Choose F-350 tires by the truck’s exact configuration and loaded axle weights first; then compare approved tire sizes and tread types for the roads and terrain you actually drive. There is no single correct tire size, load rating, or pressure for every F-350. Start with the driver’s door placard and owner’s manual, and confirm any replacement fitment with Ford, the tire manufacturer, or a qualified tire professional.
Start with your truck, not a tire category
An F-350’s tire requirements depend on its model year, trim, wheels, and whether it has single rear wheels (SRW) or dual rear wheels (DRW). Those details matter before you compare tread patterns: the wrong size or an inadequate load capacity can make an otherwise appealing tire unsuitable. A tire listed for one F-350 configuration is not automatically approved for another.

Write down the information on the driver’s door tire placard and check the owner’s manual. Note the specified tire size and cold pressure, including any difference between front and rear. Also record the truck’s year, trim, SRW or DRW configuration, wheel diameter and width, and the size currently installed. If the wheels, suspension, or tire size have been changed, tell the tire professional; the original placard alone may not establish whether a modified setup is safe or compatible.

| Ford 2026 example | Listed tire | How to use the example |
|---|---|---|
| Certain F-350 SRW applications | LT275/70R18E BSW A/T | Check the Ford specification for the exact trim and wheel; do not generalize this fitment to all SRW trucks. |
| F-350 Tremor 35-inch off-road tire | LT285/75R18E BSW A/T | This is a specified Tremor example, not blanket approval for other F-350 configurations. |
Both examples come from Ford’s 2026 F-350 XL and Lariat specification pages and model-variation listings. Use the applicable Ford information for your own vehicle rather than treating a current model-year listing as a fitment guide for older trucks.
These examples also answer a common size question only in part: they show what Ford lists for particular 2026 applications, but they do not identify the right size for an unspecified F-350. To establish your size, match the vehicle placard and owner’s manual to the model year, trim, wheel, and SRW or DRW setup, then verify that any proposed alternative is approved. Do not rely on an online listing that says only “fits F-350,” since that wording may not account for the truck’s exact wheel or configuration.
Make load capacity the first comparison
Towing adds weight to the truck, and the tires must be able to carry the loads placed on them. The relevant question is not simply whether a replacement tire has a familiar load-range letter or looks heavy-duty. Compare its load-carrying capacity at the pressure that applies to the vehicle and the actual axle load. Tire manufacturers publish load and inflation information for this purpose; use the information for the specific tire being considered.
The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) says a replacement tire must not have less load-carrying capacity than the original-equipment tire at the pressure specified on the vehicle placard. USTMA also identifies size, load capacity, inflation pressure, and speed rating as fitment checks. A tire that appears to match the old tire’s size still needs to be checked against these requirements. Likewise, a load-range designation by itself does not tell you whether the tire has enough capacity for your F-350’s axle load at the pressure you will use.
That distinction matters when asking, “Do I need Load Range E tires?” There is no one-letter answer that applies to every F-350: begin with the original-equipment tire and the placard, then compare the candidate tire’s actual capacity at the pressure appropriate to the load. The 2026 examples above carry an “E” designation, but that does not make them a universal prescription or prove that a different E-rated tire will meet your truck’s requirements. Confirm capacity and approved fitment for the exact candidate, rather than treating the letter as a substitute for those checks.
Work from the truck’s loaded axle weights
Consider the F-350 as it is actually used: passengers, cargo, hitch hardware, and the trailer’s tongue load or fifth-wheel king-pin load all affect the truck’s weight. If you can, obtain front- and rear-axle weights with the truck loaded for the trip. Compare those weights with the vehicle’s front and rear gross axle weight ratings (GAWR), gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), and the capacity of the proposed tires at the applicable pressure.

Ford’s 2026 Super Duty Pickup Towing Information guide says that trailer tongue or king-pin load, passengers, and cargo must not cause vehicle weights to exceed rear GAWR or GVWR. These ratings are on the Safety Compliance Certification Label. A tire choice cannot increase those vehicle limits, and an F-350 badge alone does not establish the permitted trailer weight: that also depends on the truck’s configuration and equipment.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Think of the tire check and the vehicle-rating check as separate gates. A tire may have enough capacity for the load but the loaded truck may still exceed GVWR or rear GAWR; conversely, a truck within its ratings still needs tires with adequate capacity. The trailer’s advertised or maximum weight does not by itself tell you how much load is carried by the truck’s axles. Account for the tongue or king-pin load together with occupants, cargo, and hitch hardware when assessing the truck in its tow-ready condition.
Use the tire’s capacity information—not a visual guess
Ask for the load-and-inflation information for the exact replacement tire and confirm that it supports the measured or expected axle load at the verified pressure. If the replacement is an approved option that needs a different pressure to carry its load, do not guess at a new setting. Have the tire and vehicle manufacturer guidance checked, and ask a qualified tire professional to verify the fitment and pressure. This is especially important when the truck’s wheels or tires are not the original specification.
Match tread to your actual towing and terrain mix
For a truck that spends time on pavement, tows, and also travels on unpaved roads, an all-terrain tire is a category worth comparing. That does not make every all-terrain design suitable for every F-350 or every kind of off-road use. The available Ford fitment examples establish that certain configurations have A/T tires listed; they do not establish that one tread design is best for towing, mud, gravel, rock, or snow.
Describe your use in concrete terms before comparing candidates: how much of your driving is paved, whether you regularly encounter gravel or mud, and whether the truck must travel over rock or snow. Then compare tires that are already confirmed for the truck’s size and load needs. Consider tread suitability for those conditions along with the on-road noise, ride, and wear that matter to you. The sources available here do not provide controlled comparisons or measured rankings of specific tire models, so treat those as questions to resolve from the tire manufacturer’s specifications and information—not as a basis for claiming one model is universally superior.

