Published cargo volume also changes by market and driveline, so use the figure for your vehicle and trial-fit your own bags before a trip.
The 2026 China specification describes a seven-seat X9 with four ISOFIX interfaces across the second and third rows. XPENG Australia lists 721 L with all seven seats in use and up to 2,554 L, while XPENG’s UAE figures differ between its listed rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions. Those numbers are planning references, not a guarantee that a particular suitcase shape will fit beside a particular child seat.

Start with the exact X9 in your driveway
Before measuring a bag or attaching a seat, identify the vehicle you actually own. The X9 is sold in different markets and configurations, and the owner manual is market- and revision-specific. A China-market seven-seat vehicle, an Australian vehicle and a UAE vehicle may have different published capacities, equipment or restraint tables.
- Confirm the market and model year. Use the registration, sales documents, vehicle identification information and the label on the vehicle to establish where and when it was built.
- Confirm the driveline and seating version. In the UAE material, the published cargo figures differ for the listed rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) versions.
- Obtain the matching owner manual. Do not rely on an English manual from another market if your car was supplied elsewhere. Check the revision or publication date as well as the language.
- Keep the child-restraint instructions beside the vehicle manual. The restraint manufacturer defines the child’s size or weight category and the installation method; the X9 manual defines which positions are applicable.
This identification step prevents two common errors: applying a capacity number from another country to your car, and moving a seat to an apparently convenient anchor that the applicable-position table does not approve.

What the published ISOFIX information does—and does not—mean
XPENG’s 2026 China specification describes four ISOFIX child-seat interfaces distributed across the second and third rows of the seven-seat X9. That is an anchor count, not a universal compatibility statement. ISOFIX hardware can be present at a position while a particular rear-facing, forward-facing or booster category is not listed as suitable there.
The English X9 owner manual uses an applicability table organised by seating position and restraint category. In the material available for this guide, the table identifies second-row left, second-row right and third-row right applicability for some ISOFIX categories. It does not establish that every category is approved at every one of those positions, and it does not justify assuming that third-row left or a centre position is approved when the table does not say so.
- Read the row for the exact child-restraint category, not just the word “ISOFIX.”
- Read the column for the exact seat position and side.
- If the restraint requires a top tether or another belt path, verify that requirement in both manuals.
- When the two manuals appear to conflict, stop and obtain clarification from XPENG or the restraint manufacturer rather than improvising.
Install each child seat in a documented, approved position
The following process keeps the compatibility decision separate from the physical loading exercise. It is deliberately based on the two manuals; the available sources do not provide a hands-on installation demonstration for a named child-seat model.

- Classify the child and restraint. Record the child’s current size or weight category and whether the restraint is rear-facing, forward-facing or a booster. Use the restraint maker’s limits, not a generic age rule.
- Choose a candidate position. Start with a position that the local X9 manual lists for that exact category. Check the side and row separately; “second row” or “third row” alone is not precise enough.
- Prepare the seat area. Move the vehicle seat only as allowed by the X9 instructions, clear objects from the anchor area and make sure the restraint can sit in its required orientation without pressing against a control or another seat.
- Install exactly as the restraint instructions specify. Engage the ISOFIX connectors, route any belt or tether required by the restraint and use only the anchor points identified for that purpose. Do not substitute a nearby cargo tie-down or another fitting.
- Complete the manufacturer’s security checks. Follow the restraint manual’s test for connector engagement, belt routing, recline and harness adjustment. A visual click is not by itself proof of a correct installation.
- Check access and controls. Operate the relevant second- or third-row release, slide, recline and folding controls without forcing them. Confirm that an adult can reach the child and that the seat does not prevent the row from locking in its travel position.
- Record the approved arrangement. Note the row, side, orientation and restraint model. Recheck the installation whenever the seat is removed, the row is folded or the restraint is moved to another side.
If a connector will not engage, the restraint sits at an abnormal angle or a belt cannot follow its specified path, do not “make it work” by changing the route. Recheck the category and position table first; if the combination remains unsuitable, select another position that the manuals approve.

How to choose among the second and third rows
Second-row left and right
The English manual’s applicability table includes these positions for some ISOFIX categories, but the approved categories must be read from the table for your manual revision. These positions are often the easiest for loading a child because the doors and the space between rows are more accessible, yet a particular restraint may still require a different orientation or a belt installation.
Third-row right
The available manual material lists the third-row right position for some ISOFIX categories. Verify the exact category before installing there. Check that the route to the third row remains usable and that the restraint does not interfere with the seat-folding mechanism or the luggage area.
Third-row left or a centre position
Do not infer approval from the four-anchor headline or from symmetry in the cabin. If the local applicability table does not list a category at third-row left or in a centre position, treat that combination as unapproved until XPENG and the restraint maker confirm it. A physical anchor, if present, is not a substitute for the table.
When more than one child seat is fitted
Evaluate the complete combination, not each seat in isolation. Two restraints can be individually approved yet leave insufficient clearance to buckle a neighbouring passenger, reach a release, or fold a seat. Install the seats in their intended positions, place the passengers who will actually travel in the remaining seats, and operate the doors and row controls before packing.

