How to Connect Your Phone to an Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica

Use Settings > Connectivity > My Devices to pair a phone with the Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica, then select wireless CarPlay or Android Auto—or connect a compatible USB cable for wired Mirror Screen.

By CarCody Team

To connect a phone to the Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica, pair it in Settings > Connectivity > My Devices. Bluetooth pairing enables supported calls, messages and media; selecting Apple CarPlay or Android Auto then adds phone-app projection. You can also use a compatible USB data cable for wired Mirror Screen projection or charging.

The menu names below follow the Australia-market 2025 Junior handbook. Infotainment software, USB-port availability and feature support can vary by country, vehicle version and phone, so use your local handbook if its labels differ.

Choose the connection that matches what you want to do

The Junior Elettrica has three related but separate phone functions. Choosing the right one first prevents a common mistake: pairing Bluetooth successfully does not always mean that phone projection has been selected.

Connection Best for What it provides What you need
Bluetooth Hands-free calls, supported messaging and media A basic phone link through the vehicle system Bluetooth enabled on the phone and a completed pairing
Wireless Apple CarPlay Projecting compatible iPhone apps and controls CarPlay on the infotainment display without a cable An iPhone paired in My Devices, with the CarPlay connection mode selected
Wireless Android Auto Projecting compatible Android phone apps and controls Android Auto on the infotainment display without a cable An Android phone paired in My Devices and the Android Auto setup completed
Wired Mirror Screen Projection when wireless setup is unavailable, plus USB use A cable-based projection connection; a compatible cable can also charge the phone A compatible USB port and a data-capable cable, preferably the phone maker’s original short cable

Alfa Romeo lists wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for the Junior Elettrica, so a cable is optional for projection. Bluetooth remains the setup foundation for a new wireless connection. Wired Mirror Screen is best viewed as an alternative connection path, not as a requirement for every phone.

If your goal is only a hands-free call or music, stop after Bluetooth pairing. If you want the phone interface on the infotainment display, continue by selecting the appropriate projection mode and accepting the phone’s permissions. This distinction also helps explain why a phone can appear connected while CarPlay or Android Auto is not visible.

Prepare the car and phone before pairing

  • Park safely. Do the initial setup with the vehicle stationary. The handbook specifically requires the first Android Auto validation procedure to be carried out while stationary.
  • Turn on Bluetooth. Keep Bluetooth enabled on the phone for future automatic connections and wireless projection.
  • Keep the phone unlocked during setup. Pairing and projection prompts appear on both the phone and the infotainment screen, and each prompt must be accepted on the appropriate device.
  • Have the local handbook available. The Australia-market 2025 manual uses the labels Settings, Connectivity and My Devices; a different market or software release may use slightly different wording.
  • Check cable compatibility before using USB. The vehicle port and both ends of the cable must match. The manual recommends the phone’s original cable, preferably one with minimal length.

Before beginning, decide which phone should be the active device if several people regularly use the car. A previously stored phone can be selected from My Devices; creating another entry for the same handset can make it less clear which connection the vehicle is trying to use. Keep the handset close enough to read both screens and complete every prompt rather than leaving setup half-finished.

Permissions matter. If the phone asks to share contacts or recent calls, approve those permissions only if you want those functions through the vehicle. Bluetooth pairing can succeed even when a permission is declined, but the corresponding phone function may then be unavailable. The exact features exposed through Bluetooth depend on the phone, and the handbook warns that some functions are not supported on every device.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Pair the phone with Bluetooth

Bluetooth pairing is the starting point for calls and media and, for a new device, for wireless CarPlay or Android Auto.

  1. Put the Junior Elettrica in a safe stationary state and enable Bluetooth on the phone.
  2. On the infotainment display, open Settings.
  3. Select the Connectivity tab.
  4. Open My Devices.
  5. Start adding a device from the vehicle, or open the phone’s Bluetooth device list and select the vehicle’s system name when it appears.
  6. Check that the pairing code or confirmation shown on the phone matches the vehicle, then accept the prompts on both screens.
  7. If the phone asks for permission to share contacts or recent calls, allow it if you want those functions available through the vehicle.

When pairing succeeds, the phone should appear in My Devices. Leave Bluetooth enabled on the phone: future connections depend on it. The exact calls, messages, media controls and other phone functions available can vary by device; the handbook cautions that some functions are not supported on every phone.

Pairing is a two-screen process, so do not accept a code on one device while ignoring the other. If the vehicle starts the process, leave the infotainment pairing screen open while checking the phone. If the phone starts it, select the vehicle’s displayed system name and then confirm the matching request in the car. A completed entry in My Devices is the useful checkpoint; until it appears there, projection setup is premature.

If the phone is already listed

Select the existing phone in My Devices rather than creating a second entry. The device menu is also where you select the projection mode for a paired phone. If several phones are present, choose the one you intend to use before starting CarPlay or Android Auto.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When changing drivers, selecting the intended phone first avoids sending a projection request to the wrong handset. Bluetooth-only operation remains useful when a passenger’s phone is paired for calls or media but should not take over the display.

