Jaguar’s Type 01 is a future four-door electric grand tourer: the company expects orders to open in early 2027 and first customer deliveries in the second half of 2027. If you need a car before then, investigate an I-PACE in your market, checking its exact model year, battery condition, warranty and price. If you can wait, compare the Type 01’s final certified specifications and local pricing with competing luxury EVs before placing a deposit.
Do not choose on headline range alone. Home-charging access, rapid-charging routes, cabin comfort, local support and total ownership cost will determine whether a Jaguar electric car suits your life.

What Jaguar electric cars can you buy or plan for?
Type 01: the Jaguar to wait for
Jaguar unveiled Type 01 on 6 October 2026 as a luxury four-door GT and the first production Jaguar built on its dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture. Jaguar says orders are expected in early 2027, with first client deliveries anticipated in the second half of 2027. It is not available to order today. The timing follows Jaguar’s earlier statement that work on its production line was well advanced and that a new production car would be unveiled in the second half of financial year 2026/27. You can read the launch announcement at Jaguar’s Type 01 press release.
Jaguar’s published figures are targets and manufacturer claims, not independent road-test results. The final certified specification, price, equipment and market availability may differ.

| Type 01 information | Published figure or status | What it means for a buyer |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle format | Luxury four-door GT | Assess rear-seat access, luggage space, visibility and ride comfort in person when cars reach your market. |
| Battery | 118 kWh | A large pack can support long trips, but it also affects vehicle weight, efficiency and charging cost. |
| Electrical architecture | 850 volts | High-voltage hardware can support rapid charging, provided the vehicle and charging station both deliver the advertised power. |
| Anticipated range | Up to 400 miles EPA; up to 450 miles WLTP | These are different regional test cycles and are not one directly comparable number. Weather, speed, route, heating or air conditioning, load, wheels and battery condition will change the result. |
| Rapid charging claim | Up to 200 miles added in as little as 13 minutes with a 350 kW DC charger | This is a best-case manufacturer claim. Actual energy added depends on the charger, battery temperature, starting state of charge and the car’s charging curve. |
| Orders and deliveries | Orders expected early 2027; deliveries anticipated second half of 2027 | Confirm the schedule, allocation and local reservation rules with Jaguar before making a purchase decision. |
| Price and local specification | Not stated in the launch material | Do not assume that a price, tax treatment or standard equipment package has been announced for your country. |
Jaguar’s stated design goal is a balance of performance and comfort. Vehicle Engineering Director Matt Becker described the intended character as “performance and comfort – in perfect harmony.” That is an engineering objective, not an independent assessment. Treat the Type 01 as untested until you can inspect and drive a production-specification car.
I-PACE: the present-day Jaguar comparison
Jaguar UK’s current electric-car information lists the I-PACE with a 90 kWh battery and up to 292 miles of range. The same page warns that actual range varies with driving style, environmental conditions, vehicle load, wheel fitment, accessories, route and battery condition. Availability, model years and equipment differ by country, so a listing in one market does not establish supply in another. Start with Jaguar UK’s all-electric cars page, then verify the specific vehicle’s history and terms with a local retailer.
For the I-PACE battery, Jaguar UK states coverage of up to eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. “Up to” is important: confirm the in-service date, mileage, exclusions, state-of-health requirements and transferability for the exact car and market. A used I-PACE with little remaining warranty can be a very different financial proposition from a newer example.
Should you wait for the Type 01?
Wait if timing and uncertainty are acceptable
- You can keep your current vehicle through at least the anticipated second-half-2027 delivery window.
- You want Jaguar’s newest design and architecture rather than a currently available model.
- You are comfortable waiting for final range certification, pricing, connector details, equipment lists and local availability.
- You can place a refundable reservation, or otherwise protect yourself from specification or delivery changes.
Investigate an I-PACE or another EV sooner
- You need reliable transport before Type 01 deliveries are expected.
- Your local dealer has an I-PACE that passes a battery-health, accident-history and warranty check.
- A used or demonstrator vehicle fits your budget better than an unpriced future GT.
- You have identified charging stops for your regular journeys and do not want to plan around a future vehicle’s unconfirmed network compatibility.
Waiting is not automatically the cheaper or safer choice. Type 01 pricing, finance rates, insurance groups, service plans and depreciation were not stated in Jaguar’s launch material. Obtain written local figures before comparing monthly payments with an I-PACE or another luxury EV.
How much range will a Jaguar electric car deliver?
Read the test cycle correctly
Type 01’s anticipated “up to 400 miles EPA” and “up to 450 miles WLTP” figures describe different certification systems. EPA and WLTP results should not be placed in a single ranking as though they were measured under identical conditions. They are also maximum claims: a particular wheel option, trim, temperature or software version can produce a lower certified figure.

