You can install Google Play apps in an XPENG only when that specific vehicle has the Google Play Store built in. On the car’s display, open the app menu and look for Google Play Store. If it is present, sign in to the required Google account, search for the app and follow the on-screen download instructions. If Play Store is absent, use the XPENG XOS App Store instead; it is a separate catalog and does not provide every Google Play app.
Menus and catalogs vary by XPENG model, model year, software version, steering configuration and market. Confirm the procedure in the manual for your vehicle before assuming that another XPENG’s screen or app list will match yours.

First, identify which app store your XPENG has
XPENG cars do not all expose the same software catalog. The important first question is not whether an app exists on Google Play generally, but whether your car includes Google Play Store as a built-in application.

Google states that its instructions apply only to cars with Play Store built in. Availability can differ by manufacturer, language, region and data plan. Therefore, a Google account or a phone with the Google Play mobile app cannot by itself add Play Store to an XPENG that was not supplied with it.

Check the correct XPENG manual before changing anything
XPENG publishes separate manuals for the G6, G9, P7, P7+, X9, L03 and G9L, with differences by year, language and market. Open the XPENG user-manual portal and select the document that matches all of the following:
- Your exact model and model year.
- Left-hand-drive or right-hand-drive configuration.
- The country or market where the car was sold.
- The current XOS or infotainment software version, where the manual identifies one.
A manual for a similarly named model is not a reliable substitute. Store availability, icon names and customization controls can change with regional software and updates.
What you need before installing an app
Have these prerequisites ready:
- A built-in Play Store: The Google procedure cannot be used unless the icon is available in the vehicle.
- A Google account: Google requires you to be signed in to download car apps.
- A working vehicle data connection: Google identifies the data plan as one factor that can affect app availability. The car must also be able to reach the store to search and download.
- The exact app name: Search results are filtered for the vehicle, not just for the wider Android ecosystem.
- The matching XPENG documentation: Use it to resolve model-specific App Center behavior and regional differences.
The store may show fewer apps than you expect even when the car is online and your account works. That is normally a compatibility or availability decision made for the vehicle, not evidence that the search function is broken.
Install an app from Google Play Store in the XPENG
Use the following sequence when Google Play Store is visible on the car screen. The menu wording below follows Google’s published car procedure; XPENG may place the menu icon differently in a particular software version.

- Open the car’s app menu. On the vehicle screen, tap Menu.
- Open Play Store. Tap Play Store. If this entry is missing, stop and use the XPENG App Store workflow instead; do not assume that a hidden shortcut or USB file will provide the same service.
- Sign in. Use the Google account requested by the car. Google says users must be signed in to download apps for the car.
- Start a search. Tap Search and enter the app’s name using the on-screen keyboard.
- Check the result. Select the app only if it appears in the car’s results. The result is being offered for that vehicle’s configuration, language and region.
- Download and install. Tap the app and follow the instructions shown on the display. Keep the car connected while the download and installation proceed.
- Open the installed app. Return to the car’s app area and tap the new icon. If the interface displays an installation or download status, wait for it to complete before trying to launch the app.
Google’s documented procedure is available at Google Play Help. The page is the appropriate reference if the wording on your screen differs from the labels above.
What it means when an app does not appear
If an app is absent from the car’s Play Store search results, Google says it is probably not available in your car. The result is not a complete list of every app that exists for Android phones or tablets.
Four variables commonly explain the difference:
- Vehicle and manufacturer compatibility: The developer or Google may not offer the app for that vehicle platform.
- Language: The app may be restricted to particular supported languages.
- Region: Catalogs can differ by the country associated with the car or account.
- Data plan: Google identifies the vehicle’s data plan as another availability factor.
Try the following checks in order:
- Confirm that you searched from the car’s own Play Store, not from a phone.
- Check the spelling and search for the app’s official name rather than a nickname.
- Verify that the car is online and that your Google account sign-in completed.
- Check the XPENG manual for your market and model year in case the vehicle uses only the native App Store.
- If the app remains absent, treat it as unavailable for that vehicle unless XPENG support confirms a catalog or software change.
Do not promise that changing the phone’s region, installing a different account or repeatedly rebooting will make an unsupported app appear. The official Google guidance describes the app as probably unavailable when it does not appear; it does not provide a universal bypass.

