Check from the vehicle’s infotainment screen: open Settings > Software Update and follow the on-screen check. Use the vehicle’s Software Update menu first
The built-in infotainment menu is the dependable way to ask whether your Jaguar EV has an update available. A manual check is immediate and does not require you to wait for a notification. How to check manually
Touch Pro vehicles
- Switch on the vehicle and open the infotainment system.
- Select Settings.
- Open All Settings.
- Select Software update.
- Choose Check for update.
- Read the result and any installation instructions shown on screen.
This exact path is documented for Jaguar Touch Pro. Jaguar uses different infotainment systems across its range, so another system may show slightly different wording or place the function elsewhere. If your screen does not match these labels, use the software-update entry visible in your system’s Settings menu rather than assuming the vehicle is unsupported.
Menu capitalization can also vary. You may see “Software Update,” “Software updates,” or “Check for an Update.” Look for the function, not an exact combination of upper- and lower-case letters. If the entry is nested under system information or connectivity settings, follow the on-screen owner guidance for that system.
Other Jaguar infotainment systems
For a system other than Touch Pro, begin at Settings and look for Software Update or Software updates. Open the section and select the on-screen check command, such as Check for an Update. The vehicle may ask you to review terms, enable updates or connect to a network before it can complete the check.

Do not use a map-update procedure as a substitute for a vehicle-software check. Jaguar’s map-update and physical-media processes concern navigation data and are separate from the infotainment, telematics and battery-control software discussed here. A USB or DVD map package therefore cannot be used to infer whether an OTA firmware release is available.
How Jaguar’s update notification works
Jaguar’s official FAQ says that when an update is available, the infotainment system can show a pop-up notification for all types of update. This is the easiest route because it requires no menu navigation. Select the notification and read the details before accepting anything.
If you dismissed or skipped the pop-up, return to the Software Updates section and use Check for an Update. A missed notification does not by itself mean that the update has expired. The manual check is useful after a notification was cleared, when the vehicle has recently regained connectivity, or when you want to check before a trip.
Notifications still depend on the vehicle being eligible and connected. Jaguar’s cited FAQ notes that infotainment notifications require a working SIM. A silent screen is therefore not conclusive evidence that no release exists: the car may be offline, its SIM may not be working, or that vehicle may not support the relevant OTA function.

The two methods do not represent two different update catalogs. They query the same vehicle-specific availability through different user actions. A manual check is more immediate; a pop-up is more convenient. Neither overrides market restrictions, system compatibility or a missing connection.
What a Jaguar EV update can change
An update is not necessarily an infotainment-only patch. Jaguar’s guidance identifies three broad areas that may be updated:
- Infotainment: the screen interface and related functions.
- Telematics: connected-vehicle communication systems.
- Battery Energy Control Module: software that manages battery-energy functions in electric vehicles.
Because these systems have different roles, installation conditions and vehicle downtime can differ. The check screen should tell you which update type is being offered; read that information rather than assuming every update behaves like an infotainment patch.

A battery-control update is especially significant for an EV because it can involve software responsible for battery-energy management. That label does not mean the physical battery is being replaced. It identifies the control-module software package, and Jaguar’s instructions for that package can impose different installation restrictions from an infotainment update.

Likewise, a telematics update concerns communications hardware or software used by connected services. It should not be confused with an app update on your phone. The vehicle’s own status and prompts determine whether the car can be used during installation.
Confirm connectivity and update permissions
The car needs a working data connection to retrieve update information or download an OTA package. Jaguar says the infotainment connection can use the vehicle’s Wi-Fi connection or its built-in vehicle SIM. A phone hotspot may also provide the connection, but your mobile provider could charge for the data used.
Telematics and battery-related updates use the connected-vehicle service in markets where that service is enabled. If the vehicle cannot establish the required connection, the update menu may show no package even when you expected one.
Before checking or downloading, verify the following:

- Software updates are enabled in the vehicle’s settings.
- Any required terms and conditions have been accepted.
- The vehicle has an active Wi-Fi, vehicle-SIM or permitted hotspot connection.
- The vehicle’s connected service is active where telematics or battery updates require it.
- The vehicle is parked safely, with enough time available for the process.
Jaguar’s cited guidance notes that infotainment notifications require a working SIM. If the notification never appears, connection status and SIM operation are therefore among the first items to check.
Do not assume that a phone paired by Bluetooth supplies the data connection needed for an OTA download. A hotspot can provide data when the vehicle permits it, but it is distinct from ordinary hands-free or media pairing. Check the connection indicator shown by the vehicle rather than relying on the phone’s Bluetooth status.
Keep the chosen connection stable. Moving out of Wi-Fi range, disabling the hotspot, or losing cellular service during a download can interrupt the process. If the download stops, reconnect first and rerun the vehicle’s check or resume command instead of repeatedly switching between networks while an installation is active.
What to do when an update is offered
Read the package information
The vehicle should present the available update and the action required. Review the description, any terms and the estimated installation conditions. If the screen identifies a telematics or Battery Energy Control Module update, plan for the longer vehicle-unavailable period described below.
Note whether the screen offers download now, install later, or another scheduling choice. The available choices are vehicle- and package-specific, so do not infer that a control-module update can always be postponed or that every update can be installed while driving. Accept only after you understand the prompt and have enough time to leave the car undisturbed.