Published cargo capacities by market and configuration
Use the following figures only as labelled manufacturer specifications. They are not interchangeable and do not describe the shape of the available space around a child seat.

The differences are large enough that a capacity copied from a review or brochure for another country can mislead your packing plan. Confirm the number against the page or manual for your own market, and note whether it assumes all seats up, a particular row folded or another specified configuration.
Choose a seating-and-loading arrangement
There is no single “best” layout. The right choice depends on the children’s approved positions, whether the third row is needed by passengers, the dimensions and shell shape of your luggage, and how often you need to access the seats or bags.

Do not rank these arrangements by litres alone. A long hard case may fail to pass the tailgate opening even when the calculated volume appears sufficient, while several smaller soft bags may use the same space more effectively. Seat controls and access for the child can be more important than the nominal maximum.

A practical packing sequence
- Install and inspect the child restraints first. This fixes the non-negotiable footprint. Do not remove a correctly installed seat simply to create a temporary packing gap.
- Set the rows for the journey. Lock every occupied seat in its travel position and confirm that a folded third row is fully stowed according to the vehicle instructions.
- Measure the real luggage. Record length, width and height, including wheels, handles and rigid corners. Check the tailgate opening and the narrowest route to the intended space, not just the floor area.
- Load heavy items low and forward of the luggage area. Keep them away from harnesses, ISOFIX connectors, tether routes, seat-release straps and the child’s reach.
- Fill irregular gaps with flexible bags. Soft-sided luggage or packing cubes can make use of small spaces, but they cannot compensate for an unapproved child-seat position or overloaded seat.
- Leave operating clearance. Open and close the tailgate, doors and any row controls. Make sure no bag can fall into the path of a sliding or folding seat.
- Secure the load. Use the X9’s designated luggage restraints or nets if supplied for your vehicle, and follow the owner manual’s instructions. Do not attach cargo to child-seat anchors.
- Perform a final passenger simulation. Put the actual passengers in their seats, buckle everyone, check sight lines and verify that the driver can see safely. Then close the tailgate without forcing it.
For repeated trips, take a photograph or written note of the successful layout, including which bag occupies each space. Recreate it only after checking that the children, restraints and luggage have not changed; a new child seat or a larger suitcase can invalidate the old arrangement.

XPENG’s China launch announcement says, in translation, that everyone on the trip can bring one 24-inch suitcase each. The announcement presents this as a seven-person loading claim. It is a manufacturer statement, not an independently measured packing test, and it does not publish the suitcase’s exact external dimensions, wheel design, shell thickness or the precise seat configuration used.
Use the statement as a rough illustration of the intended family-travel capability, not as a promise for every 24-inch case. Suitcases sold under that label vary substantially. Before relying on the claim, measure your own cases and test them with the child restraints installed in the positions you will use.

The ISOFIX connector will not latch
Stop and confirm that the restraint’s category is listed for that exact X9 position. Check for an obstruction, a twisted connector or a seat cushion blocking the path, then repeat the manufacturer’s installation sequence. If it still will not latch, move only to another position approved by both manuals; do not force the connector or use a different anchor.

The seat fits but blocks a row control
Operate the affected slide, recline and fold controls with the restraint installed. If the control cannot be used as intended, the arrangement is impractical even if the connector is engaged. Try another approved side or row, or keep the third row folded and move luggage rather than compromising access.
The tailgate closes only when bags are pressed against a seat
Remove the pressure and re-pack. A closed tailgate does not prove that luggage is safely positioned. Re-measure the bag, rotate it, use a softer item in that space or choose a smaller case. Never compress a child restraint, harness or tether to gain a few centimetres.
Your brochure figure does not match your vehicle
Check market, model year and driveline before assuming something is wrong. The Australian and UAE pages publish different values, and the UAE values differ between the listed RWD and AWD versions. Use the specification for your vehicle and configuration rather than averaging figures from different pages.

A third-row position looks identical to an approved one
Do not rely on visual symmetry. Return to the local manual’s applicability table and verify the category, side and row. If that cell is not listed, obtain confirmation before using it.
Pre-trip checklist
- Vehicle market, model year and driveline confirmed.
- Correct local owner-manual revision available.
- Each child’s restraint category checked against the restraint instructions.
- Each row-and-side position checked against the X9 applicability table.
- ISOFIX, belt and tether installation completed exactly as instructed.
- Seat, harness and tether clear of luggage and seat controls.
- Actual luggage measured, including wheels and handles.
- Tailgate, doors, seat releases and passenger access tested with the load aboard.
- Heavy luggage secured and visibility kept clear.
- Final arrangement rechecked after every seat or luggage change.
What the available specifications cannot tell you
The published material establishes specifications and manufacturer claims, not a physical fit test for a named child seat and a named set of suitcases. It does not provide a complete dimensional map of the cargo bay, verified external dimensions for 24-inch cases or an independent test combining all seven occupants, particular restraints and specific luggage. That is why the safest final step is a trial fit in the exact X9 before departure.
