Short answer: do not choose by the number of years on a sales page. First have Chery or an authorised dealer confirm the vehicle’s remaining manufacturer warranty by VIN, first-registration or demonstrator date, mileage, service history and market. Then compare that written cover with the third-party provider’s full policy wording and schedule. A longer third-party term can be worth less if it excludes the failed component, imposes a low claim limit or requires repair authorisation that your garage cannot obtain.
Why the market and the individual car matter
Chery warranty terms are not universal. They vary by country, model, model year, vehicle use and the policy supplied with the car. A headline warranty for a new vehicle cannot establish how much cover remains on a used example.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Before comparing any paid warranty, identify:
- the country in which the car was first sold and registered;
- the exact model, derivative, model year and powertrain;
- the VIN and current odometer reading;
- the original registration date, or the date a dealer placed a demonstrator into service;
- the complete service history, including dates, mileage and parts used;
- any commercial, rental, driving-school, delivery, rideshare or taxi use;
- imports, accident repairs, modifications or previous warranty repairs.
Ask the seller for written confirmation of the remaining Chery cover and the warranty booklet that applies to that VIN. If the seller cannot provide it, treat the remaining term, exclusions and transfer status as unverified rather than assuming the vehicle receives the current new-car package.

What published Chery terms show
United Kingdom
Chery UK states that new vehicles have coverage of up to seven years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. The UK page says the warranty is transferable, using the wording “fully transferable to secure your vehicle’s future resale value,” but also says terms and exclusions apply. The statement is a general UK product description, not proof of the balance on a particular used car.

For super-hybrid models, the same UK material describes an eight-year or 100,000-mile high-voltage battery warranty, whichever comes first. Genuine Chery spare parts are described as having two years of cover. Those battery and parts terms should not be extended to every model or assumed to run from the used-car purchase date.
The surfaced UK policy PDF is version 1.0 and appears on the OMODA & JAECOO UK Limited site. Its exclusions include situations in which the holder may have to pay investigation charges when a reported failure is found not to be a valid warranty claim. Confirm that this is the booklet supplied with the vehicle before relying on that detail.
Australia
Chery Motor Australia describes a standard new-car warranty of seven years with unlimited kilometres. Vehicles used for specified taxi, rideshare, hire, rental, driving-school or delivery/courier purposes are described as having a seven-year/150,000-kilometre limit. The period starts at first registration, or when a dealer registers a vehicle and enters it into demonstrator service; a subsequent owner receives only the unexpired balance.

It requires servicing and maintenance to be carried out as specified. Normal maintenance and wear items are excluded, with examples including filters, lubricants, coolant, worn clutch components, brake pads or shoes, wiper blades and bulbs. The policy also identifies neglected or improper servicing, unauthorised modifications, misuse, certain non-authorised repairs and non-genuine parts as circumstances that can limit or exclude a claim.
Chery Australia separately advertises an eight-year, unlimited-kilometre high-voltage battery warranty, subject to its terms. That is a battery promise, not an eight-year unlimited-kilometre warranty for every vehicle component.

