Use Z-Mode only when it helps your particular car
Z-Mode is available only on cars equipped for it. It can be customized, but its purpose is more performance-oriented, so do not assume that selecting Z-Mode automatically improves ride comfort. If you use it for a saved configuration, make the suspension selection the priority and verify that the resulting behavior is acceptable on your normal roads.
How to change the suspension setting
The exact infotainment path is model-year dependent. Chevrolet’s 2026 Corvette manual describes the following route:
- Turn on the vehicle and open the infotainment system.
- Select Settings.
- Open Vehicle.
- Choose Drive Mode Customization.

In the Drive Mode Customization section, Chevrolet explains that “The ride is more comfortable at lower settings and is stiffer at higher settings for better control.” In this context, the setting changes the suspension’s behavior; it is not a recommendation to physically lower the car’s ride height. Use the lowest setting that remains comfortable and predictable for your roads, and raise it when you need the extra control of a firmer response.

Check whether your Corvette has Magnetic Ride Control
Magnetic Ride Control is equipment-dependent, not a feature you should assume every C8 has. Chevrolet’s 2021 Corvette owner manual says that, when equipped, the system adjusts shock-damping firmness according to driving conditions to improve comfort and performance.
How to identify the relevant equipment
- Look for Magnetic Ride Control references in your vehicle’s original equipment list or owner documentation.
- Check whether the suspension customization screen offers the related adjustment.
- If the feature is not listed, do not expect a setting change to create it.
When the system is fitted, use the available lower suspension setting for routine driving and compare it with the firmer option on one known stretch of road. When it is not fitted, focus on Tour, My Mode, seating position, and road-use habits instead of trying to reproduce the behavior of a differently equipped car.
Separate ride harshness from seat discomfort
“Uncomfortable” can describe two different problems. A sharp impact through the car points toward suspension mode and road surface; pressure at your hips, lower back, or legs points toward seating position or seat shape. Diagnose those separately so you do not chase the wrong fix.
A simple test drive
- Drive the same short route in Tour with the softest available suspension setting.
- Repeat it in your usual mode without changing your seating position.
- Note whether the discomfort arrives exactly when the car crosses bumps or whether it builds while you remain on a smooth road.
- Adjust only one variable at a time and repeat the route.
This does not produce a laboratory comfort rating; it simply prevents several changes from masking each other. A ride-mode change cannot correct a seat that does not fit your body, and a cushion cannot make a stiff suspension calibration softer.

Optimize your seating position before buying anything
Seat comfort is individual, and the available evidence does not establish a universally comfortable C8 seat, trim, or cushion. Before adding an accessory, spend time setting the seat and steering wheel so your body is supported without reaching or twisting.
Use a repeatable seating routine
- Set the seat height and fore-aft position so you can fully operate the pedals without stretching.

Consider a low-profile seat cushion cautiously
One C8 owner discussion describes buying seat cushions because of discomfort. That is a personal anecdote, not evidence that a particular cushion works for other drivers, and no specific model has been validated for C8 fit.

If you test one, keep the risk small
- Choose a low-profile design that does not slide or tilt the pelvis unexpectedly.
- Confirm that it does not obstruct seat controls, belt routing, or the seat’s normal movement.
- Check that your head position, mirror view, and distance from the steering wheel remain appropriate after installation.
- Test it first on a short, low-risk drive; remove it if it changes pedal reach or makes you less stable.
A cushion is an individual experiment, not a general recommendation. If the problem is concentrated at one pressure point, try the smallest change that addresses that point rather than stacking thick padding on the seat.

Build a daily-driving routine
Once you find a tolerable configuration, make it repeatable. Save the comfort-oriented mode if the car allows it, and select it before leaving rather than changing settings while moving. Keep a separate, clearly named configuration for situations where you deliberately want a firmer response.
Before a commute
- Select Tour or your saved comfort mode while parked.
- Confirm that the suspension setting did not revert after a restart or service visit.
- Set the seat and steering wheel before engaging traffic.

- Take a longer test drive in the planned configuration before departure.

The ride still feels harsh in Tour
Confirm that the car actually switched to Tour and that a customizable mode did not retain a higher suspension setting. Reopen the Drive Mode Customization screen and verify the stored value. A new cushion makes the car harder to control
Remove it immediately if it changes your pedal reach, steering-wheel distance, belt position, visibility, or ability to sit securely. A cushion that feels softer in a stationary test is not an improvement if it compromises safe control.
You cannot tell whether the problem is the suspension or the seat
Repeat the same road in two modes while keeping the seat unchanged, then repeat one mode after a small seat adjustment. If the symptom follows the road impacts, concentrate on suspension settings; if it follows your body position on smooth pavement, concentrate on fit. This isolates the variable without claiming a clinical diagnosis.
What the evidence does—and does not—support
There is solid manufacturer guidance for starting in Tour, selecting a lower suspension setting for greater comfort, and using My Mode or Z-Mode where the vehicle supports those features. There is also manufacturer documentation that Magnetic Ride Control adjusts damping when equipped.
