A lithium-ion/NMC Knight has a detachable battery that can be charged indoors from a regular household socket. A lead-acid Knight has a fixed battery and must be charged by plugging the scooter into a standard 5A socket. Because the Knight is sold with both 48V and 60V systems, use the supplied charger and verify the exact voltage, chemistry and connector before connecting anything.
Identify your Knight before connecting a charger
The charging method is not the same across every Zelo Knight. Start with the purchase paperwork, the battery label or the charger label. Look for two details:

- Battery chemistry: lithium-ion/NMC or lead-acid.
- System voltage: 48V or 60V. Zelo lists both specifications for the Knight range.
If the labels are missing, unreadable or contradictory, do not guess from the scooter’s appearance. Contact Zelo or an authorised dealer and have the model and serial details ready. A charger that looks similar can still be electrically incompatible.

The two time figures are not contradictory. The 3–4-hour figure is the Knight FAQ’s approximate estimate for lithium variants, while the 3–5-hour figure is a broader Zelo estimate covering models and power conditions. Treat them as planning ranges, not a guaranteed timer.

Prepare a safe charging area
Choose a stable, dry, well-ventilated location close to the correct outlet. Keep the charger and its cable away from water, heat sources, vehicle traffic and anything that could crush or snag the cable. The battery or scooter should stand where it will not be knocked over while charging.
- Use the charger supplied for your Knight whenever it is available.
- Check the charger casing, plug, cable and connectors for cuts, crushed sections, loose parts or signs of overheating before use.
- Make sure the outlet is intact and appropriate for the charging method specified for your variant.
- Keep combustible items clear of the battery and charger.
- Do not cover the charger while it is operating.
These checks do not change the Knight’s electrical specification; they simply prevent a damaged lead, unsuitable outlet or unstable location from becoming part of the charging setup.
How to charge a lithium-ion/NMC Zelo Knight
1. Confirm the battery and charger labels
Verify that the scooter is the lithium-ion/NMC version and note whether its system is 48V or 60V. Match the supplied charger to that specification. Do not substitute a charger solely because its plug fits.

Zelo describes lithium-ion variants as detachable and portable. Remove the battery using the scooter’s intended release method; do not force a latch, pull on wires or open the battery housing. If it does not release normally, stop and ask Zelo or a dealer for the model-specific procedure.
3. Place the battery in the charging location
Set the battery on a stable, dry surface where the connector and charger can remain clear. Keep it away from moisture, direct heat and materials that could obstruct ventilation. Do not charge a battery with a visibly damaged case, connector or cable.

4. Connect the supplied charger
Connect the charger to the battery exactly as indicated by the charger and scooter documentation. Once the battery connection is secure, plug the charger into a regular household power socket. Zelo’s description compares this arrangement to charging a mobile phone at home or in an office, but the Knight still requires its own correctly matched charger.
5. Allow the normal charging period
Plan for approximately 3–4 hours for a lithium-ion Knight according to the Knight FAQ. Zelo’s general information gives an approximately 3–5-hour range across its lithium models and notes that actual time varies with the model and power-supply conditions. A longer or shorter session by itself does not identify the cause of a problem; investigate only if the behavior is clearly abnormal for your unit or the charger indicates a fault.

When the charger indicates completion according to its instructions, disconnect it using the normal connector and plug procedure. Refit the battery to the scooter only through the designed mounting system, and make sure it is secured before riding. If the charger, connector or battery becomes unusually hot, smells of burning or shows damage, stop using it and arrange support rather than continuing the session.
How to charge a lead-acid Zelo Knight
1. Keep the battery installed
On the lead-acid version, the battery is fixed in the scooter. Do not attempt to remove it for indoor charging and do not connect a portable lithium-battery charger to the scooter.
2. Position the scooter near the correct outlet
Park the scooter on a stable, dry surface with enough room to keep the cable away from wheels and walkways. Confirm that the outlet is a standard 5A socket, as specified by Zelo for the lead-acid Knight.

3. Plug the scooter directly into the 5A socket
Zelo’s lead-acid instruction is to charge by plugging the scooter directly into a standard 5A socket. Use the supplied charger and the scooter’s intended charging connection. Do not improvise with a different-voltage charger, a connector adapter or a generic universal unit.

