For most travelers, driving is the best overall way to get from Phoenix to Sedona. From Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), the trip is approximately 119 miles and takes about two hours in normal conditions, without major traffic, stops, weather delays or construction. The usual route is I-17 north to Exit 298, followed by State Route 179 into the Village of Oak Creek and Sedona.
- Best for flexibility, trailheads and day trips: rental car or personal car.
- Best scheduled option without driving from PHX: Groome Transportation.
- Lowest current published scheduled fare: Greyhound/FlixBus, from about $22.48, but with one daily departure and a roadside Sedona stop.
- Best for door-to-door convenience or groups: a pre-booked private car or SUV.
Schedules, fares and road conditions change. Before leaving, check AZ511 and the operator’s booking page for your exact date. The prices and road updates in this guide were checked against information available on August 9, 2026.
How to Get from Phoenix to Sedona
The right transportation choice depends on more than the Phoenix-to-Sedona distance. Sedona’s hotels, trailheads and attractions are spread across Uptown Sedona, West Sedona, the Village of Oak Creek and the wider Verde Valley. A shuttle that gets you from PHX to a hotel may not get you to your first hike, and an inexpensive bus ticket may leave you several miles from your accommodation.
Use your exact starting point and exact Sedona destination when comparing options. Phoenix Sky Harbor, downtown Phoenix, Tempe, Scottsdale and other Valley suburbs are different origins, while Uptown, West Sedona, Village of Oak Creek and Cottonwood are different arrival areas.

Quick comparison: Phoenix to Sedona transportation
| Option | Approximate time | Published starting cost | Pickup and drop-off | Best for | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rental or personal car | About 2 hours from PHX in normal conditions | Varies; add fuel, parking, insurance and rental fees | Door to door | Trailheads, viewpoints, day trips and flexibility | Rental cost, parking and traffic in Sedona |
| Groome Transportation | Varies by departure, stops and destination | Currently displayed from $69 online-discount fare to Sedona/Cottonwood; fares vary | PHX terminals 3 or 4 to listed stops and some reserved hotel locations | Solo travelers and couples avoiding a rental car | Fixed departures, shared ride and limited hotel coverage |
| Greyhound/FlixBus | From 2 hours 40 minutes | Currently displayed from about $22.48 | Phoenix-area station or 44th Street PHX Sky Train Station to Sedona ARCO | Budget travelers who can arrange the last mile | One daily departure and no terminal-to-hotel service |
| Private car or SUV | Roughly road time plus pickup arrangements | Quote required; varies by vehicle, party and timing | Door to door | Families, groups, accessibility needs and late arrivals | Much more expensive than shared transportation |
| Uber, Lyft or taxi | Variable | Dynamic or quoted | PHX pickup may be available; Sedona availability varies | Backup or local trips | An on-demand driver may not accept or be available for the return |
Driving is the default recommendation because attractions are dispersed. It is not automatically the cheapest choice: for one traveler staying near a Groome stop, a shuttle can cost less than a rental car after fuel, parking and insurance. For three or more people, compare the complete cost of every option rather than only the advertised ticket price.
Where exactly are you going?
Phoenix can mean several departure points:
- PHX: the normal starting point for visitors flying into Arizona.
- Downtown Phoenix: close to the airport, but not the same pickup location.
- Phoenix-Tempe bus stops: relevant for the Greyhound/FlixBus route.
- Scottsdale, Mesa or another Valley suburb: may require a separate trip to an airport or bus station, and can add time.
Likewise, entering only Sedona in a booking form can hide an important last-mile problem. Groome lists stops in Camp Verde, Village of Oak Creek, West Sedona and Cottonwood, along with additional hotel or reservation stops. Greyhound/FlixBus currently lists a roadside ARCO stop in Sedona rather than universal hotel drop-off. Confirm the location against your hotel before paying.
Driving from Phoenix to Sedona
The standard PHX route
- Take I-17 north toward Flagstaff.
- Continue to Exit 298.
- Turn onto State Route 179 toward Sedona.
- Follow SR 179 through the Village of Oak Creek and onward to your destination.
- Use current navigation for the final approach to your hotel, trailhead or attraction.
The normal PHX-to-Sedona-area drive is approximately 119 miles and about two hours, according to Sedona visitor information. That is a planning estimate, not a guaranteed arrival time. Phoenix traffic, weekend congestion, roadwork, winter weather, wildfire activity, stops and the distinction between Village of Oak Creek and West Sedona can all change the total.
