can move your result above or below either figure.

For trip planning, treat TrueRange as a starting estimate rather than a guarantee. Leave a reserve for an unexpected detour, a steep climb, a heavy passenger or a charging stop that is occupied. A route that is technically within the displayed distance may still be inconvenient if it ends with an almost empty battery.

What changes your real-world range most

Throttle and speed

Acceleration consumes more energy than maintaining a settled speed. Repeatedly launching from a stop, reaching a high speed and braking hard throws away energy as heat. Ather’s range guidance recommends gentle throttle inputs and maintaining a constant speed wherever possible.

  • Roll on the throttle progressively instead of using full output for every gap in traffic.
  • Look ahead and lift off early when a signal, turn or queue is obvious.
  • Use the scooter’s momentum rather than accelerating into a brake event.
  • Choose a speed that traffic can sustain; large speed changes are usually less efficient than a steady pace.

This does not mean riding unsafely or obstructing traffic. The efficient technique is to be predictable, leave a sensible following distance and avoid unnecessary bursts, not to crawl in a fast lane.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Traffic and route shape

Stop-and-go traffic is demanding because every restart requires acceleration. A flat route with a consistent flow can use less energy than a shorter route filled with junctions and hard launches. If two routes are practical, compare their hills, signals and average speed rather than distance alone.

Hills, wind and payload

Raising the combined mass of the scooter, rider, passenger and luggage up a steep incline requires additional energy. A pillion, cargo, repeated climbs and strong headwinds therefore reduce the distance available from one charge. Remove items that are not needed, and include the return climb when deciding whether a destination is within range.

Tyre pressure

Under-inflated tyres increase rolling resistance and can make the scooter feel heavy. Ather’s general owner guidance gives a typical reference of 30 PSI front and 32 PSI rear and connects correct inflation with achieving the displayed TrueRange. Verify the pressure for your exact Konarc variant and tyre before adjusting it; measure when the tyres are cold, use a reliable gauge and check regularly.

Atum Version 1.0 owners should use the pressure printed in that scooter’s manual or on-vehicle label. Do not copy the Konarc figures to an Atum.

Battery state of health

A battery with reduced state of health stores less usable energy than when new, so the same riding pattern produces fewer kilometres. Age, usage, storage habits and operating conditions all matter. A lower-than-usual estimate is not automatically a fault: first compare the route, load, weather, tyre pressure and riding mode with your normal baseline.

Which Konarc mode gives the best mileage?

SmartEco for dense city traffic

Ather describes SmartEco as “your best friend for maximizing range and navigating heavy, stop-and-go city traffic smoothly.” It is the first mode to try when distance is the priority in urban traffic because it moderates energy use while preserving useful response.

Eco or the equivalent low-output setting

Use Eco when it is available on your scooter and suits the traffic. It is appropriate for relaxed cruising and routes where immediate peak acceleration is not needed. The exact mode names and behavior shown on your scooter take precedence over a generic description.

Ride or Sport as a compromise

Ather positions Ride/Sport-style modes as a balance between efficiency and response. They can be useful on mixed routes where SmartEco feels too restrained but maximum output is unnecessary.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Power, Warp and Warp+ when performance is the priority

Power and Warp-style settings deliver stronger acceleration at the cost of energy consumption. Reserve them for a safe overtake, a demanding hill or a situation that genuinely needs the extra output. Selecting a high-output mode and then riding gently may still use more energy than an efficiency mode, so return to SmartEco or Eco when the demand has passed.

A practical Konarc range routine

  1. Start with a full, settled charge. Charge at home and allow the scooter’s estimate to stabilize before judging a long trip. Note the displayed TrueRange and odometer reading.
  2. Set the tyres. Check cold pressures against the Konarc’s recommended values. Inspect for visible damage or a slow leak.
  3. Remove avoidable load. Take out heavy items and account for a passenger in the plan.
  4. Select SmartEco or Eco. Use the most efficient setting that remains safe and comfortable in the traffic you face.
  5. Plan a steady route. Prefer a route with fewer severe climbs and fewer repeated stop-start sections when the time difference is acceptable.
  6. Ride progressively. Accelerate smoothly, hold a consistent speed and anticipate braking.
  7. Recheck the estimate during the trip. If the projected distance is falling faster than the kilometres travelled, slow the pace where safe, reduce detours and identify a charging option before the battery becomes critical.

Charging strategy: everyday use versus a fast top-up

Routine home charging

Ather publishes 0–80% home-charging times of 4 hours for the 2.1 kWh Konarc S 100, 4.5 hours for the 2.7 kWh S 125 and 5 hours 40 minutes for the 3.5 kWh S 161. These are model specifications, not a promise that every electrical installation or temperature will reproduce the exact time.

For normal ownership, Ather recommends relying on slower charging at home. It is convenient for overnight or between-trip charging and avoids making every short stop depend on a public charger.

Combined charging on the S 161

The S 161 specification lists combined charging to 80% in 3 hours 10 minutes. Ather explains that combined charging adds a 450 W charger; the onboard charger itself cannot be upgraded. Check that the equipment and installation supplied for your scooter support this arrangement before assuming the shorter time applies.

