Use Tesla’s official store locator to identify the showroom nearest your destination, then open that location’s demo-drive or appointment link to see the options currently offered. If you want to drive a Tesla, schedule ahead: Tesla says demo-drive appointments are limited, although a walk-in can sometimes be accommodated. A showroom visit and a demo drive are not the same thing, so confirm the exact visit type, location, date and time before you travel.
Tesla’s public pages do not establish one appointment rule, live opening-hours database or guaranteed inventory for every showroom. The selected location’s listing and booking flow are the authoritative checks for your trip.

What “availability” means for a Tesla visit
Before opening the booking page, decide what you need from the visit. “Showroom availability” can mean several different things:

- A staffed demo drive: a scheduled drive with an advisor and a vehicle assigned through Tesla’s booking system.
- A self-serve demo drive: a drive at selected locations that uses the Tesla app for identity verification and vehicle access.
Tesla’s reviewed support guidance addresses demo-drive scheduling. It does not say that every showroom-only visit requires an appointment, and it does not promise that a walk-in will be admitted at a particular store. Treat a showroom visit and a demo drive as separate plans unless the location’s current instructions combine them.

Find the correct Tesla showroom listing
1. Open Tesla’s official store locator
Start with Tesla’s US Tesla Stores and Galleries directory if you are checking a US location. The directory lists store addresses and, where available, a “Schedule a Demo Drive” link. Tesla uses different regional pages, so select the country or market that matches the trip rather than assuming that US rules apply elsewhere.
2. Search by the destination, not only your home address
Choose the location closest to where you will actually be on the day. A store that appears nearby on a general map may not be the location offering the drive type you want. Open the individual listing and verify:
- the complete street address and city;
- whether the entry is a store, gallery or another Tesla location;
- whether a demo-drive link is present;
- the drive type shown in the booking flow; and
- any location-specific instructions displayed before confirmation.
The locator is the right starting point, but it is not a guarantee that a vehicle, advisor or time slot will be available when you arrive. Availability changes by location and date.
3. Keep the listing open while you book
Do not rely on a search-result snippet or an old map listing. Keep the official location page open and follow its current booking link. If the link is missing, the location may not offer the selected demo-drive service, or Tesla may direct you to another nearby site. The absence of a link is not proof that the showroom is closed; it means the locator is not presenting that booking option for that entry.
Book a staffed standard demo drive
For a conventional test drive with Tesla staff, use Tesla’s Demo Drive page and continue to the booking flow for your market.

- Select a location. Choose the showroom or demo-drive site that is practical for your route. If several locations appear, compare the actual addresses before selecting one.
- Choose a date and time. The booking interface shows the inventory of selectable appointments for the location at the time you search. A blank or unavailable calendar means that the system is not offering a slot for that selection; it is not a promise that the location will never have one.
- Select the available drive type or vehicle option. The choices shown are location-specific. Do not assume that a model or drive format offered at one site is offered at another.
- Enter the requested contact details and submit. Review the location, date, time and drive type before completing the request.
- Wait for Tesla’s confirmation process. Tesla says an advisor will contact you before a standard demo-drive appointment to confirm it. Until that contact or the confirmation shown in Tesla’s flow, treat the request as pending rather than guaranteed.
Tesla states that demo-drive appointments are limited and encourages advance scheduling, while noting that some walk-ins can sometimes be accommodated. That statement applies to demo drives; it is not a blanket reservation requirement for every showroom-only visit.
How much time to allow
Tesla describes a standard demo drive as approximately 30 minutes and recommends arriving 10 minutes early. Those timings belong to the demo-drive appointment. They should not be used to estimate how long an unscheduled showroom visit will take, because Tesla does not publish one universal duration for showroom browsing or conversations with staff.
Check self-serve demo-drive availability
If a staffed appointment is inconvenient, look for Tesla’s self-serve option. Tesla’s Self-Serve Demo Drive guidance says this service is available only at selected locations.
Identify a genuine self-serve location
In the booking choices, select a location whose name includes “Self-Serve Demo Drive.” A normal store listing is not automatically a self-serve site. If the label does not appear, do not assume that app-based access will work there.
Understand the app-based process
Tesla says a self-serve drive uses the Tesla app for identity verification and access to the vehicle. The appointment details in the app provide options to reschedule or cancel. Install or update the app before traveling, sign in with the account used for the booking, and make sure the phone you bring is the one you can use for the appointment. Tesla’s page describes the US process; eligibility, app behavior and local instructions can differ in other markets.

Check eligibility before you depend on self-serve access
The US guidance reviewed for this article requires a driver to be at least 21 and to have a valid driver’s license. Those are US requirements stated for that self-serve program, not a universal rule for every country. Read the eligibility language shown in your own booking flow and bring the required license or identification.

