How to Compare the Tesla Model 3, Hyundai IONIQ 6, and Polestar 2: A U.S. Buyer’s Guide

A U.S. buyer’s guide to comparing the Tesla Model 3, 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6, and Polestar 2 without mixing trims, charging metrics, or warranty terms.

The best comparison is not Tesla versus Hyundai versus Polestar by name. Match the model year, trim, drivetrain, wheel choice, price basis, and charging assumptions first. On the published figures available here, Tesla shows a 363-mile EPA-estimated Model 3 configuration, while the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6 spans 240 to 342 miles depending on trim and drivetrain. The captured U.S. Polestar 2 page does not provide a comparable current specification table, so it should be treated as a car to investigate rather than assigned a numerical win from incomplete data.

Use the process below to build an apples-to-apples shortlist, verify the live price and equipment, and decide which car deserves a test drive.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Start with the comparison that actually answers your buying decision

These three electric cars can appeal to the same shopper, but the available manufacturer information does not create a controlled, same-model-year test. Tesla’s figures come from its current U.S. Model 3 product page, Hyundai’s detailed figures are for the 2025 U.S. IONIQ 6, and the captured Polestar U.S. page identifies the Polestar 2 without publishing comparable current U.S. range, price, charging, or new-car warranty figures.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That means the useful question is not simply “Which is best?” Instead, ask:

  • Which exact trim and drivetrain fit your budget?
  • What EPA range does that configuration receive, rather than what the model name suggests?
  • How will you charge on road trips and at home?
  • Which warranty terms apply to the battery and the rest of the vehicle?
  • Do the body, cargo area, controls, visibility, and standard equipment suit the way you drive?

Manufacturer range, charging, and price figures are advertised or estimated values. They are not results from one shared road test, and they should not be ranked as though every brand used the same test conditions.

Build an apples-to-apples vehicle set

Keep model year and market visible

This guide is for U.S. buyers. Hyundai’s numerical table is specifically for the 2025 IONIQ 6. Tesla’s page is a current Model 3 product page accessed October 13, 2026, but the displayed configuration and live price can change. Polestar’s U.S. page is current in the captured source, yet it does not expose a matching new-car specification sheet. If you are shopping a later model year, replace every figure with the official page for that year before making a decision.

Match drivetrain, wheels, and equipment

Drivetrain changes range and price. Wheels and tires can also change the certified result. Compare rear-wheel-drive with rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive with all-wheel-drive, and record the wheel option shown on each build sheet. Do not compare a stripped base trim with a highly equipped model and then attribute the price or range difference to the badge alone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use the same price basis

Separate a manufacturer’s starting figure from your real transaction total. Record destination or freight charges, order fees, taxes, title, registration, dealer-installed items, optional equipment, financing costs, and any incentive for which you are actually eligible. Incentive rules depend on purchase date, vehicle configuration, income, and jurisdiction; verify them with current official federal, state, and local sources before treating a discount as guaranteed.

Compare prices by exact trim, not by the lowest headline number

Hyundai publishes the clearest trim ladder in the available material. Its 2025 U.S. specifications list the following starting MSRPs:

Tesla Model 3 Premium, displayed configuration $44,130 Tesla says this includes destination and order fees but excludes taxes and other fees; price can change.
Polestar 2 Not stated on the captured U.S. product page Obtain the current U.S. model-year configuration and transaction terms before comparing.

The Hyundai prices come from Hyundai’s 2025 IONIQ 6 specifications. Tesla’s displayed figure comes from the Tesla Model 3 product page. Hyundai notes that dealer prices and availability may differ. A fair worksheet should therefore have one row for the exact car you can order or buy, not just one row labeled “IONIQ 6” or “Model 3.”