SR 179 is more than just the final connector. It is the Red Rock All-American Road, with access to or views of Bell Rock, Courthouse Butte, Cathedral Rock and the Chapel of the Holy Cross. If you are driving, the approach itself can be part of the trip, but do not stop in unsafe areas or assume that a popular viewpoint will have available parking.

- Village of Oak Creek: SR 179 is the direct approach from I-17. This area is south of the more central Sedona neighborhoods.
- Uptown Sedona: continue on SR 179 to the junction commonly called the Y, then follow local directions toward Uptown.
- West Sedona: SR 89A generally becomes the relevant final approach.
- Cottonwood or western Verde Valley destinations: a route through Camp Verde and Cottonwood may be more practical than continuing directly through central Sedona.
Alternate route through Camp Verde and Cottonwood
A commonly used alternative is to take I-17 north to Exit 287 near Camp Verde, continue west on AZ-260 toward Cottonwood, and then take AZ-89A north toward Sedona. It is approximately 127 miles and is generally a little longer than the SR 179 route, but can be useful for western Sedona, Cottonwood, winery visits or an incident affecting SR 179. Treat the mileage and time as route-planner estimates; check conditions before committing to the detour. See Sedona’s directions information for route context.
Scenic route through Oak Creek Canyon
SR 89A through Oak Creek Canyon is a scenic alternative between Flagstaff and Sedona, but it is not normally the fastest route from Phoenix. It makes the most sense as a detour for travelers already visiting Flagstaff or as a possible return route when conditions are favorable.
The canyon route has curves, elevation changes and exposure to winter weather, wildfire response and construction restrictions. Do not select it solely because a map labels it scenic. Check AZ511 immediately before traveling.

According to the latest ADOT update, SR 89A between Sedona and Flagstaff reopened on July 13, 2026 after the Pocket Fire. ADOT warned that fire-response activity could still produce intermittent closures. Monday through Thursday, traffic may be reduced to one direction at a time between Pine Flat Campground and Oak Creek Vista, and a 12-foot vehicle-width restriction applies in the work zone. Both directions were scheduled to be open Friday through Sunday, subject to current conditions.
SR 179 pavement preservation
ADOT reported overnight work on SR 179 between the Red Rock Ranger Station and Chapel Road, approximately mileposts 304 to 311. The work is scheduled Sunday evening through Friday morning, typically from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., with alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers and a pilot car. A 12-foot width restriction applies. Completion was anticipated in fall 2026, but verify the current status instead of relying on that projection.
I-17 and SR 179 interchange
The current ADOT project page says southbound I-17 at the SR 179 interchange is restricted to one lane around the clock during bridge rehabilitation near milepost 299. This is particularly important on the return from Sedona to Phoenix. ADOT’s project information has contained differing completion projections, including an earlier late-summer reference and a current winter 2026 projection, so do not plan around a promised end date.
Groome Transportation: the easiest scheduled option from PHX without a car
Groome Transportation operates scheduled service between PHX and the Sedona area. Its displayed PHX-to-Sedona schedule currently has multiple departures, ranging from approximately 6:15 a.m. to 12:15 a.m., with displayed arrivals serving Camp Verde, Village of Oak Creek, West Sedona and Cottonwood. Departure times and stops can change, so use the booking page for the date and destination you actually need.

Current displayed Groome fares
Groome’s page currently displays the following starting fares to and from PHX:
- Sedona/Cottonwood: $69 online-discount starting fare or $74 adult starting fare.
- Children 12 and under: $55 starting fare, subject to the booking details.
- Enchantment/Mii Amo: $89 online-discount starting fare or $94 adult starting fare.
- Sedona Mago: $85 online-discount starting fare or $90 adult starting fare.
- Camp Verde: $65 online-discount starting fare or $70 adult starting fare.
- Home pickup or drop-off: an additional distance-based fee.
Groome says a temporary $2-per-passenger fuel surcharge began May 5, 2026 and that checkout totals include it. Dates, times, booking channels and destination can change the final total. These figures should be treated as examples of the current displayed starting prices, not guaranteed fares.
Where to meet Groome at PHX
Do not go to Terminal 2 for a Groome pickup; Groome’s current instructions say Terminal 2 pickup is closed. Follow these steps:
- Terminal 3: go to baggage claim, exit through Door 9 approximately 10 minutes before departure, cross to the center island and wait at the blue INTER-CITY SHUTTLE sign.
