Start with availability, not the badge. In October 2026, Audi’s India pages still expose Q8 e-tron and Q8 Sportback e-tron configurations marked as 2024 model year, while current lineup coverage says Audi has no new electric car on sale in India and describes the Q6 e-tron as an expected future arrival. A configurator page is therefore not proof of fresh inventory or a confirmed delivery date. Treat a Q8 e-tron comparison as a used-car, remaining-stock or historical-price exercise until an Audi authorised dealer confirms a new, registrable car in your city.
The closest alternatives are not automatically the cars with the same logo-shaped silhouette. Match body style, model year, price basis, equipment, charging capability and local support. Mercedes-Benz India currently lists the EQS and EQS SUV; the BMW iX is another relevant premium SUV, but the India specification sheet available for it is dated April 2022. The process below shows how to make a defensible comparison without mixing unlike prices, test cycles or model years.

1. Establish what you can actually buy
Begin by checking the exact car, not a family name. Audi’s current India lineup coverage says there is no Audi electric car on sale in India at present and treats the Q6 e-tron as a future expected model. What to ask the Audi dealer
- Is the vehicle physically in India, and in which city?
- What are its VIN, manufacturing month, model year and battery condition if it is pre-owned?
- Is it an unsold new car, demonstrator, test vehicle or used import?
- Can the dealer issue a current ex-showroom and on-road quotation for your state?
- What delivery date, registration class, warranty start date and roadside-assistance term apply?
Audi itself warns that specifications can change without notice. Its comparison page says: “Due to constant product improvement / changes in regulatory framework, technical specification provided herewith are subject to change without prior notice, customers are requested to contact Audi Call Centre / Audi Authorised Dealer for further details.” Use the Audi India comparison page as a prompt to verify every specification rather than as a substitute for a current quote.
2. Build a shortlist by body style and price tier
For an SUV-shaped Audi, start with Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and BMW iX. For a buyer willing to change body style, Mercedes-Benz EQS is a premium electric sedan candidate. These are alternatives, not guaranteed like-for-like rivals: their prices, dimensions, equipment and availability vary by model year and city.

Published prices can look precise while describing different things. Compare ex-showroom prices first, then request on-road quotations for the same state and city. Keep insurance, registration, handling charges, home-charger work and optional equipment in separate columns so an apparently cheaper car does not simply exclude costs carried by its rival.

Use the four Audi numbers as historical listing context, not as a claim that those cars can still be ordered. Ask every dealer for the same quote date and the same cost categories. If one quote includes a charger, ceramic coating or insurance and another does not, remove those items before comparing vehicle prices.

Luxury EVs can differ more in daily usability than in brochure size. Inspect or test-drive each exact variant with the people and luggage you normally carry.
Cabin and seating
- Measure rear-seat knee, toe and headroom with the front seats set for the tallest regular occupant.
- Check rear air vents, charging sockets, child-seat anchor access and the center-seat shape.

Never place a WLTP number beside an India Rule 115/ARAI number and treat the larger figure as a real-world advantage. Test procedures, temperatures, speeds, tyres and equipment differ. A figure without its cycle and model year is incomplete.

The BMW figure comes from the BMW India iX specification sheet. It describes controlled testing under Rule 115 of India’s Central Motor Vehicle Rules and is not evidence of the current iX’s range, software or efficiency. For a useful trip comparison, record each car’s certified cycle, battery capacity, wheel size, temperature and your own energy consumption on the same route.
6. Examine charging as an ownership system
Charging convenience can outweigh a modest range difference. Compare the car’s AC input, DC fast-charging capability, connector, charging curve and the time required over the same state-of-charge window. A headline “10-to-80 percent” time is meaningful only when both cars are measured under comparable charger and battery-temperature conditions.

For a used or leftover Q8 e-tron, verify whether the battery and vehicle warranties began at factory delivery, dealer registration or first retail sale. Obtain a battery-health report and inspect recall completion, software version, tyres, brakes and charging equipment.
8. Compare equipment without confusing standard and optional
Print the equipment list for each exact variant and mark every item as standard, optional, unavailable or not stated. Pay particular attention to driver-assistance functions, adaptive lighting, camera systems, seat ventilation and massage, heat-pump availability, panoramic roof, rear climate controls, audio hardware and software-update support.

Create one row per exact car and complete the following fields before you rank anything:
- Identity: make, model, variant, VIN, production date, model year and new/used status.
- Money: ex-showroom, registration, insurance, accessories, charger installation and final on-road total, all quoted on the same date.
- Use: seating measurements, luggage test, ground clearance needs, parking dimensions and typical passenger count.
- Energy: certified range and cycle, battery capacity, observed consumption, AC input, DC peak and route charging time.
- Support: battery and vehicle warranty, nearest authorised workshop, roadside assistance and scheduled-service estimate.
- Equipment: standard safety, comfort, software and charging hardware, with options priced separately.
- Risk: stock age, delivery promise, residual-value uncertainty, software limitations and any unresolved dealer answer.
Weight the rows according to your life. A commuter with home charging may assign more weight to service distance and rear-seat comfort than to maximum DC speed. A frequent highway traveller should weight reliable route chargers, charging-curve performance and roadside support more heavily.
10. Common comparison mistakes and fixes
Treating a configurator as live inventory
Fix: obtain VIN, location, production date and delivery commitment. A 2024 label on a page retrieved in 2026 is a model-year clue, not a stock confirmation.
Comparing headline prices from different cities
Fix: use matched ex-showroom quotes, then matched on-road quotes for your registration address. Keep insurance and accessories visible.
Mixing WLTP, Rule 115 and marketing range

Assuming SUV shape means equal practicality
Fix: load your luggage, sit in the rear and measure the parking space. The Sportback roofline may suit your priorities or may not.
Buying on battery warranty alone
Fix: read capacity-retention thresholds, transfer rules, exclusions, service coverage and roadside assistance together.
Planning around an app map
Fix: verify connector, access, uptime, payment and a backup charger on every regular route.
11. Which alternative should an Indian buyer investigate first?
If you need a luxury SUV and can secure a current Audi Q8 e-tron at a compelling, documented price, compare it directly with the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and BMW iX using the worksheet above. The Mercedes listing provides current displayed starting-price context, while the iX’s published 446 km figure and 8-year/160,000-km battery warranty are dated 2022 references that require confirmation.
If you are open to a sedan, include the Mercedes-Benz EQS, but do not call it a direct Q8 substitute: seating height, cargo opening and driving position serve different needs. If no Audi car is actually available in your city, a currently orderable rival with transparent warranty and service support may be the lower-risk purchase even when an old Audi configurator price appears attractive.