Ather Grid for route recovery

The published Grid figures are “up to” values: up to 13 km in 10 minutes for the S 100 and up to 15 km in 10 minutes for the S 125 and S 161. Actual kilometres added depend on the starting state of charge, battery temperature, charger conditions and the scooter’s charging curve. Treat Grid as a strategic top-up for a route, not as a replacement for routine home charging.

Protecting the battery during storage

Do not leave the scooter at 0% for a long period. If it will sit for weeks or months, enable Shutdown as directed by Ather’s guidance and follow the current owner instructions for storage and periodic checks. For ordinary daily use, recharge before the battery is exhausted rather than deliberately running it to empty.

How to read the Konarc dashboard estimate

TrueRange is dynamic: it recalculates the remaining distance from your riding style and the selected mode. A change after a hill, a high-speed section or a mode switch is therefore expected. The number is not a fixed conversion of battery percentage into kilometres.

Ather’s community documentation distinguishes two ideas:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Predicted range reflects historical riding behaviour.
  • Projected range estimates the distance from a full charge if the current riding pattern continued.

Use the estimate as a trend. Compare kilometres travelled with kilometres removed from the estimate over several trips, rather than judging accuracy from one acceleration run. If your route becomes flatter, slower or lighter, the projected figure can improve; if conditions become harsher, it can fall.

Atumobile Atum Version 1.0: what is confirmed and what is not

A model-specific Atum Version 1.0 range recommendation requires a readable, current official manual or specification sheet. The official Atumobile technical-specification page did not provide readable specifications in the available material, so no defensible battery capacity, IDC range, practical range, charging time, tyre pressure or riding-mode figure is quoted here. No independently measured real-world range figure is established either.

That evidence boundary matters. Do not substitute a number from a different Atum model, an old brochure, a dealer listing or a social-media test. Before planning a long ride, obtain the current owner documentation and record:

  • battery capacity and usable-capacity guidance;
  • any claimed test-cycle range and the conditions behind it;
  • normal charging time and approved charging equipment;
  • recommended cold tyre pressures;
  • available riding modes and any range display explanation;
  • storage, minimum-charge and shutdown instructions.

Until those values are verified, apply only the general operating principles: accelerate smoothly, hold a steady legal speed, keep tyres at the manufacturer’s stated pressure, minimize unnecessary load, anticipate hills and do not store the scooter with an empty battery for an extended period. These practices are sensible for an electric scooter, but they are not Atum-specific test results.

Konarc and Atum Version 1.0: a useful comparison framework

Question Ather Konarc Atum Version 1.0
Is a practical range figure established? Yes: Ather publishes TrueRange of 80, 100 and 130 km for the S 100, S 125 and S 161 respectively. Not established from a readable official specification or independent measurement here.
Are test-cycle figures available? Yes: 100, 125 and 161 km IDC figures in Ather’s table. Not stated.
Battery capacities 2.1, 2.7 and 3.5 kWh for the listed S variants. Not stated.
Normal charging information 4 hours, 4.5 hours and 5 hours 40 minutes to 80% at home, by variant. Not stated.
Fast or combined charging Grid adds up to 13–15 km in 10 minutes; S 161 combined charging is listed at 3 hours 10 minutes to 80%. Not stated.
Range-focused controls SmartEco and Eco are the efficiency-oriented choices; Power/Warp-style modes prioritize output. Not stated; use the current manual.
Tyre-pressure reference Ather’s general guidance typically cites 30 PSI front and 32 PSI rear; verify the scooter label or manual. Use the Atum-specific label or manual.

Troubleshooting a range estimate that looks too low

Check the easy variables first

  • Measure cold tyre pressure with a known-good gauge.
  • Confirm that a high-output mode was not left selected.
  • Compare the current payload with a normal solo ride.
  • Review whether the route included stronger headwinds, hills or more stops.
  • Look for a tyre leak, brake drag or another mechanical issue that makes the scooter resist rolling.

Separate a one-off trip from a trend

One unusual trip can distort a dynamic estimate. Record several comparable rides: starting charge, mode, passenger or cargo, route type, weather, kilometres travelled and remaining percentage or displayed range. A consistent decline under similar conditions is more useful evidence than a single low number.

Escalate persistent changes

If the scooter repeatedly loses range under comparable conditions after pressure, load, route and mode are controlled, consult the manufacturer’s service channel. Provide the ride records and any dashboard warnings. Do not attempt to open or modify the high-voltage battery; the Konarc onboard charger, for example, is not an owner-upgrade component.

Planning a trip with a sensible reserve

Use the displayed practical estimate, then subtract a reserve appropriate to the route’s uncertainty. A flat, familiar commute with home charging at both ends needs less contingency than an unfamiliar route with a passenger, steep climbs and limited charging. Identify where you can turn around or recharge before starting, and treat public-charger availability as a possibility rather than a certainty.

For the Konarc, the most conservative quick reference is the published TrueRange for your exact variant: 80 km for S 100, 100 km for S 125 or 130 km for S 161. Those are not guarantees and should not be combined with the IDC number to create a larger personal allowance. For the Atum Version 1.0, wait for the exact manufacturer figure before making a numerical route plan.