- Terminal 4: go to baggage claim, exit through Door 5 approximately 10 minutes before departure, cross to the center island and wait at the blue INTER-CITY SHUTTLE sign.
- The shuttle departs Terminal 3 at the scheduled time before proceeding to Terminal 4, so be at the correct terminal and curbside location early.
- Groome requires passengers to check in at least 15 minutes before departure and recommends booking at least 24 hours ahead. Unreserved service is not guaranteed.
Read Groome’s PHX pickup instructions and FAQ after booking, especially if your airline, terminal or arrival time changes.
Groome limitations to plan around
- A hotel stop is not automatically available at every property. Confirm the exact hotel or arrange an approved local connection.
- Most locations other than the Cottonwood office require reservations.
- A reservation does not guarantee that the shuttle will wait for a delayed flight. If your flight is delayed, contact Groome immediately rather than assuming the next vehicle has room.
- Standard luggage is two suitcases of up to 50 pounds each plus one personal item.
- If a child requires a car seat or booster, the parent or guardian must provide and install it.
- Groome’s Arizona policy permits service dogs but generally does not permit pets.
- Home pickup and drop-off must be arranged in advance.
Groome is usually the strongest no-car choice for a solo traveler or couple landing at PHX, particularly when the accommodation is near a listed stop. It is not automatically cheaper than renting a car for a larger party or a trip that includes several paid rides and tours after arrival.
Greyhound and FlixBus: the current low-cost direct bus
There is currently a direct intercity bus option from the Phoenix-Tempe area to Sedona, an option that is often omitted from older travel guides. Greyhound and FlixBus list the route with:
- A minimum published trip time of approximately 2 hours 40 minutes.
- A minimum published distance of about 122 to 123 miles.
- A published starting fare of approximately $22.48.
- One daily departure on the current listing.
- A current first-and-last-departure display of approximately 8:40 a.m..
Fare, availability and schedule are date-specific. Check the operator page before booking, particularly if you have a flight connection or an early hiking plan.
Phoenix-area bus departure points
The listed Phoenix-area stops include:
- Phoenix Bus Station: 2115 E Buckeye Road.
- Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport/44th Street Station: the 44th St PHX Sky Train Station.
- Tempe: University Drive and Rural Road.
- Additional Phoenix and Glendale stops shown by the operator.
The 44th Street stop is not at the airline terminals. If you land at PHX and choose this bus, you must reach the 44th Street PHX Sky Train Station before departure. That transfer, plus baggage retrieval and the one-daily schedule, makes the bus less convenient than Groome for many arriving air passengers.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

The current listed Sedona stop is Sedona (ARCO), 1990 AZ-89A, Sedona, AZ 86336. This is not universal hotel drop-off. Arrange a hotel shuttle, taxi, rideshare, local transit connection or private pickup before you board. The bus is a reasonable choice for a budget solo traveler staying near the stop or someone with a confirmed pickup. It is a poor default for a family with substantial luggage, a traveler staying in Village of Oak Creek or anyone arriving without a last-mile plan.
Private transfers, taxis, Uber and Lyft
Pre-booked private car or SUV
A private SUV, limousine or chauffeur is the most convenient option when door-to-door service matters more than price. It can make sense for families, groups, travelers with mobility needs, people carrying substantial luggage, or passengers arriving very late or departing very early.
Prices vary by operator, vehicle, pickup location, party size, luggage and timing. Obtain a written quote and confirm all of the following:
- Whether the price covers the entire vehicle or is charged per passenger.
- Total price, taxes and gratuity.
- Exact airport pickup location and hotel drop-off.
- Child-seat or booster availability and installation responsibilities.
- Luggage capacity, including bikes or oversized items.
- Cancellation, delay and waiting-time terms.
Do not treat one company’s advertised fare as the market-wide price.

Uber and Lyft
Uber and Lyft operate at PHX, but an on-demand driver may not accept a roughly 120-mile one-way trip to Sedona, and availability for the return can be unpredictable. Sedona’s local rideshare supply also varies. For a time-critical airport transfer, a reserved private vehicle or scheduled Groome service is more dependable than assuming an app will produce a driver in either direction. PHX publishes its rideshare information.
Airport taxis
PHX taxis are available, but the airport’s published taxi information describes local airport taxi service, not a guaranteed flat fare to Sedona. If you want a taxi for this intercity trip, arrange an advance quote with the operator and confirm the vehicle, total fare and Sedona drop-off rather than relying on the airport queue. See PHX taxi information.