Prepare the vehicle
- Park in a secure place where the vehicle can remain undisturbed.
- Maintain the required Wi-Fi or cellular connection during download and installation.
- Unplug the EV before installation, following Jaguar’s general guidance.
- Close the vehicle, lock it and leave the alarm armed when the prompts instruct you to do so.
- Do not start driving, disconnect the power source or interrupt the process while the vehicle is installing software.
The exact sequence can vary by update and vehicle. Follow the prompts on your own screen if they differ from this general preparation.
Unplugging is a specific precaution for the EV installation process, not a suggestion to disconnect the vehicle from its data network. Keep the required Wi-Fi or cellular connection available while observing the lock, alarm and charging instructions shown on screen.
Allow for possible downtime
Jaguar says an infotainment update may leave the vehicle usable during installation. Telematics and Battery Energy Control Module updates can make the vehicle unusable for up to 35 minutes, according to Jaguar’s current owner guidance. Treat that as a possible maximum stated by Jaguar, not as a guaranteed duration for every vehicle or release.
Do not schedule a battery-control or telematics installation immediately before a journey. Wait until the car confirms completion and the infotainment system has returned to normal operation. If the vehicle remains unavailable beyond the stated window, do not keep trying to drive it; contact Jaguar support or an authorised retailer.
Even when an infotainment update normally leaves the vehicle usable, functions can restart or be temporarily unavailable. Follow the screen’s completion message before assuming navigation, connected services or other features have returned to their normal state.
If no update is found
A “no update available” result is not, by itself, evidence of a fault. It can simply mean that Jaguar has not released an eligible package for your vehicle, system or market, or that the current software is already the latest version offered to that vehicle.
Use this order of checks:
- Run the check again from the vehicle’s Software Update menu.
- Confirm that software updates are enabled and that required terms have been accepted.
- Check the vehicle’s Wi-Fi, SIM or hotspot connection.
- If you expected a pop-up, verify that the vehicle’s SIM is working; Jaguar identifies a functioning SIM as a requirement for infotainment update notifications in its FAQ.
- Confirm that your vehicle’s system supports OTA updates. Jaguar states that not every vehicle can be updated over the air.
- Check the owner guidance for your exact model, model year and market because menu labels and eligibility differ.
Give the system a meaningful connection before repeating the check. A disconnected hotspot or inactive connected service can produce the same practical result as having no eligible package, even though the causes are different.
If the Software Update setting is missing, the connection repeatedly fails or the vehicle reports an installation error, Jaguar directs owners to its customer-relations centre or a local Jaguar retailer for vehicle-specific help.
Why one Jaguar EV can have an update when another does not
Update availability is controlled by more than the vehicle being electric. The following variables can change the result:
- Infotainment system: Touch Pro and other systems do not necessarily expose the same menu or OTA functions.
- Vehicle configuration: Telematics and battery-control software applies only where the relevant hardware and software are installed.
- Market: Connected services, cellular support and release schedules vary by country or region.
- Eligibility: Jaguar may release a package only to particular vehicle versions or software baselines.
- Connectivity: A car without the required SIM, service or network connection may not receive a notification or download.
For example, Jaguar’s India-market guidance says Touch Pro infotainment eligibility requires version 18B or above. That threshold belongs to the cited India guidance and should not be treated as a universal requirement for every Jaguar EV or every market.

That 18B threshold is an eligibility detail for the cited Touch Pro guidance, not a promise that installing version 18B will make every Jaguar eligible for every later package. Check the software version and market-specific instructions for your own vehicle before comparing it with another owner’s result.

How to distinguish a software update from a connected-app issue
The Jaguar Remote App is a separate connected service, with its own account and subscription requirements. The available guidance does not establish the app as the tool for checking update availability. Use the vehicle’s infotainment Software Update menu for that task.
If the app shows a connection problem, that may indicate a connected-service issue, but it does not prove that the car has an available firmware update or that an update is failing. Check the in-car menu before treating an app status as an update result.
Similarly, an app working normally does not prove that the car has received the latest telematics or battery-control software. App access and vehicle firmware eligibility are related connected services, but they are not the same check.
When to contact Jaguar support
Contact Jaguar customer relations or an authorised local retailer when:
- The Software Update option is absent from a vehicle that you believe should support OTA updates.
- The vehicle cannot connect through its SIM, Wi-Fi or permitted hotspot.

Explain whether the problem affects a pop-up, a manual check, a download or the installation itself. Those are different stages, and identifying the stage can prevent support from treating a simple notification issue as a failed firmware installation.

- Confirm update permissions, terms and the required network connection.
