A used 718 Cayman GT4 RS should be called Manthey-equipped only when its VIN-linked Porsche or Manthey installation record matches the physical car. A Manthey decal, illuminated sill, single carbon part, or seller description is not proof of a complete kit. Porsche’s retrofit instructions say the components are precisely matched and must be installed together.
Verify the paperwork first, then have a Porsche Centre, Manthey installation partner, or qualified Porsche specialist inspect the coordinated aero, suspension, brakes, and underside. If the VIN history cannot be confirmed, describe the car as having visible Manthey parts rather than as a verified complete Manthey Kit.

What the GT4 RS Manthey Kit actually is
The Manthey Kit is a track-focused retrofit for the type 982 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS. It is a coordinated system rather than a cosmetic accessory package. Manthey’s component list includes a coilover kit, carbon-fibre aero discs for the rear wheels, brake-pad set, braided brake lines, flaps, carbon-fibre underbody, air-guide elements, a carbon rear wing with end plates, a rear-wing reinforcement plate, intake-mesh guard, tow lugs, door-sill trim, and a decal set. Carbon louvers and a Gurney are identified as optional, and some items are available separately.

That mix matters when inspecting a used car. A seller may legitimately have several Manthey-branded or Manthey-style parts without possessing a documented, complete retrofit. The core question is not “Does it look like a Manthey car?” but “Do the VIN records, specified configuration, and installed parts agree?”

Manthey’s current GT4 RS component page is useful for identifying the package’s named parts, but it is not a substitute for an installation record.

Why the model year or build sheet cannot prove it
Porsche introduced the GT4 RS Manthey Kit as an aftermarket retrofit, not as a factory model-year designation. Porsche announced the product in July 2023, with a European launch planned for December 2023 and other markets to follow. Porsche’s United States announcement on May 10, 2024 said American owners could order through authorized Porsche Centres, with US ordering beginning in summer 2024 and installation handled by those centres.
Consequently, a 2022, 2023, or later GT4 RS may be standard, partially modified, or retrofitted after delivery. The original window sticker, factory build sheet, or Weissach specification can establish the car’s original equipment, but not a later Manthey conversion. Look for a dated retrofit invoice or work order tied to the car’s VIN.

Do not begin with exterior photographs. Begin with records that identify the vehicle and the work performed.
- Request the original paperwork. Ask for the Porsche Centre or Manthey invoice, retrofit work order, installation date, itemized parts, and the VIN printed on the document. A generic parts receipt or undated email is weaker evidence than a formal installation record.
- Check who performed the work. Porsche stated that US kit orders and installation were handled by authorized Porsche Centres. For a car converted elsewhere, ask which Manthey installation partner performed the work and obtain that company’s documentation.
- Authorize a history check. Have the seller give written permission for a Porsche Centre or Manthey installation partner to check service and installation history against the VIN. The official materials do not describe a public, self-service VIN decoder, so a buyer should not assume that entering a VIN on a website will reveal the kit.
- Compare the document to the car. Record every listed part number, wheel type, front-axle-lift status, option, and replacement noted on the paperwork. Ask about any subsequent suspension, brake, accident, or underbody work.
A VIN match proves that a record belongs to the car; it does not by itself prove that every component remains installed. That is why the physical inspection is the second half of the verification.
Step 2: Match the documented configuration
Porsche’s installation bulletin identifies four type 982 kit part numbers. The correct number depends on two factory-car characteristics: whether the car has front-axle lift and whether it uses Weissach magnesium or aluminium wheels.

These numbers come from Porsche’s Cayman GT4 RS Manthey Kit: Installation and Conversion Instructions, dated March 20, 2024. Ask the inspector to confirm that the invoice’s part number makes sense for the car’s actual wheel and lift setup. A mismatch does not automatically prove fraud—wheels may have been changed—but it requires an explanation and supporting records.

For this reason, they must only be installed together on the vehicle.” Treat that instruction as a verification rule. Do not accept a claim that the car has “the kit” when the seller can document only a wing, springs, or a collection of separately bought parts.
Step 3: Inspect the coordinated exterior aero
The most accessible clues are outside the car, but they must be examined as a group.
Rear wing
Look for the carbon rear wing, its larger end plates, four-stage adjustment, and the reinforcement plate specified for the conversion. Photograph the wing from behind, above, and below, including fasteners and brackets. A visually similar aftermarket wing is not equivalent. The inspector should compare markings, mounting arrangement, and the invoice rather than judging shape alone.
Front and lower aero
Inspect the functional front aero pieces, flaps, air-guide elements, and the carbon-fibre underbody. The underside is difficult to photograph in a listing and easy to misrepresent, so put the car on a lift during a pre-purchase inspection. Check for cracked carbon, missing fasteners, non-matching hardware, impact damage, or fresh replacements that are absent from the records.
Rear-wheel aero discs
Carbon aero discs at the rear wheels are a recognizable feature of the package. Confirm that the discs are present on both sides and that they are correctly secured. Wheel changes, track damage, or replacement parts can alter what is fitted today; document the current condition and ask for invoices for any replacement.