Why flying usually does not help
Sedona Airport is a general-aviation facility and does not offer scheduled commercial passenger service, according to its airport FAQ. Flagstaff Pulliam Airport has commercial airline service, including American Airlines service to Phoenix, but flying from PHX to Flagstaff and then arranging another ground journey to Sedona adds airport procedures and a transfer to a trip that is normally about two hours by road.
Consider Flagstaff Pulliam only if it is already part of a larger itinerary or you are flying into Flagstaff from another city. It is not a practical normal substitute for driving or taking a ground shuttle from PHX.

Do you need a car after arriving in Sedona?
Sometimes, but not always. A car is valuable if you plan to visit several trailheads, move between Uptown and West Sedona, stay in the Village of Oak Creek, visit Cottonwood, Jerome, Montezuma Castle or Flagstaff, dine late, or explore outside the main transit corridors.
Going without a car is workable when your hotel is near a Groome stop, your itinerary uses tours or nearby attractions, and you are prepared to use Sedona’s local transit, taxis or prearranged rides. The important distinction is that an intercity arrival shuttle and the local sightseeing shuttles are separate systems:
- Groome Transportation: scheduled PHX-to-Sedona-area service.
- Sedona Shuttle Trailhead Routes: free local fixed-route service to selected trailheads.
- Sedona Shuttle Connect: paid on-demand local service within its defined service area.
- Verde Shuttle: local service through Sedona and between Sedona and Cottonwood.
Free Sedona Shuttle Trailhead Routes
The city’s free Trailhead Shuttle currently serves:
- Cathedral Rock.
- Little Horse.
- Soldier Pass.
- Dry Creek Vista, with access toward Devil’s Bridge.
- Mescal.
The fixed-route trailhead shuttles generally operate year-round Thursday through Sunday from approximately 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. They run daily during spring break and on selected holidays. The current live page states that all Trailhead Routes entered full operation on Friday, July 31, 2026. There are no reservations, and both the shuttle and its park-and-ride lots are free.
Park-and-ride lots
| Park-and-ride lot | Address | Primary trailhead connections |
|---|---|---|
| North SR 179 Park & Ride | 1294 SR 179 | Cathedral Rock and Little Horse |
| Posse Grounds Park & Ride | 20 Carruth Drive | Soldier Pass |
| West SR 89A Park & Ride | 905 Upper Red Rock Loop Road | Mescal and Dry Creek |
These lots prohibit overnight parking, and RVs, campers and buses are prohibited. Cathedral Rock and Soldier Pass trailhead parking can be closed while shuttle service is operating. Soldier Pass also has Forest Service closure rules that include an overnight closure from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Shuttle riders are not charged a trailhead parking fee and do not need a Red Rock Pass for that shuttle access. If you drive to another trailhead, check the current parking and pass rules rather than assuming the same policy applies everywhere. See the Sedona Shuttle riding FAQ.
Sedona Shuttle Connect
Sedona Shuttle Connect is the city’s on-demand local service. It generally operates Thursday through Sunday, with expanded service during peak periods, and can connect eligible hotels and other locations to the trailhead park-and-rides and additional destinations within its service area. The city currently lists the fare as $2 per ride, or $1 for seniors and eligible discounted riders.
Service areas, hours and pickup availability can change. Check the current app or service page instead of promising yourself a particular pickup time, especially for an early hike or an evening return.

Verde Shuttle
The Verde Shuttle provides approximately hourly daily service through Sedona and between Sedona and Cottonwood. Current published hours are roughly 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The fare is currently listed as $1 per boarding within Sedona and $2 per ride between Sedona and Cottonwood. Exact fare is required, and the route connects with two Sedona Shuttle park-and-ride lots.
What the local shuttle network does not solve
The free trailhead system is not a universal Sedona sightseeing bus. Verify transportation for Bell Rock, Airport Mesa, the Chapel of the Holy Cross, remote trailheads, evening restaurants, early-morning hikes and destinations outside the Sedona transit area. A traveler without a car should map the complete trip from hotel to attraction and back, not just the Phoenix-to-Sedona leg.
Which option should you choose?
Choose a rental or personal car if:
- You want to visit several trailheads or viewpoints.
- Your accommodation is outside a convenient shuttle corridor.
- You plan to visit Cottonwood, Jerome, Montezuma Castle, Flagstaff or other Verde Valley destinations.