- Frequent gravel, mud, rock, or snow: Identify the terrain that presents the main challenge and ask whether the candidate’s tread is intended for it. Do not assume that the broad “all-terrain” label guarantees performance on every surface.
- Towing is a regular part of the job: Resolve capacity, pressure, and vehicle weight limits before allowing tread preference to decide the purchase.
These are decision prompts, not performance claims about particular tread patterns. The right comparison depends on your route and use; an off-road-oriented choice does not excuse a fitment or capacity mismatch.

So, can you use all-terrain tires for towing and off-roading? They can be one category to consider for mixed road use, provided the specific tire is approved for your truck and has the capacity required at the verified pressure. The label alone does not answer whether a particular tire suits your load, route, or terrain. Compare candidates on their documented fitment and load information first; then assess tread suitability, road noise, ride, and expected wear based on what matters in your use.
Check size, wheel fit, clearance, and speed rating
Before buying, verify that the tire is an original-equipment size or another option approved for the specific vehicle. USTMA recommends checking replacement size, load capacity, inflation pressure, and speed rating. Confirm that the tire fits the wheel’s diameter and width and that the complete setup clears the truck as equipped. A larger tire should not be assumed to fit merely because another F-350 is pictured or advertised with it.
Changes to wheels, suspension, or tire size can affect fitment and the load or pressure requirements. Provide the installer with the truck’s configuration and a clear account of modifications. Ask the installer to verify that the proposed tire is approved for the vehicle, fits the wheel, clears the truck, and has the required load capacity at the applicable pressure. If any of those points cannot be established, do not treat the size as confirmed.
Recommended Free Tools
Include the spare in the fitment conversation. Check whether it is compatible with the size installed and the truck’s drivetrain, especially if you are changing from the original size. Do not assume that a spare with a different size is suitable for every situation; ask the vehicle or tire professional to verify compatibility for your setup.
Set pressure from vehicle and tire guidance
Use the cold pressure specified on the vehicle’s tire placard or certification label as the starting reference—not the maximum pressure molded on the tire sidewall and not a visual judgment about how the tire looks. NHTSA defines a cold tire as one that has not been driven for at least three hours and says the manufacturer’s recommended pressure is the correct cold pressure shown on the placard or certification label.
If you are installing an approved replacement that requires a different pressure to carry its load, get the correct guidance from the vehicle and tire manufacturer and have the fitment verified. Do not improvise a pressure based on the tire’s sidewall maximum, a generic towing recommendation, or someone else’s truck. The correct pressure cannot be prescribed here without the F-350’s configuration and the exact replacement tire.

- Find the placard or certification label and record the recommended cold pressures for the front and rear tires.
- Confirm with the tire manufacturer or a qualified installer whether the exact replacement tire uses that pressure or requires verified alternative guidance for its load.
- Check pressure when the tires are cold, using a pressure gauge, before towing and before long trips.
- If you cannot establish the correct pressure for the selected tire and load, resolve that with the vehicle or tire manufacturer or installer before operating the truck under load.
A pressure gauge is a useful tool for carrying out that routine check. It can help you compare a cold reading with the verified guidance for your truck and tires, but it does not determine the right pressure on its own. The placard and manufacturer guidance remain the reference; neither a gauge nor a sidewall maximum can replace them.
Follow a practical selection sequence
- Identify the exact truck. Record model year, trim, SRW or DRW configuration, wheel diameter and width, placard tire size, and cold pressure. Note modifications and the size currently fitted.
- Describe the loaded use. Account for passengers, cargo, hitch hardware, and the trailer’s tongue or king-pin load. Obtain loaded front and rear axle weights where possible.
- Check the vehicle limits. Find the truck’s GVWR and axle ratings on the Safety Compliance Certification Label. Confirm that intended loads stay within the applicable ratings.
- Shortlist approved sizes. Use Ford or other applicable vehicle guidance to establish original-equipment or approved replacement sizes for this configuration. Have a qualified tire professional verify alternatives, especially if the wheels or suspension have changed.
- Check each candidate’s capacity. Use manufacturer load-and-inflation information to confirm capacity at the pressure applicable to the axle load. Do not rely on a load-range letter alone.
- Compare use characteristics. Among candidates that pass the fitment and capacity checks, compare tread suitability for your terrain, on-road noise and ride, expected wear, speed rating, and spare compatibility.
- Confirm before purchase and operation. Have the size, wheel fit, clearance, load capacity, pressure guidance, and speed rating checked. Set and check cold pressure according to the verified guidance.
This order prevents a tread preference or advertised size from distracting from the limiting requirements. If a candidate fails the size, fit, load, or vehicle-rating checks, remove it from consideration before comparing comfort or terrain suitability.