Start wireless Apple CarPlay

Wireless CarPlay uses the Bluetooth pairing already described, followed by a CarPlay-specific connection mode and the iPhone’s approval prompts.

  1. Turn on Bluetooth on the iPhone and keep it unlocked for setup.
  2. In the vehicle, open Settings > Connectivity > My Devices.
  3. For a new phone: complete Bluetooth pairing first, then follow the on-screen CarPlay prompts on the vehicle and iPhone.
  4. For an already paired phone: select the iPhone in My Devices and choose Apple CarPlay as the wireless connection mode.
  5. Accept the iPhone’s permission and connection requests. Once approved, CarPlay should open on the infotainment display.

If CarPlay does not launch after the iPhone is paired, return to the phone entry in My Devices and verify that Apple CarPlay, rather than Bluetooth-only operation, is selected. A compatible USB connection is the alternative described in the handbook.

There are therefore two separate checkpoints: the iPhone must first be recognized as a Bluetooth device, and then its connection mode must be CarPlay. Reaching only the first checkpoint gives you basic phone functions but not the projected interface. Keep the iPhone available to approve any permission request that appears after the mode is changed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Start wireless Android Auto

The Android Auto flow is similar, but the handbook calls out an additional safety requirement for the first connection.

  1. Keep the vehicle stationary and turn on Bluetooth on the Android phone.
  2. Open Settings > Connectivity > My Devices in the Junior’s infotainment system.
  3. Start a wireless connection from My Devices. If the phone has not been paired before, complete the Bluetooth pairing prompts first.
  4. Follow the Android Auto setup and permission prompts on the phone and vehicle.
  5. Complete the first-connection validation while the vehicle remains stationary.

If Android Auto still will not connect, check the phone’s compatibility information as recommended by the handbook. A compatible USB connection can be used instead when the phone and vehicle support wired Mirror Screen.

Do not try to complete the first validation while moving. Once the initial procedure is complete, a later connection can use the stored phone entry, but Bluetooth still needs to remain enabled. If the device is visible in My Devices and calls work but Android Auto does not, return to that entry and repeat the Android Auto selection and permission steps.

Use a USB cable for wired Mirror Screen

A cable is useful when wireless projection is unavailable, when a wireless connection is unreliable, or when you prefer to keep the phone connected for charging. It is not required for the Junior Elettrica’s listed wireless CarPlay and Android Auto capability.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Park safely and identify a USB port that supports the vehicle’s Mirror Screen function. Port locations and supported connectors can differ by market and vehicle version, so confirm them in the local handbook.
  2. Use the phone maker’s original USB cable where possible. The handbook recommends a short cable to reduce cable-related problems.
  3. Check that the cable is suitable for data, not only power, and that both connector ends fit the phone and the vehicle port.
  4. Connect the phone to the compatible USB port and unlock it if prompted.
  5. Accept the projection permissions on the phone and select the relevant projection option on the infotainment screen.

If the phone charges but Mirror Screen does not appear, the cable may provide power without data, the port may not support projection, or the connector combination may not be compatible. Try another known-compatible data cable and check the vehicle handbook before treating the infotainment system as faulty.

  • What You Get: You will receive 1pcs 1.5ft USB 3.1 Gen2 10Gbps Cable, with our 12-month product replacement warranty and lifetime 24/7 friendly technical support.

A short original cable is recommended because it reduces one variable in troubleshooting. Avoid assuming that every USB socket in the vehicle supports Mirror Screen: the correct port depends on the market and vehicle version. Also check both connector ends; a cable that fits physically can still be unsuitable for data or for the particular phone and vehicle combination.

Switch phones or change the connection mode

The My Devices list is the control point for paired phones. When more than one phone is stored:

  • Open Settings > Connectivity > My Devices and select the phone you want to use.
  • Choose Bluetooth-only operation when you need calls or media without projection.
  • Choose Apple CarPlay for a paired iPhone or Android Auto for a paired Android phone when you want projected apps.
  • Keep Bluetooth enabled on the selected phone so the vehicle can reconnect later.

Do not assume that plugging in a cable automatically changes every setting. If the phone is paired but the expected projection interface does not open, select the appropriate mode and accept any new prompts.

For a permanent phone change, remove obsolete pairings rather than repeatedly adding the same handset. This keeps the list understandable and makes it easier to identify the active device. For a temporary passenger connection, Bluetooth-only mode can provide calls or media without changing which driver’s phone is selected for projection.

Troubleshoot the most common connection failures

The vehicle cannot find the phone

  • Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on the phone and that the phone is discoverable during setup.
  • Open Settings > Connectivity > My Devices and start pairing from the vehicle, then check the phone’s Bluetooth list for the vehicle system name.
  • If the phone was previously paired, select its existing entry instead of adding a duplicate.
  • Check that the phone and vehicle show the same pairing confirmation before accepting it.

If no entry appears, repeat the process with the phone unlocked and Bluetooth settings open. Verify that you are looking for the vehicle’s system name, not a projection name. A phone that is already stored may need to be selected from My Devices instead of discovered as a new device.