- You want control over departure times and the ability to change plans.
- Your group is large enough that the all-in car cost may compare favorably with several shuttle tickets and local rides.
Budget for rental charges, fuel, parking, insurance, congestion and the need to use trailhead shuttles where parking is restricted. A car gives you reach, not guaranteed parking.
Choose Groome if:
- You are arriving at PHX and do not want to drive.
- Your hotel is a listed stop or has a confirmed connection.
- You prefer a scheduled shared ride to a public bus.
- You are traveling alone or as a couple and do not need a car throughout the trip.
Accept fixed departures, reservation requirements, shared-ride stops and the possibility that you will need local transportation after arrival.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Choose Greyhound/FlixBus if:
- Price is your top priority.
- The one daily departure works for your itinerary.
- You can reach a Phoenix-area departure point, including the 44th Street station if arriving at PHX.
- You have a confirmed pickup or local transportation plan from the Sedona ARCO stop.
It is not a strong choice for a late PHX arrival, a family with lots of luggage, an early trailhead start, a Village of Oak Creek hotel or a tight onward connection.
Choose a private transfer if:
- Door-to-door convenience outweighs cost.
- You are traveling with a group or significant luggage.
- You need a planned late-night, early-morning or accessible transfer.
- You want to avoid rental-car facilities and Sedona parking.
Booking and arrival checklist
If you are renting a car
- Enter your actual pickup location, not simply Phoenix, and your actual accommodation or attraction, not simply Sedona.
- Check whether your hotel charges for parking and whether your itinerary includes destinations outside the shuttle network.
- Check AZ511 before leaving, particularly if using SR 89A through Oak Creek Canyon.
- For a return to PHX, allow extra time for southbound I-17/SR 179 work, traffic, rental-car return and airport procedures.
If you are taking Groome
- Book at least 24 hours ahead when possible and save the exact confirmation and destination stop.
- Check whether your hotel receives direct service or whether you need a local connection.
- At PHX, use the correct Terminal 3 or Terminal 4 door and arrive at least 15 minutes before departure.
- Leave a realistic buffer after a flight for baggage claim. If the flight is delayed, contact Groome immediately; the reservation does not guarantee that the vehicle will wait.
- Confirm luggage, pet and child-seat rules before traveling.
If you are taking Greyhound or FlixBus
- Verify the exact departure location. The 44th Street PHX Sky Train Station is not an airline terminal.
- Check the one daily departure against your flight arrival.
- Arrange the Sedona ARCO-to-hotel connection before boarding.
- Confirm current luggage and accessibility policies with the operator if you have unusual equipment, a bike, mobility device or oversized baggage.
If you are traveling without a car in Sedona
- Choose a hotel based on its actual Groome stop and proximity to local transit, not just its city name.
- Check whether the Sedona Shuttle Trailhead Routes operate on your hiking days.
- Use Sedona Shuttle Connect or Verde Shuttle where their current service area and hours fit your plan.
- Arrange transport for attractions and meal times not served by the fixed-route system.
Frequently asked questions
Is Phoenix or Flagstaff closer to Sedona?
Flagstaff is much closer by road: Sedona is roughly a short drive south of Flagstaff, while PHX is approximately 119 miles away. However, Phoenix is the more common airport starting point, and driving from PHX is normally simpler than flying from PHX to Flagstaff and arranging a second ground transfer.
Is there a direct bus from Phoenix to Sedona?
Yes. Greyhound and FlixBus currently list a direct Phoenix-Tempe-area-to-Sedona route, with a minimum published time of about 2 hours 40 minutes and a starting fare around $22.48. The current listing shows one daily departure, and the Sedona arrival is at the ARCO stop rather than a hotel.
Can I get from PHX to Sedona without renting a car?
Yes. Groome is the most straightforward scheduled airport option, while Greyhound/FlixBus is cheaper but requires reaching a station and arranging the last mile from Sedona ARCO. Private transfers are another option. Once in Sedona, use a combination of hotel shuttles, tours, Sedona Shuttle Connect, Verde Shuttle and occasional taxis or rideshare.
Does Groome pick up at every PHX terminal?
No. Groome’s current instructions say Terminal 2 pickup is closed. At Terminal 3, use Door 9; at Terminal 4, use Door 5. In both cases, go to baggage claim, exit about 10 minutes before departure, cross to the center island and wait at the blue inter-city shuttle sign.
Where does Greyhound or FlixBus stop in Sedona?