What to put on your price worksheet

  • Model year, trim, drivetrain, exterior color, wheel and tire package, and every paid option.
  • Manufacturer destination or freight charge and any order fee.
  • Dealer documentation, accessories, protection products, and other add-ons.
  • Sales tax, title, registration, and local fees.
  • Financing rate, loan term, down payment, and total interest if you will finance.
  • Only incentives that are confirmed for your location, purchase date, buyer, and configuration.

Compare EPA range by configuration

Range is where a model-name comparison becomes especially misleading. Hyundai publishes several materially different results for the 2025 IONIQ 6, while Tesla’s page presents one displayed rear-wheel-drive configuration. The available Polestar page does not provide a current comparable U.S. EPA figure.

Polestar 2 Not stated on the captured U.S. page Do not substitute a different market, model year, or used-car listing.

Hyundai’s specifications page warns that actual range varies with configuration, driving conditions, habits, battery condition, and temperature. Tesla likewise says actual range and charging performance vary with Supercharger type, vehicle configuration, state of charge, battery temperature, speed, weather, elevation, and other factors. Treat EPA figures as a consistent labeling system within their stated certification context, not as a promise of the miles you will see on every trip.

Turn range into a route decision

  1. Write down your longest routine day, including the return trip and a reserve for weather or an unexpected detour.
  2. Identify the exact trim and drivetrain that meets that requirement on paper.
  3. Repeat the calculation for winter temperatures, highway speeds, hills, and a full passenger or cargo load if those conditions are normal for you.
  4. Check charging locations along your regular routes rather than assuming a national network will be equally convenient everywhere.
  5. Compare the cost and time of charging stops, not just the largest number in a specification table.

Understand what the charging numbers actually measure

The manufacturers use different charging descriptions. Tesla reports miles added in 15 minutes and a maximum Supercharging rate. Hyundai reports an estimated time to move from 10% to 80% state of charge under specified charger conditions. Those are useful ownership clues, but they are not interchangeable measurements.

Vehicle Published public-charging information How to interpret it
Tesla Model 3, displayed configuration Up to 195 miles added in 15 minutes; maximum Supercharging rate of 250 kW. Tesla says the 15-minute estimate is based on constant-speed data. Supercharger type, state of charge, battery temperature, speed, weather, elevation, and configuration affect the result.
2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6 Approximately 18 minutes for 10–80% on a 350 kW, 800V DC ultra-fast charger; approximately 61 minutes on a 50 kW DC charger. Hyundai says time depends on battery state, charger output, settings, battery temperature, and ambient temperature.
Polestar 2 Not stated on the captured U.S. product page. Obtain the current model-year charging specification and confirm the connector and network arrangements for the car you would buy.

Hyundai’s charging figures are published on its IONIQ 6 page and in the 2025 specifications. The Tesla figures are on its Model 3 page. A 10–80% time does not tell you how many highway miles you will add, and a miles-per-15-minutes claim does not tell you how long a nearly empty battery will take to reach 80%. Battery charging also slows as the pack fills, so a short stop and a full charge are different use cases.

Ask these questions at a public charger

  • Can the car use the connector at the stations on your normal routes?
  • Is the quoted peak power available to the exact trim, or is it a station maximum?
  • How many compatible stalls are at the locations you would use, and are they open when you travel?
  • Does the route require a separate account, app, payment method, or roaming arrangement?
  • What happens if the preferred site is full, offline, or incompatible?

For a purchase decision, map two or three typical long trips and record the charger stops you would actually use. A car with a slightly lower published range can be easier to live with if its reliable charging stops are on your routes; that conclusion requires route-specific verification rather than a universal ranking.

Decide whether home charging changes the result

Home charging often matters more than a small difference in public charging claims. Hyundai describes 240-volt Level 2 home charging for the IONIQ 6 and states that the home charger is sold separately. The published estimate is approximately 6 hours 55 minutes for a 10–80% charge using a 10.9 kW, 240V AC Level 2 setup.

