The published SE prices are £27,495 for petrol, £30,495 for Hybrid+ and £33,495 for Plug-in Hybrid. MG states that Trophy models are £2,500 more than the equivalent SE. Because the announcement gives the premium rather than a separate quoted Trophy price, the Trophy figures in the table are arithmetic illustrations; verify the live price before ordering.
SE versus Trophy: what changes?
SE: the core specification
MG positions SE as the core MG HS specification. UK launch material lists LED headlights, rear parking sensors with a camera, electric driver-seat adjustment, keyless entry, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control and two 12.3-inch displays. The launch list is historical context rather than a promise that every item remains unchanged on every 2026 derivative, so ask for the current equipment sheet for the exact car.
SE makes the most sense when you mainly want the HS body, its standard driver-assistance and parking equipment, and a modern cabin without paying for luxury-oriented additions. It is also the logical trim for a buyer who would rather direct the £2,500 toward the powertrain, insurance, charging installation or running-cost contingency.
Trophy: comfort and convenience additions
The current Hybrid+ information describes Trophy as a more comfort-focused specification. Listed features include a panoramic sunroof, leather-style and suede-style upholstery, dual-zone climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, and an electric driver’s seat with lumbar adjustment and memory. Trophy also has a driving-mode selector in that material.
MG’s 2026 Hybrid+ update specifically says Trophy gains an opening panoramic sunroof and a power tailgate. Those are meaningful daily-use additions if you load the boot frequently, carry passengers who value rear-cabin light, or regularly adjust the driver’s seating position. They are less valuable if the car is normally parked in a low garage, you rarely use the tailgate, or you prefer a simpler roof with fewer moving parts.
Do not assume that every Trophy feature listed for Hybrid+ is standard on petrol or Plug-in Hybrid. Upholstery colours, option packs and individual equipment can vary by powertrain and model year. The written specification for your vehicle identification or order code takes priority over a general trim name.
How to value the £2,500 premium
Assess the premium feature by feature rather than treating Trophy as automatically superior. A useful test is whether you would pay £2,500 to add the features you will use, not whether the badge sounds more desirable.

Ask the retailer to confirm charging equipment, cable supply, battery warranty terms, boot-space implications and the exact electric-range figure for the model year you are ordering. Those details can differ between markets and updates.
A step-by-step method for choosing your MG HS
1. Confirm country, model year and vehicle status
- Check that you are looking at the UK range, not an overseas MG HS listing.
- Record the model year, powertrain, trim and any option packs on the quotation.
- Ask whether the vehicle is factory order, pre-registered or dealer stock; the price and included equipment may differ.

2. Decide how you will refuel or charge
- Write down where the car will normally be parked overnight.
- Mark whether a suitable home, workplace or public charger is available and affordable.
- List your normal weekday distance, longest regular journey and how often you take motorway trips.
- Reject Plug-in Hybrid if regular charging would be inconvenient rather than assuming you will start charging later.

- Highlight equipment that is standard on SE.
- Highlight the Trophy-only additions for that same powertrain.
- Mark each feature as “daily use”, “occasional use” or “not needed”.
Do not copy a Trophy equipment list from Hybrid+ onto a petrol or Plug-in Hybrid order without written confirmation.
4. Test the premium against your priorities
Use the £2,500 difference as a budget decision. For example, a driver who shares the vehicle and regularly changes seating position may place real value on memory and lumbar adjustment. A single driver who parks outdoors and never opens a sunroof may find SE sufficient. Neither conclusion is universal; the relevant question is how often you will use the feature and whether it would otherwise require an aftermarket compromise.
5. Verify the final build before paying a deposit
- Request the vehicle identification or factory build reference.
- Get the trim, powertrain, paint, upholstery, option packs and included accessories in writing.

Which MG HS trim fits common buyer profiles?
Lowest purchase price

Electrified driving without dependable charging

Trophy is easier to justify when a power tailgate, opening panoramic roof, dual-zone climate control and upgraded front seats will be used repeatedly. Check rear-seat comfort, child-seat access and the exact boot arrangement during a physical inspection; a trim list cannot answer those fit questions.

Trophy’s electric driver’s seat with lumbar adjustment and memory can be particularly useful when two people share the car. Confirm that the memory function is included on the exact derivative and understand which seat and mirror settings it stores.

MG Motor UK advertises a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating for the New MG HS. Treat that as a manufacturer claim tied to the tested vehicle and rating date, not as proof that every powertrain and model-year derivative has identical test applicability. Ask which exact model was assessed before using the rating to compare a different version.
MG product information identifies dual 12.3-inch displays. Confirm the current interface, smartphone compatibility, navigation provision, camera views and software functions on the car you will receive; screen size alone does not establish every connected-service feature.
Parking equipment deserves a practical check. SE launch information includes rear parking sensors and a camera, but you should confirm the current sensor layout, camera view and any additional assistance on the chosen derivative. During a test drive, check sight lines, steering effort, seat adjustment range and whether controls can be used without navigating distracting menus.
Costs beyond the list price
The £27,495, £30,495 and £33,495 figures are starting prices published by MG Motor UK in 2026. Your transaction price can change because of paint, options, finance structure, delivery charges, dealer stock, incentives and registration timing. Assuming one equipment list covers the whole range
It does not. Features shown on Hybrid+ Trophy may not be standard on petrol or Plug-in Hybrid. Solution: compare the written specification for the exact powertrain, trim and model year.