XPENG’s XOS App Center is distinct from Google Play. The indexed 2025 G6 manual shows an XOS App Center containing icons such as App Store, User Manual and Browser. If your G6 or another XPENG presents that interface without Google Play Store, open App Store and use the catalog supplied for your vehicle.

The native catalog may contain different applications from Google Play. An app’s availability in the XPENG App Store should not be taken as evidence that the same app is available through Google Play, or vice versa.
Open an app and monitor installation status
The indexed 2025 G9 manual says that tapping an app icon opens it and that downloading or installing an app displays a corresponding status. On a G9 with that interface, use the icon in the App Center, then wait for the status to indicate that the operation has finished. Exact labels and placement can vary with software version.
Reorder the XOS App Center
The same G9 manual excerpt describes a customization mode: long-press an app icon or an empty area of the app center, then drag icons to sort the app list. This changes the arrangement of icons; it does not turn the XPENG App Store into Google Play or add apps that the catalog does not offer.

In the 2025 G6 manual excerpt, the App Center is presented as a group of XOS icons, including App Store, User Manual and Browser. If your screen matches this layout, select App Store for supported downloads and use User Manual to open the vehicle’s own instructions. A different G6 year, language or market may show different icons.

Troubleshoot the most common problems
There is no Play Store icon
First confirm that you are looking at the full App Center rather than a shortcut page. Then check the manual for the exact model, year and market. If the documentation describes only the XOS App Store, use that catalog. If the car was expected to include Google services but the icon is still missing, ask XPENG customer or dealer support to verify the vehicle’s software and regional configuration.
Play Store opens but will not download
Confirm that the Google account sign-in has completed and that the car has an active data connection. A data-plan restriction can affect availability. If the app is visible but installation does not progress, record the app name, the message shown on screen and the vehicle’s software version before contacting support. Avoid deleting account data or changing hidden settings unless XPENG’s instructions specifically direct you.
The app is not in search results
Use the missing-app checks above. Google’s published position is that an app that does not appear is probably unavailable for the car. Ask support to confirm compatibility rather than attempting an undocumented installation method.

On an XOS interface matching the 2025 G9 manual, long-press an app icon or blank space to enter customization mode and drag icons into a preferred order. If your software does not enter that mode, follow the controls in your own manual; the feature is not guaranteed across every XPENG version.

The App Center looks different from an online guide
Stop using the guide as if it were universal. XPENG’s portal separates manuals by model and year, and regional or software differences can change menu names and catalogs. Select your matching manual and use its labels as the authority for your car.
Undocumented installation methods to avoid assuming
The official Google and XPENG materials described here do not document USB APK sideloading, developer-mode installation or a universal Android Auto adapter as standard ways to add apps to an XPENG. Do not present any of those as guaranteed workarounds for a missing Play Store or an unavailable app.
Installing an app file from an unverified source can also create account, privacy, compatibility and vehicle-support problems. If an app is absent from both the built-in Play Store and the XPENG App Store, the defensible next step is to verify regional availability with XPENG rather than promise a workaround.

When to contact XPENG support or a dealer
Escalate the question when any of these conditions applies:
- You cannot determine whether the vehicle was supplied with Google Play Store.
- The manual for your model and market conflicts with what the screen displays.
- Play Store is expected for the vehicle but the icon is absent after confirming the correct user profile and menu.
- An app appears compatible in documentation but never appears in the car’s search results.
- A download remains stuck and the screen provides an error that the manual does not explain.
Give support the vehicle model, model year, steering configuration, sales market, XOS or infotainment version, the store you can see and the exact app name. That information lets XPENG distinguish a regional catalog limitation from a software problem.
A repeatable checklist for owners
- Open the car’s App Center or Menu.
- Look specifically for Google Play Store.
- If it is present, sign in to Google, choose Search, select the displayed app and follow the download prompts.
- If it is absent, open XPENG’s App Store instead.
- For an app missing from Play Store, check compatibility, language, region and data-plan factors before contacting support.
- Use the manual matching your model year and market for icon organization and other XOS controls.
- Do not treat APK sideloading, USB installation or an Android Auto adapter as an officially documented universal solution.
The decisive fact is whether your individual XPENG includes Google Play Store. Built-in Play Store enables Google’s sign-in-and-search workflow; an XOS App Center with XPENG App Store requires you to use XPENG’s catalog and model-specific controls.