This comparison is a planning aid, not a promise that every market displays all three choices. Tesla’s own booking flow for the selected country and location controls what you can actually reserve.
What to verify before you leave
After selecting a time, perform a second check. This prevents the most common mistake: traveling to a showroom while holding a booking for a different site or service.
- Address: Compare the confirmation address with your route and parking plan.
- Visit type: Confirm whether the booking is a staffed demo drive, a self-serve drive or another appointment.
- Date and local time: Check the time zone if you are crossing a state, provincial or national boundary.
- Confirmation status: For a staffed drive, look for Tesla’s confirmation or advisor contact; a submitted request is not the same as a guaranteed appointment.
- Required documents: For self-serve drives, review the stated license and age requirements. Bring the physical or digital documentation the local instructions accept.
- Phone access: For self-serve access, ensure the Tesla app is installed, signed in and able to connect.
- Arrival time: For a standard demo drive, plan to arrive 10 minutes early, as Tesla recommends.
- Cancellation or rescheduling: Self-serve appointment details in the app include options to reschedule or cancel. Use those controls if your plans change rather than simply missing the slot.
How to handle “no availability”
No time slots appear
First confirm that you selected the intended location and drive type. Then try another date or a nearby listing in Tesla’s locator. A full calendar reflects the options currently released in the booking flow; it does not establish that the entire showroom is unavailable for every purpose.
The location has no demo-drive link
Use the listing’s address and contact or visit information, if provided, to determine whether you are planning a showroom-only stop. Tesla’s US directory shows demo-drive links where offered, so a missing link means that this particular listing is not presenting that option. Do not substitute a different store without checking its address and available service.

You need a drive on a fixed travel date
Book as soon as your itinerary is firm because Tesla says appointments are limited. If the exact date is full, check nearby locations and self-serve listings, but verify that the alternate location is genuinely convenient and that you meet its displayed eligibility conditions.
You are considering a walk-in
A walk-in is a fallback, not a plan. Tesla says it can sometimes accommodate walk-ins for demo drives, but the same statement says appointments are limited. A walk-in may fail when vehicles, advisors or time are already committed. If driving is important to the trip, obtain a scheduled confirmation instead.

Several details are intentionally location-specific and should not be inferred from a general support page:
- live opening hours for every showroom;
- the number of vehicles on display at a particular location;
- which model will be available for a selected appointment;
- the number of same-day walk-in spaces;
- a universal appointment rule for showroom-only visits; and
- US self-serve age or license requirements as worldwide requirements.
When one of these details matters, use the selected store listing and booking flow for the current information. If the page does not state it, treat it as unconfirmed rather than filling the gap with assumptions from another Tesla location.
A practical booking checklist
- Open Tesla’s official store locator for the country where you will visit.
- Identify the nearest practical store and copy its exact address into your travel plan.
- Decide whether you need a showroom stop, a staffed demo drive or a self-serve demo drive.
- Follow the location’s current demo-drive link, or use Tesla’s Demo Drive page for the staffed booking flow.
- Select the location, date, time and drive type displayed as available.
- Read the confirmation details and wait for the advisor’s contact when booking a standard drive.
- If choosing self-serve, confirm that the location name includes “Self-Serve Demo Drive,” then check the local age, license and app requirements.
- Save the address, appointment time and confirmation where you can reach them offline.
- Arrive 10 minutes early for a standard demo drive; follow the app instructions for a self-serve appointment.
- If the slot disappears or your plans change, use the booking flow or app to reschedule, cancel or select another location rather than assuming a walk-in will work.
Frequently encountered planning mistakes
Confusing a gallery or showroom with a drive site
A location can appear in the store directory without showing the same drive options as another location. Check the actual listing and booking choices instead of assuming that every Tesla retail site offers test drives.

Assuming a pending request is confirmed
Tesla says an advisor will contact you before a standard demo-drive appointment. Keep the booking details available and do not treat an unconfirmed request as final when arranging a long trip.
Applying self-serve rules everywhere
The reviewed self-serve instructions are US guidance for selected locations. Confirm the rules presented for your market, including age, license and app requirements.
Using general hours as a guarantee
A general support page cannot establish live hours for every store. Verify the selected location shortly before leaving, especially when the visit is outside normal weekday travel.

When to contact Tesla before traveling
Contact Tesla through the location or booking channel shown for your selected site when the booking page leaves a material question unanswered—for example, whether a showroom-only visit can be accommodated, whether an accessibility arrangement is available, or whether the confirmation has been finalized. Give the representative the exact location, date, time and visit type. That avoids a generic answer about a different store or a different kind of appointment.
For a drive, the safest sequence is to reserve through Tesla’s current flow, wait for the confirmation step Tesla describes, and keep the location-specific details with you. For a showroom-only stop, use the locator to identify the site, then verify its current instructions before setting out; Tesla’s reviewed pages do not turn that type of visit into a universal appointment booking.