- WORKS WITH EVERY NON-TESLA EV: Standard J1772 connector plugs straight into Ford, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, Rivian, Lucid and every other EV or plug-in hybrid sold with a J1772 port - no adapter needed. Tesla drivers can charge too, using the J1772 adapter that comes with the car.
- PLUG IN, NO HARDWIRING: Level 2 charger delivers up to 40A to fully charge most EVs overnight. Plugs into a 240V, 4-prong NEMA 14-50 outlet (the RV/range type - NOT a dryer outlet) on a dedicated 50A circuit. The extra-long 25 ft cable easily reaches across a garage or driveway. Before ordering, check your car's port type and that you have the right outlet.
- CONTROL & SAVE FROM YOUR PHONE: A stronger built-in antenna keeps the charger online even in a garage or basement. Use the free app to start/stop charging, set speed (6-40A), get reminders, and track energy use and cost. Schedule off-peak overnight charging to cut your electric bill. Requires 2.4 GHz WiFi.
- SAFETY-CERTIFIED & WEATHERPROOF: Independently tested and certified (UL, ETL, FCC, Energy Star). A fully sealed IP66 / NEMA 4 housing stands up to rain, snow, heat and dust indoors or out, and internal steel shielding protects the electronics for years of reliable use.
- GLOW-IN-THE-DARK HOLSTER: The included high-visibility holster glows in the dark so you can find and dock the plug easily at night. Holds the connector securely when not in use.
The I-PACE’s “up to 292 miles” figure is likewise a maximum published value. Jaguar specifically identifies weather, speed-related driving style, payload, wheels, accessories, route and battery condition as variables. Use the certified number as a starting point, then plan around the distance you actually drive between charging opportunities.
Convert your routine into a range requirement
- List your longest normal day, including detours, school runs, airport trips or client visits.
- Mark reliable charging locations along that route, not merely destinations that appear on a map.
- Allow a reserve for cold weather, high motorway speeds, heavy luggage and cabin heating or cooling.
- Check whether you can charge at your destination or overnight before deciding that a larger battery is necessary.
- For a used I-PACE, ask for battery-health evidence and compare the car’s observed consumption with the official figure.
A luxury EV that comfortably covers your weekday driving with overnight charging can be more convenient than one with a higher laboratory range but poor access to dependable chargers on your regular routes.

Yes, Jaguar identifies professionally installed home charging as an option for its electric cars. Whether it is practical for you depends on parking rights, the electrical supply, installation permission, local regulations, connector compatibility and the charging rate supported by the vehicle and charger.
Check your home before buying equipment
- Parking: establish that you can park beside the property consistently. A cable across a public pavement may be unsafe or prohibited.
- Electrical capacity: have a qualified installer assess the consumer unit, cable route, earthing and available supply. Do not assume a domestic socket is suitable for routine high-load charging.
- Local standards: confirm the permitted installation method, protective devices, metering requirements and any building or landlord approvals.
- Connector: match the vehicle’s inlet and the charger’s cable or socket. Type 01’s final connector and home AC charging rate were not stated in the launch information, so do not buy equipment advertised as Type 01-compatible until Jaguar publishes those details for your market.
- Tariff: compare time-of-use electricity rates, standing charges and any demand fees. A low overnight rate can materially change running costs.
Plan public rapid charging as a backup, not a promise
Jaguar says charging speed and time vary with battery condition, temperature, current charge, the charging facility and how long the vehicle is connected. Type 01’s 200-mile-in-13-minutes statement applies to a 350 kW rapid DC charger and remains a manufacturer claim. A station rated below 350 kW, a cold battery or a high starting state of charge can make the stop longer.
Before choosing any Jaguar, drive through your likely public-charging corridors in a route-planning app and check the number of connectors, operating hours, payment method, accessibility, recent reliability reports and alternative sites. One broken or occupied station should not leave you stranded. Also verify that your preferred networks accept the vehicle’s connector and your payment method.