The phone is paired, but CarPlay or Android Auto does not start

  • Open the phone entry in My Devices and make sure the intended projection mode is selected.
  • Confirm that Bluetooth is still enabled.
  • For a new wireless setup, complete the phone’s CarPlay or Android Auto permission prompts rather than stopping after Bluetooth pairing.
  • For Android Auto, repeat the first validation with the vehicle stationary.

Wireless CarPlay stopped working after an earlier setup

The handbook’s connection-failure procedure is to remove the old pairing records on both the iPhone and the vehicle, then perform the setup again from the beginning. This clears a stale pairing relationship instead of adding another duplicate entry.

After deleting the old records, repeat Bluetooth pairing, select Apple CarPlay for that phone, and accept the iPhone prompts. Do not leave only one side of the old pairing in place if the goal is a clean re-setup.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Android Auto will not complete setup

Keep the vehicle stationary for the first validation, repeat the Bluetooth and Android Auto prompts, and check the phone’s compatibility information. If wireless setup remains unsuccessful, try a compatible wired Mirror Screen connection.

Charge Samsung S10 to 50% in just 30 minutes—that’s up to 30% faster than with other 2.4A charger cable.

The USB connection charges but does not project

  • Use the phone’s original cable or another short, known data-capable cable.
  • Check both connector ends and verify that the vehicle port supports Mirror Screen, not charging alone.
  • Confirm that the cable and port are compatible with the specific phone and Junior Elettrica version.
  • If the vehicle still does not recognize the phone, consult the local handbook for the correct port and supported connection.

Charging proves only that power is reaching the phone; it does not prove that the cable carries data or that the selected port supports projection. Changing to a compatible data cable and the correct Mirror Screen port is the logical next test.

Calls work, but a phone feature is missing

Bluetooth support is not identical across all phones. The handbook notes that some phone functions may not be supported on every device. Check the phone permissions you accepted during pairing and use CarPlay or Android Auto when the missing function is a projection feature rather than a basic Bluetooth function.

Do not confuse My Alfa Connect with phone projection

My Alfa Connect is Alfa Romeo’s separate mobile-app and connected-vehicle service. It is not the infotainment screen used to launch Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Depending on the vehicle, engine, software version and service package, My Alfa Connect can provide vehicle information and app features such as checking range. For eligible electric vehicles, Alfa Romeo also describes functions for monitoring or controlling charging. Availability is conditional, so a My Alfa Connect account or app connection does not replace the Bluetooth and My Devices setup for phone projection.

Use the app when you want a vehicle-service function, and use the infotainment pairing flow when you want calls, media or projected phone apps. Installing or signing into My Alfa Connect will not by itself add the phone to My Devices.

Keep the setup reliable

  • Leave Bluetooth enabled if you expect the phone to reconnect wirelessly.
  • Use one clearly identified phone entry per device and remove obsolete pairings when switching phones permanently.
  • Keep a compatible short USB data cable in the car if you need a wired fallback or charging connection.
  • Perform pairing and first-time Android Auto validation while parked; do not work through prompts while driving.
  • When menu wording, port layout or feature availability differs from these steps, follow the handbook supplied for your country and vehicle version.

When troubleshooting, change one thing at a time: confirm Bluetooth, verify the device entry, select the intended projection mode, then test a known-compatible cable if needed. This sequence distinguishes a pairing problem from a projection-mode problem and from a USB compatibility problem without assuming that the vehicle has a fault.

Does it support wireless Android Auto?

Yes, the model is listed with wireless Android Auto. Complete the first Android Auto validation while the vehicle is stationary, as stated in the handbook.

Do I need a USB cable for CarPlay or Android Auto?

No. Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto are listed features. A compatible USB data cable is an alternative for wired Mirror Screen, troubleshooting or charging.

Why is my phone paired but CarPlay or Android Auto is missing?

Bluetooth pairing and projection selection are separate steps. Open the phone entry in My Devices, select Apple CarPlay or Android Auto as appropriate, and complete all phone permission prompts.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What cable should I use for wired Mirror Screen?

Use the phone maker’s original cable where possible, preferably a short one. It must carry data, fit both connector ends and connect to a USB port that supports Mirror Screen; check the local handbook for port details.

What should I do if wireless CarPlay worked before but now fails?

Remove the old pairing record from both the iPhone and the vehicle, then repeat Bluetooth and CarPlay setup from the beginning.

Is My Alfa Connect the same as Apple CarPlay or Android Auto?

No. My Alfa Connect is Alfa Romeo’s separate connected-vehicle app and service. Depending on the vehicle and package, it may show range or provide EV charging functions, but it does not replace My Devices phone pairing.

The Bottom Line

Start at Settings > Connectivity > My Devices: pair the phone over Bluetooth, then choose Apple CarPlay or Android Auto for wireless projection. If wireless setup fails or you prefer a cable, use a compatible short USB data cable and the vehicle’s Mirror Screen port. Keep first-time setup stationary and follow the handbook for your market’s menu labels, ports and supported devices.