Bring the truck’s placard information, configuration, loaded-use details, and any modification history. Ask for specific answers rather than a general assurance that a tire is “for a one-ton truck.”
- Is this exact size approved for my model year, trim, wheel, and SRW or DRW configuration?
- What is this tire’s load capacity at the pressure appropriate for my front and rear axle loads?
- Does it preserve at least the original tire’s load-carrying capacity at the placard pressure, or is different verified pressure guidance required?
- Does the size fit the wheel and clear my truck as modified, and what is its applicable speed rating?
- Is my spare compatible with the installed tire size and drivetrain?
If the answer depends on an assumed load, pressure, wheel, or vehicle configuration, provide the missing information before approving the purchase. A recommendation cannot be certified from the F-350 model name alone.
What to shop for—and what not to assume
Once fitment and capacity are settled, a practical product to compare is an all-terrain light-truck tire in the exact verified F-350 size and load specification. Treat listings as candidates, not approvals: confirm the tire’s full size, load information, and speed rating against your truck and intended load. Ford’s 2026 sizes are examples for particular configurations, not a catalog of universal F-350 fitments. Before ordering, reconfirm the placard, truck configuration, wheel, and required load capacity with Ford guidance or a qualified installer.

There is no universal “best tire for towing and off-roading” answer in the model name alone, and there is no basis here for ranking specific tire models by measured performance. Choose among verified candidates by the requirements that actually apply to your F-350, then weigh terrain suitability against the road behavior you value. If a seller cannot establish the tire’s fit and capacity for your setup, pause rather than treating a general product description as confirmation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What tires are best for towing with an F-350?
Start with tires approved for your exact model year, trim, wheel, and SRW or DRW configuration. Among those, verify load capacity at the pressure appropriate to your loaded axle weights, and ensure the truck remains within GVWR and GAWR. The F-350 name alone is not enough to identify a best tire or permitted trailer weight.
Can I use all-terrain tires for towing and off-roading?
An all-terrain tire can be a category to compare for mixed paved and unpaved use, but the specific tire still has to meet fitment and load requirements. Assess its tread for the terrain you encounter and compare road noise, ride, and wear. The A/T label does not establish that one design is best for towing, mud, gravel, rock, and snow alike.
What size tires fit my F-350?
Use the driver’s door placard and owner’s manual, then verify the size against your model year, trim, wheel, and SRW or DRW setup. Ford’s 2026 examples include LT275/70R18E BSW A/T on certain SRW applications and LT285/75R18E BSW A/T for the Tremor 35-inch off-road tire. Those examples are not universal fitment approvals.

Do I need Load Range E tires?
Do not choose by the letter alone. Check the original-equipment requirement and compare the exact replacement tire’s load capacity at the pressure appropriate to your axle load. The 2026 Ford examples include E-rated tires, but they do not establish that every F-350 needs the same tire or that any E-rated tire is suitable.
What pressure should I use when towing?
Start with the cold pressure on the vehicle’s placard or certification label. NHTSA defines cold as not driven for at least three hours. If an approved replacement needs different verified pressure guidance to carry its load, obtain that from the vehicle and tire manufacturer or a qualified installer rather than guessing or using the sidewall maximum.
Can I install a larger tire on my F-350?
Do not assume a larger tire will fit or retain the same load and pressure requirements. Verify that the size is an approved option for your exact configuration, fits the wheel, clears the truck as equipped, and meets load and speed-rating requirements. Include any wheel or suspension changes and check spare compatibility.
The Bottom Line
Choose F-350 tires in this order: confirm the exact configuration and approved size, account for loaded axle weights and vehicle ratings, verify each tire’s capacity at the applicable pressure, then compare tread and road behavior for your terrain. The 2026 Ford sizes are configuration-specific examples, not universal recommendations. Use the placard, owner’s manual, Ford and tire-maker guidance, and a qualified tire professional to confirm the fit before buying or towing.