The current listed stop is Sedona ARCO, 1990 AZ-89A, Sedona, AZ 86336. Confirm that your hotel can collect you or arrange a taxi, rideshare or other connection before choosing the bus.
Is Uber reliable from Phoenix to Sedona?
It is not reliable enough to be your only plan for a time-critical intercity trip. Uber and Lyft operate at PHX, but an individual driver may decline a roughly 120-mile ride, and return availability in Sedona varies. Use a scheduled Groome booking or pre-booked private transfer when the trip must happen at a specific time.
Should I take SR 179 or SR 89A?
From Phoenix, SR 179 via I-17 Exit 298 is normally the standard and more direct route, especially for Village of Oak Creek and central Sedona. SR 89A through Oak Creek Canyon is the scenic alternative from the Flagstaff side, not normally the fastest Phoenix route. Because SR 89A has had fire-response and construction restrictions in 2026, check AZ511 before using it.

Is the Phoenix-to-Sedona drive difficult?
The main I-17 portion is a straightforward highway drive in normal conditions. The approach through SR 179 is paved and scenic, but congestion, construction, winter weather and the canyon route can make conditions slower or more demanding. Use current navigation, obey restrictions and avoid treating the nominal two-hour time as a guarantee.
Are Sedona trailhead shuttles free?
Yes. The city’s Trailhead Routes and their park-and-ride parking are currently free, with no reservation required. They serve selected trailheads, not every hotel, attraction or trail. Sedona Shuttle Connect and Verde Shuttle are separate services with their own fares and schedules.
What if I am staying in the Village of Oak Creek?
For driving, SR 179 is the direct approach from I-17. For Groome, confirm that your specific accommodation is covered by a Village of Oak Creek stop or reserved hotel service. Do not assume a Sedona-town shuttle or the Greyhound ARCO stop is nearby; plan the final connection before traveling.
How early should I leave Sedona for a PHX flight?
Work backward from your flight time rather than using two hours as the entire schedule. Add the normal road journey, likely traffic and construction delays, fuel or rental-car return, airport transfer and airline security time. The current southbound I-17/SR 179 bridge restriction is especially relevant on this return trip. For an important or early flight, staying near Phoenix the night before may be less stressful than attempting the entire trip that morning.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cheapest way to get from Phoenix to Sedona?
The lowest current published scheduled fare is Greyhound/FlixBus, listed from about $22.48. It currently has one daily departure, leaves from a Phoenix-area stop rather than the airline terminals, and arrives at Sedona ARCO, so include the cost and time of getting to and from those locations.
What is the easiest way to get from Phoenix Airport to Sedona without driving?
Groome Transportation is generally the easiest scheduled option from PHX. It serves Terminals 3 and 4, has multiple displayed departures and offers Sedona-area and some reserved hotel stops. Book ahead and confirm the exact stop, because a reservation does not guarantee a wait for a delayed flight.
Can I visit Sedona without a rental car?
Yes, but plan the local transportation before booking the intercity trip. Sedona’s free Trailhead Routes serve five selected trailhead areas, while Sedona Shuttle Connect, Verde Shuttle, tours, taxis and occasional rideshare cover other needs. The network does not reach every hotel, attraction, restaurant or remote trailhead.

PHX to the Sedona area is approximately 119 miles. The drive is roughly two hours in normal conditions, but the actual time changes with your Phoenix origin, Sedona neighborhood, traffic, construction, weather, stops and incidents.
Is there commercial air service to Sedona?
No. Sedona Airport is a general-aviation facility without scheduled commercial passenger service. Flagstaff Pulliam Airport has commercial airline service, but flying there from PHX and then transferring to Sedona usually adds complexity to a trip that is normally easier by road.
Are Sedona trailhead shuttles free and do they require reservations?
The city’s Trailhead Routes and park-and-ride lots are currently free and do not require reservations. They generally run Thursday through Sunday from about 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with expanded schedules during spring break and selected holidays. Check the current service page for your date.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Rent a car or drive your own vehicle if you want the freedom to explore Sedona’s dispersed trailheads, neighborhoods and nearby Verde Valley destinations. If you are flying into PHX and do not need a car after arrival, book Groome and confirm the exact hotel connection. Choose Greyhound/FlixBus only when its one daily departure, Phoenix-area pickup and Sedona ARCO arrival all work for your itinerary. Whatever you choose, check AZ511 before departure and make a specific plan for Sedona’s last mile.