Porsche describes the comprehensive changes to the functional aero parts as the kit’s visual signature in its July 13, 2023 announcement. That description supports looking for a coordinated aero system, not one dramatic component.
Step 4: Inspect suspension, brakes, and hidden installation details
Photos cannot reliably authenticate the coilover kit, spring rates, brake lines, or installation quality. Use a qualified Porsche or Manthey specialist and ask for a written report.
- Coilovers: identify the dampers and springs, inspect adjustment hardware, look for leaks or damaged threads, and note ride height and clearance. Confirm that the installed components correspond to the documented conversion.
- Braided brake lines: inspect routing, fittings, chafing, and evidence of replacement. A braided line that looks appropriate is not proof of Manthey provenance.
- Brake pads: measure remaining material and check service invoices. Pads are consumable and may have been replaced with another specification since the retrofit.
- Underbody installation: inspect mounting points, fasteners, alignment, and impact marks with the car safely lifted. A rechargeable inspection light can help illuminate the underside, but it cannot establish who supplied a part or whether the complete system was installed correctly.
- Front-axle lift and wheels: operate the lift, confirm that it functions without warning messages, and record the wheels currently fitted. The configuration must be reconciled with the kit number, even if the owner later changed wheels.
Ask the specialist to label each finding as present, missing, substituted, damaged, or not verifiable. This prevents a seller’s broad statement from being mistaken for a technical inspection.

Manthey identifies some parts as optional or separately available. A missing carbon louver, Gurney, tow lug, brake pad set, or door-sill trim should therefore be investigated in context rather than treated as an automatic disqualification. The invoice should show what was ordered, while the inspection should show what remains on the car.
Conversely, optional status does not make unrelated parts proof of the kit. A Gurney or decal can be purchased or removed independently. Ask the seller to state precisely whether the car has:
- a documented complete retrofit;
- a documented retrofit with consumables or optional pieces later changed;
- selected Manthey components installed separately; or
- only visual accessories with no installation record.
Put that description in the purchase paperwork. If the seller will not distinguish those categories, price and insure the car as an unverified modification rather than relying on the word “Manthey.”

What the performance figures do—and do not—tell you
Manufacturer-reported performance figures explain why buyers care about the kit, but they cannot authenticate an individual used car. Porsche reported that Jörg Bergmeister drove a kit-equipped 718 Cayman GT4 RS around the 20.8-kilometre Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7:03.121 minutes in 2023, 6.179 seconds faster than the standard car’s prior-year run. Both cars used optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres, and Porsche said a notary certified the lap time.

Porsche Cars North America’s 2024 announcement stated total downforce of 196 lb for the standard car and 372 lb for the kit-equipped car at approximately 124 mph with the rear wing in Performance position. Porsche’s European announcement expressed the comparison as 89 kg versus 169 kg at 200 km/h in Performance setting. Porsche also reported front spring rates 20 percent higher.
Those are controlled, manufacturer-reported track figures. They do not show that a particular car has the kit, that its alignment is correct, or that its current tyres and setup match the test car. Do not use a claimed lap time, dyno result, or seller’s track story as a substitute for VIN records and inspection.

- Before travelling: obtain the VIN, scan every page of the retrofit invoice, and ask for photographs of the underbody, wing mounts, rear aero discs, suspension, and brake lines.
- Before making an offer: compare the stated kit part number with wheel and front-axle-lift equipment. Ask the seller to authorize a Porsche history check.
- At the inspection: use a Porsche or Manthey-experienced technician, place the car on a lift, and photograph each relevant component.
- During reconciliation: mark each item on the invoice as present and matching, present but changed, missing, substituted, damaged, or undocumented.
- Before signing: make the purchase contract identify the car as either a documented Manthey retrofit or an unverified car with specified visible parts. Include any agreed repairs and replacement documentation.

Common mistakes that lead buyers astray
Using a decal as authentication
Decals are easy to add, remove, or replace. They establish appearance, not installation history.
Assuming one carbon part means the full package
Carbon aero discs, a wing, or an underbody panel may be genuine and still have been bought separately. Porsche’s matched-system instruction makes the complete configuration important.
Confusing factory Weissach equipment with the retrofit
Weissach magnesium wheels affect which retrofit part number applies, but the original Weissach specification does not prove that a Manthey conversion was later installed.

Skipping the lift inspection
The most consequential evidence includes underside aero, suspension, lines, and mounting hardware. A walk-around cannot verify those areas.
Assuming a missing optional part invalidates everything
Optional louvers, Gurney, tow lugs, and other separately available items must be checked against the invoice and current configuration, not judged in isolation.
Bottom line for a used GT4 RS buyer
Call the car Manthey-equipped only when three things agree: a VIN-linked Porsche or Manthey installation record, a kit part number that fits the car’s wheel and front-axle-lift configuration, and a specialist inspection confirming the coordinated aero, coilover, brake, and underbody components. The car’s model year, factory build sheet, decal, or single carbon component cannot establish a later retrofit. When the records are absent or the physical car does not reconcile with them, describe the vehicle narrowly and negotiate on the evidence you can verify.

Is there a public VIN decoder that confirms a GT4 RS Manthey Kit?
The official materials do not identify a public self-service lookup. Ask the seller to authorize a Porsche Centre or Manthey installation partner to check installation and service history against the VIN.
Can a car have genuine Manthey parts without having the complete kit?
Yes. Manthey lists some items as optional or separately available, and individual components can be replaced or installed independently. Require an itemized, VIN-linked installation record before calling it a complete kit.
Does the absence of a Gurney or carbon louver prove the kit is incomplete?
No. Those items are identified as optional. Compare the original invoice and current component inspection instead of using one optional part as the deciding test.