That time is an equipment-and-condition estimate, not a guarantee for every house. Charging speed depends on the vehicle’s onboard equipment, the circuit, the installed charger, starting state of charge, temperature, and electrical limits. A suitable 240V circuit and professional installation may be needed. Verify connector compatibility and the charger’s electrical requirements before buying equipment.

Use this home-charging check

  1. Inspect your parking location and confirm that the cable can reach the charge port without crossing a walkway or driveway hazard.
  2. Ask an electrician to evaluate panel capacity, breaker space, wire run, outlet type, and permitting requirements.
  3. Choose a charger that matches the car’s connector and the circuit’s continuous-current rating.
  4. Price the charger, wiring, permits, labor, and possible panel upgrades separately from the vehicle.
  5. Compare the installed result with your overnight schedule. If you can routinely replace a day’s driving while parked, a lower peak public-charging number may matter less.

If you cannot charge at home, write down the public stations near work, errands, and overnight parking before choosing a trim. Do not assume that buying a home charger is possible or economical without checking the property’s electrical setup.

Compare warranty coverage by component

Warranty years and mileage limits apply to different parts of the vehicle, so a single “warranty length” number hides important differences.

Vehicle Basic vehicle coverage Battery and drive-unit coverage Important qualification
Tesla Model 3, displayed terms 4 years or 50,000 miles 8 years or 120,000 miles These are the terms displayed on Tesla’s current Model 3 page; read the applicable warranty document for conditions and exclusions.
2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6 Not stated in the supplied IONIQ 6 figures 10 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first Hyundai says exclusions and complete terms are controlled by the warranty documents.
Polestar 2 New-car terms not stated on the captured U.S. page New-car battery terms not stated on the captured U.S. page The page describes a separate Certified by Polestar pre-owned benefit, not a substitute for new-car coverage.

For a Polestar 2, the official U.S. page describes an additional two-year limited warranty with unlimited miles after the new-vehicle warranty expires for qualifying certified pre-owned vehicles, subject to its conditions, and scheduled maintenance while that certified warranty is active. That information applies to the certified used program; it should not be used as the new-car warranty for a new purchase. Confirm the new-car terms, transfer rules, battery-capacity provisions, and exclusions in the paperwork for the specific vehicle.

Evaluate body, cargo, controls, and equipment in person

The available specifications provide one concrete practicality figure: Tesla lists 24 cubic feet of cargo capacity for the displayed Model 3. The captured Polestar page describes the Polestar 2 as “A fastback designed for the joy of electric performance,” which is descriptive brand language rather than an independent assessment. The supplied Hyundai and Polestar pages do not provide a complete, directly comparable cargo-and-cabin measurement set.

That gap makes a physical inspection important. During a test drive, measure and try the things that affect your routine:

  • Open every cargo area and load the largest item you carry regularly.
  • Check rear-seat headroom, knee room, child-seat access, and the shape of the opening.
  • Adjust the driver’s seat and steering wheel, then check outward visibility at junctions and while parking.
  • Operate climate, navigation, mirrors, lights, driver-assistance settings, and audio controls without relying on a salesperson’s demonstration.
  • Listen for wind, tire, and road noise on the road surface you use most.
  • Drive over the bumps, slopes, and tight parking spaces that expose ride, turning, braking, and camera limitations.
  • Confirm which equipment is standard on the exact trim and which requires a package or option.

Do not turn a feature observed on one trim into a claim about the entire model range. Save the window sticker or build sheet for the car you drove so you can distinguish standard equipment from a demonstration vehicle’s options.