Evaluate Type 01’s luxury-GT brief in person
Jaguar positions Type 01 as a grand tourer that combines performance with refinement. That description should guide your inspection rather than substitute for it.
Cabin and practicality checklist
- Set the driver’s seat, steering wheel and mirrors; check sight lines at junctions and while parking.
- Test rear-seat entry with the front seats in your normal position. A dramatic roofline can affect headroom and door aperture.
- Place the luggage you actually carry in the boot. Check the loading lip, underfloor storage and split-fold seats.
- Use the infotainment, climate controls, cameras and driver-assistance settings without a salesperson’s help.
- Listen for tyre, wind and suspension noise on coarse pavement as well as smooth roads.
- Confirm that child seats, mobility equipment or a pet fit safely if relevant to your household.
Drive beyond a short showroom loop
Request enough time to experience stop-start traffic, a motorway, a rough surface and a tight parking area. Evaluate one-pedal driving, brake-pedal consistency, low-speed ride, high-speed stability and the ease of finding a charging stop. If Type 01 is not yet available for a test drive, treat every description of its ride or handling as an intention, not a verified result.

Build a five-year estimate for the exact car rather than relying on a lease advertisement or the battery size. Include:
- Transaction price, deposit, finance interest, lease fees and any local incentive.
- Home electricity at your actual tariff, plus public rapid-charging rates and idle fees.
- Insurance for your address and driver profile.
- Registration taxes, annual road charges and congestion or workplace fees where applicable.
- Scheduled servicing, software or connectivity subscriptions, tyres, brakes and roadside assistance.
- Expected depreciation, including the risk that a newer Jaguar architecture changes used values.
- Home-charger hardware, electrical upgrades and installation.
For an I-PACE, obtain a battery-health report, remaining warranty and service history before assigning a resale value. For Type 01, wait for an official local price and warranty schedule; no launch price was stated.

Questions to ask a Jaguar retailer
- Is this I-PACE new, used, demonstrator or pre-registered, and what is its exact model year and battery size?
- What is the battery’s measured state of health, and can you provide the diagnostic report?
- When did the battery warranty begin, what mileage remains, and which exclusions apply in this market?
- Can you show the complete service, accident and charging history?
- For Type 01, is the order window open in my country, or is this only an expression of interest?
- Which Type 01 range certification, connector and AC charging rate will apply locally?
- What happens to my deposit if specifications, price or delivery timing changes?
- Which workshop is trained and equipped for high-voltage repairs, and how is roadside recovery handled?
Practical decision paths
Choose Type 01 when your priority is the newest Jaguar experience
Wait for the early-2027 order process, verify the final specification and secure a delivery commitment that suits your schedule. Do not treat the announced 2027 timing as a guaranteed date until your market confirms it.
Choose an I-PACE when you need a Jaguar EV sooner
Search local stock, then select only a vehicle whose battery condition, remaining warranty, charging capability, history and price withstand a professional inspection. Its published 90 kWh and up-to-292-mile figures are useful reference points, not promises of identical real-world range.
Choose another luxury EV when the route or support network is better
A different car may be the better answer if it offers dependable charging on your routes, a feasible home installation, stronger local service coverage or a lower five-year cost. The badge matters less than whether the vehicle fits your parking, passengers, mileage and charging routine.
The most defensible Jaguar decision today is conditional: buy an inspected, properly warranted I-PACE if you need a car now; wait for Type 01 if you can accept an unpriced future order and want its new architecture; and in either case compare real charging access, comfort and ownership cost rather than relying on a single range headline.