New Zealand and other markets
Chery New Zealand publishes its own seven-year policy and a different cap for specified commercial uses. This confirms that a UK or Australian term must not be applied to a car sold in New Zealand or another market. For an imported Chery, establish which national policy governs the VIN and whether an authorised network in the country where you now drive it will process claims.
Documents to obtain before paying for cover
- Chery warranty confirmation: ask Chery or an authorised dealer to state the start date, expiry date, mileage limit, current mileage, covered powertrain and any recorded exclusions against the VIN.
- The applicable booklet: obtain the complete warranty terms, not only a dealer’s advertisement or handover sheet.
- Service evidence: collect invoices, digital service records, inspection reports and details of parts and fluids used.
- Vehicle-use declaration: have the seller confirm private use or disclose taxi, rental, rideshare, commercial and demonstrator history.
- Third-party eligibility confirmation: before payment, ask the provider to confirm in writing that this VIN, age, mileage, import status and use history qualify.
- Third-party contract pack: request the policy wording, schedule, excess, claim limits, cancellation terms and assistance benefits. A summary page is not enough.
Keep copies of all answers. A verbal assurance that a car is “still under warranty” does not tell you which components, conditions or claim procedures apply.
Compare the two contracts on one page
Use the following framework. Fill it with the actual Chery booklet and third-party schedule; where a value is not stated, require the provider to state it in writing.
| Comparison axis | Chery manufacturer cover | Third-party warranty | Questions to answer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eligibility and remaining term | Confirm policy start, expiry trigger, mileage, market, use type and transfer record by VIN. | Confirm vehicle age, mileage, imports, prior faults and eligibility at purchase. | Does time or mileage end cover first? Does cover follow the car or the buyer? |
| Covered components | Read the applicable booklet for engine, transmission, electrical, infotainment, climate, suspension, steering and hybrid systems. | Determine whether the policy is comprehensive or a named-component list. | Is the exact failed part included, and are consequential failures covered? |
| Exclusions and conditions | Check wear, maintenance, servicing, modifications, misuse, non-genuine parts and unauthorised repairs. | Check wear and tear, pre-existing faults, seals, gaskets, overheating, diagnosis and servicing conditions. | Could a missed interval or earlier repair defeat the claim? |
| Claim control | Confirm authorised dealer or network requirements and any inspection process. | Check pre-authorisation, approved garages, diagnostic approval, labour rates and parts rules. | Who must approve work, and can your chosen repairer obtain approval? |
| Financial limits | Check per-repair or aggregate limits, if any, and customer contributions. | Record per-claim and total caps, excess, diagnostic and labour caps, VAT treatment and consequential-damage limits. | Would the maximum payment cover a major engine, transmission or battery repair? |
| Practical benefits | Verify whether roadside assistance, recovery, courtesy transport or travel benefits are included in the actual booklet. | Verify each benefit, trigger and daily or annual limit. | Are benefits automatic or available only after a separately approved claim? |
| Price and cancellation | Manufacturer cover is normally attached to the vehicle rather than sold as a new premium at the point of resale; confirm any transfer administration. | Record cash price, finance cost, cooling-off period, cancellation formula and resale-transfer rules. | Is the refund pro-rata, and does adding the premium to finance create interest costs? |
| Legal position | Warranty terms sit alongside statutory or consumer-law rights. | An extended warranty is also a contract and does not replace rights against the seller. | Who sold the car, and is the transaction consumer or business-to-business? |
Coverage: named parts are not the same as a complete repair
Read component definitions and exclusions together. A policy may name an engine or transmission but exclude a seal, gasket, sensor, software diagnosis, wiring fault or damage caused by an excluded component. Ask the provider to identify the exact parts covered inside each major system and whether labour, fluids, programming, calibration and removal-and-refitting are payable.
For a hybrid Chery, separate the high-voltage battery from the inverter, onboard charger, electric motor, cooling system, control modules and battery-management electronics. A published battery term does not prove that every high-voltage component has the same term or claim limit.

Wear and maintenance exclusions matter most on older used cars. Brake friction material, bulbs, filters, lubricants, coolant, wiper blades and worn clutch parts are ordinary maintenance examples identified in Chery Australia’s policy. A third-party contract may use different wording, but you should assume nothing is covered until its definition and exclusion sections agree.
Pre-existing-fault clauses can affect a car that drives normally at sale but has a documented warning light, intermittent noise or deferred repair. Disclose known symptoms and ask how the provider establishes when a defect began. Concealing a symptom can create a dispute even when the failed part is listed.
Servicing, modifications and repair history
Obtain the required service intervals for the vehicle’s market and engine. Check whether late servicing, an unauthorised lubricant, non-genuine parts, tuning, aftermarket electrical equipment, towing equipment or suspension changes affect eligibility. Chery Australia specifically identifies service compliance, improper maintenance, unauthorised modifications, misuse and certain unauthorised repairs as material limitations.
Ask whether a previous repair must have been performed by Chery, an authorised dealer or a provider-approved garage. Establish whether the warranty pays for diagnosis when no covered failure is found. The surfaced UK policy says investigation charges may be payable in that situation; the exact amount and approval process must come from the vehicle’s policy.
Claims and repair control can determine the real value
A warranty is useful only if a valid claim can be made promptly and the contract pays enough to restore the car. Before buying third-party cover, ask these questions in writing:

- Buyer's Guide: The seat guard for car seat between seat & console measures 15.75*2.7*1.53", suitable for gaps of 1.43-1.53" in width, please double-check carefully the distance between your seat and the center console before placing an order
- Storage and Filling in One: Differ from traditional single-function gap fillers, gap filler for car incorporates storage function, offers you the convenience of storing phones and various other items, so that you can access them at any time while driving
- Avoid Items Slipping: With the bumps and vibrations of the car, phones, keys may fall into the seat crevices, which is difficult to pick up, and distracts the driver's attention. Car gap seat filler fills gaps seamlessly to create an effective barrier
- Easy to Install: Car side seat gap filler is easy to install, simply insert it into the gap between the seat and the center console, gap seat filler for car can fit tightly without affecting the normal adjustment of the seat and the use of the seat belt
- Premium Material: Crafted from premium EVA material, our car seat side gap filler boasts a combination of wear-resistant, softness&durability. Maintenance is effortless, simply rinse and wipe to quickly clean the dust and debris in corners and crevices
- Must the provider authorise diagnosis before the garage strips or repairs the vehicle?
- Can you use your chosen independent garage, or must it be on an approved network?
- Does the provider set a maximum labour rate or require specific parts?
- Who pays the garage: the provider directly, or you first and then reclaim?
- Are diagnostic time, software updates, programming, fluids and disposal charges included?
- What evidence is required: service invoices, photographs, fault codes or an inspection?
- What happens if the provider and garage disagree about the cause of failure?
For Chery manufacturer cover, confirm the authorised repair network available where you live, especially if the car was imported or moved between countries. A transferable warranty may still be inconvenient if the nearest authorised facility cannot handle the claim.
How to judge the price without guessing future repairs
Do not compare the third-party premium with the headline length alone. Estimate its usable protection:
- List the expensive failures that could plausibly occur during the proposed term, such as a transmission, major electrical module, air-conditioning compressor or hybrid-system component.
- Remove items excluded as wear, maintenance, pre-existing damage or misuse.
- Apply the per-claim limit, aggregate limit, excess, labour cap and parts restrictions.
- Subtract any cost you would still pay for diagnosis, fluids, programming, transport or a non-approved repairer.
- Compare the resulting protection with the remaining Chery cover, its authorised network and the premium, including interest if the warranty is financed with the car.
This is a decision method, not a promise that a claim will occur. A low-cost policy with a £1,000 cap may contribute little to a repair costing several thousand pounds; a higher premium may still be poor value if its exclusions remove the components most likely to fail. The actual contract controls.

Australia
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission says buyers should understand the terms and limitations before purchasing an extended warranty. It also explains that Australian Consumer Law guarantees may apply alongside a manufacturer or extended warranty. Chery Australia states that “The benefits conferred by this warranty are in addition to other rights and remedies of the consumer under a law in relation to the product.” If a fault appears, contact the seller and use the appropriate consumer-advice or dispute process rather than assuming the warranty is the only remedy.

UK government guidance says goods must be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. It states that consumers always have these implied rights when buying goods and that a warranty cannot remove statutory rights. Separate guidance explains that rights to a free repair or replacement do not depend on having a warranty, and that a warranty expiring does not automatically end obligations that may remain with the seller.

The Consumer Rights Act describes a guarantee as a contractual obligation and requires essential claim information while stating that statutory rights are unaffected. Whether a particular remedy applies depends on who sold the car, when the fault appeared, the vehicle’s condition and the transaction type. This article is not legal advice for an individual dispute.
Decision rules for common used-Chery situations
The car has substantial Chery cover remaining
Prefer the manufacturer cover when the VIN confirmation, service history and transfer conditions are clean and the authorised network is practical. Consider third-party cover only for a clearly identified gap, such as cover ending soon, and check that it does not duplicate protection you already have.
The Chery cover is expired or cannot be verified
Do not value it at zero and then buy the first extended warranty offered. Ask the seller to resolve the missing records, obtain an independent inspection and compare several complete contract documents. If the manufacturer balance cannot be established, treat that uncertainty as a purchase risk and negotiate on the car rather than relying on a verbal promise.

The vehicle was imported or used commercially
Confirm the governing market policy, use classification, mileage cap and repair eligibility. UK, Australian and New Zealand terms are not interchangeable, and commercial-use limits can differ materially from private-use limits.
The third-party policy is sold at the finance desk
Ask for the policy wording before signing finance documents. Record the cash premium, total finance repayment, cancellation window and refund method. Decline to treat a monthly payment as the price; interest can make the protection materially more expensive.
Final checklist for the dealer and warranty provider
- What is the exact warranty start date for this VIN?
- What date and mileage end the Chery cover, and which comes first?
- Is the warranty transferable to me, and is any registration required?
- Which national policy and warranty booklet govern this vehicle?
- Are there recorded claims, modifications, imported status or commercial use?
- Which engine, transmission, electrical, climate, suspension, steering and hybrid components are covered?
- Which wear, maintenance, pre-existing-fault, seal, gasket, servicing and misuse exclusions apply?
- What is the excess, per-claim cap, aggregate cap, labour limit and diagnostic limit?
- Can I use my chosen garage, and who authorises diagnosis and repairs?
- Are parts, fluids, software, calibration, recovery and courtesy transport covered?
- What evidence must I submit, and who pays the garage?
- What are the cooling-off, cancellation, refund and resale-transfer rules?
- Which consumer-law rights remain against the seller?
Only after these questions are answered should you compare premiums. The better warranty is the contract that leaves this particular Chery with the most usable protection for the faults it could realistically suffer, after exclusions, limits, servicing conditions and claim procedures—not necessarily the one with the longest advertised term.