4. Allow about eight hours
The Knight FAQ gives an approximate charging time of around 8 hours for lead-acid variants. Use that as a planning estimate rather than an exact cutoff, because the supplied material does not establish a single time for every battery condition or power situation.
5. Finish the session before moving the scooter
Once charging is complete according to the charger instructions, disconnect the scooter normally and store the cable so it cannot be caught by a wheel. If the charger or socket is damaged, stop using the setup and contact Zelo or an authorised dealer.
Why a universal electric-scooter charger is not a safe shortcut
The Knight range includes more than one battery chemistry and more than one voltage. A lithium-ion/NMC battery and a lead-acid battery require different charging arrangements, and the listed Knight systems include both 48V and 60V specifications. Connector shape alone does not prove compatibility.

- The exact Knight variant and battery chemistry.
- The battery’s rated voltage: 48V or 60V as applicable to your scooter.
- The charger output specification approved for that battery.
- The connector type and polarity.
- Whether the replacement is approved for the scooter’s charging arrangement.
No universal replacement part number is established in the available Knight material. If you cannot verify every item, do not connect the replacement charger. Ask Zelo for the correct part or use its authorised dealer and service channels.
Charging schedule and practical planning
Lithium-ion/NMC
Set aside roughly four hours for the Knight’s stated 3–4-hour estimate. If your model or power conditions place it toward Zelo’s broader 3–5-hour range, allow the extra time rather than unplugging early and assuming the battery is full.
Lead-acid
Plan an overnight or otherwise uninterrupted session of approximately eight hours. Because the battery remains in the scooter, place the scooter where it can stay safely parked for the whole period and where the cable will not create a trip hazard.
When the estimate does not match your experience
Check the battery chemistry and voltage first, then confirm that you are using the supplied charger and the correct socket method. A mistaken assumption about the variant can explain both an unexpectedly long session and a charger that does not fit. If the setup is correct but charging behavior remains abnormal, stop and request model-specific support.
Safety checks before every session
- Variant: lithium-ion/NMC or lead-acid is confirmed.
- Voltage: the charger and battery labels agree with the Knight’s 48V or 60V system.
- Hardware: the casing, cable, plug and connector are intact.
- Socket: a regular household socket is used for the detachable lithium battery, or a standard 5A socket is used for the lead-acid scooter connection.
- Location: the charging area is dry, stable and clear of heat and combustible clutter.
- Connection: the battery is removed only if it is the detachable lithium variant, and the lead-acid battery remains installed.
- Supervision: you can respond if the charger or battery shows damage, unusual heat or an abnormal smell.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The battery cannot be removed
That may indicate a fixed lead-acid variant, or it may mean the lithium battery is not being released through the intended mechanism. Check the paperwork and labels. Do not pry it out or pull on cables. Ask Zelo or an authorised dealer for the correct procedure.

The charger plug fits, but the voltage is unclear
Do not charge. The Knight is listed with both 48V and 60V systems, so a physical fit is not enough. Confirm the voltage and approved charger specification from the labels or Zelo support.
You are unsure whether the outlet is correct
For a lithium-ion/NMC battery, Zelo specifies a regular household socket for the detached battery charger. For a lead-acid Knight, Zelo specifies a standard 5A socket with the scooter plugged directly into it. If your outlet does not match that description, stop and obtain model-specific guidance.
Charging takes much longer than expected
First verify the variant, voltage, charger and socket method. Compare the session with the appropriate approximate range: 3–4 hours for lithium in the Knight FAQ, up to the broader 3–5-hour Zelo estimate, or around 8 hours for lead-acid. If those checks do not explain the result, stop using questionable hardware and contact support.
The charger or connector is damaged
Disconnect it safely if possible and do not tape, splice or adapt the cable as a substitute for an approved repair. Request a replacement through Zelo or an authorised dealer, providing the exact Knight variant and voltage.
When to contact Zelo or a dealer
Use Zelo’s support or dealer route when the battery label is missing, the charger has been lost or damaged, the connector does not match, the voltage is uncertain, or the charging time and behavior remain abnormal after the basic checks. Provide photographs of the battery and charger labels, the Knight model information and a description of the socket and connection you attempted. This gives the service team the information needed to identify the correct charger without relying on appearance alone.
The available Knight information does not establish a universal replacement charger, an independent safety-test result or a model-wide fire-incident rate. For that reason, the safest decision is the conservative one: use the supplied, correctly matched equipment and obtain confirmation before replacing any part.