A repeatable step-by-step buying method

  1. Define the use case. Record annual miles, daily distance, longest regular trip, passenger count, cargo needs, winter conditions, home parking, and tolerance for public charging stops.
  2. Choose a price ceiling. Use an out-the-door target rather than a monthly payment. Include destination or freight, taxes, registration, options, dealer fees, charging equipment, installation, and financing costs.
  3. Select the drivetrain first. Decide whether rear-wheel drive is sufficient or whether all-wheel drive is necessary for your roads and climate. Then compare only matching drivetrains.
  4. Build the exact cars. Save the model year, trim, wheels, color, options, destination charge, and displayed range for each candidate on the same date.
  5. Check route charging. Identify compatible fast chargers on your normal long trips, their operating hours, payment requirements, stall counts, and backup locations.
  6. Verify home charging. Obtain an electrical assessment and a written installation estimate before treating Level 2 charging as part of your ownership plan.
  7. Read the warranty documents. Separate basic coverage from battery and drive-unit coverage, then check mileage limits, transferability, exclusions, and any battery-capacity language.
  8. Inspect and drive the exact trim. Test cargo loading, seating, visibility, software controls, ride, noise, acceleration, braking, and parking aids.
  9. Recheck live availability. Prices, delivery timing, incentives, and specifications can change. Confirm the final vehicle identification, equipment, and contract before signing.

How the available evidence points different buyers

If maximum published range is your first filter

Start with the displayed Tesla Model 3 figure and the 2025 IONIQ 6 SE Long Range RWD figure, then verify that the configurations, wheels, and model years are genuinely comparable. The 2025 IONIQ 6 AWD trims have lower published range than their RWD counterparts, so an all-wheel-drive requirement changes the shortlist.

If purchase price is the first filter

The 2025 IONIQ 6 SE Standard Range RWD has the lowest published starting MSRP in the supplied set. Its 240-mile EPA estimate is also the lowest Hyundai figure listed, so decide whether the lower entry price meets your daily and highway requirements before treating it as the bargain choice.

If rapid road-trip charging is the first filter

Use each manufacturer’s own charging conditions as a starting point, not a universal ranking. Tesla provides a 15-minute miles-added estimate and a 250 kW maximum Supercharging rate; Hyundai provides 10–80% estimates on 350 kW, 800V DC and 50 kW DC equipment. Then test the actual route, charger availability, connector compatibility, and expected stop duration.

If warranty certainty is the first filter

The published Tesla terms specify both basic and battery/drive-unit coverage, and Hyundai specifies a 10-year or 100,000-mile battery warranty for the 2025 IONIQ 6. Obtain the current Polestar 2 new-car warranty before comparing it; the captured page’s certified-used coverage answers a different question.

Use the listed 24-cubic-foot Model 3 cargo figure as one data point, then inspect all three cars with your own luggage, passengers, child seats, and parking constraints. Published model labels do not replace a fit check.

Common comparison mistakes

  • Comparing a model name instead of a trim: IONIQ 6 range changes from 240 to 342 miles across the listed 2025 configurations.
  • Mixing price bases: Hyundai’s figures exclude freight and other charges, while Tesla’s displayed figure includes destination and order fees but excludes taxes and other fees.
  • Treating charging metrics as identical: miles added in 15 minutes and 10–80% time measure different things.
  • Using a charger’s peak rating as the car’s guaranteed rate: battery temperature, state of charge, settings, and charger output affect the result.
  • Assuming EPA range equals highway range: speed, weather, elevation, temperature, payload, and driving habits change consumption.
  • Substituting used-car coverage for new-car coverage: Polestar’s certified pre-owned benefit has its own conditions and does not establish new-car terms.
  • Ignoring installation cost: a 240V charger can require a circuit, permits, labor, or panel work in addition to the charger itself.
  • Relying on a demonstration car: verify that every feature you value is included on the trim you will purchase.

What to verify before signing

Print or save the final build sheet and ask the seller to confirm the vehicle identification number, model year, drivetrain, wheel package, battery and charging equipment, standard and optional features, destination or freight charge, dealer fees, taxes, incentives, delivery timing, and warranty documents. For the Polestar 2, insist on a current U.S. model-year specification and new-car warranty sheet before placing it in a numerical comparison. For Tesla and Hyundai, recheck the live configuration because the displayed price, availability, and equipment can change.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
