What you need before plugging in
A safe charge begins with the circuit and location, not with the scooter. Gather the original charger, the scooter’s current manual and access to a socket that matches the charger’s stated requirements. If you cannot identify the charger supplied for the vehicle, stop and ask the manufacturer or an authorised service point rather than testing a convenient adapter.

- Choose the location. Park indoors or under a fully protected, dry roof in a well-ventilated area. The floor and wall around the outlet should remain dry throughout the charge. Do not charge beside petrol, kerosene, welding work, solvents or other sources of potentially explosive vapour.
- Stabilise and switch off the scooter. Park securely, keep the scooter stationary and turn it off before connecting the charger. Do not begin with the vehicle powered on.
- Inspect every component. Check the charger plug, cable insulation, connector, strain relief and scooter charging port. Check that the wall socket is firm and shows no scorching, cracking or looseness. Do not use damaged equipment, and do not attempt a temporary repair with tape.

- Connect to the wall first. Insert the charger’s mains plug fully into the wall socket while the scooter remains switched off. Ather’s published connection order is wall first, then scooter.
- Connect to the scooter. Firmly insert the charging handle into the scooter port until it is properly seated or clicks as designed. A loose connection can heat up or interrupt charging; never force a connector that does not fit.
- Energise the socket only after the connection is secure. If the outlet has a switch, turn it on after the plug is fully seated and the scooter connection is not loose. Keep your hands dry and do not operate the switch from a damp area.
- Route the cable safely. Keep it away from door hinges, wheels, tyres, foot traffic and places where a vehicle could run over it. Do not pull it tight, hang the charger by its cable or cover its ventilation openings.
- Verify the charging indication. For the Ather Duo, a blinking green LED indicates charging and a solid green LED indicates that charging is complete when the charger is connected to the vehicle. An unexpected light pattern, no indication or an error message is a reason to stop and consult Ather support.
- Finish in the correct order. When charging is complete, switch off the wall socket before removing the mains plug. Disconnect the scooter handle without pulling the cable, wind the cable loosely and store the charger dry.
Ather states that its intelligent system automatically cuts off power once the battery is full. That automatic cutoff reduces the risk of continued charging, but it does not make a wet, damaged, overheated or incorrectly wired installation safe.

Ather publishes different electrical details for its portable charger and for Ather Duo. Match the figures to the charger name and label in your possession.

The 450 W and 900 W labels describe different charging equipment. Do not replace one with the other merely because both use a three-pin household plug, and do not assume that a connector physically fitting the scooter is electrically approved.

Is overnight charging safe?
Ather’s 23 September 2026 guidance describes the 450 W portable charger as intended for overnight home charging, and Ather says its charger cuts off automatically at 100 percent. Overnight charging is therefore consistent with that Ather guidance when the original charger, correct socket and protected, dry installation are used.
Overnight does not mean unattended under any conditions. Before going to bed, confirm that:
- the charger and cable are undamaged and cool to the touch;
- the plug is fully seated without looseness, buzzing or sparking;
- the outlet is not warm, discoloured or carrying other high-load appliances through a multi-way adapter;
- the charger vents are clear and the cable is not trapped or under tension;
- rain, leaks, condensation and water splashes cannot reach the socket, charger or vehicle port; and
- the scooter is parked where a vehicle, door or person cannot pull the cable.
If the socket, plug or charger becomes unusually hot, smells burnt, makes crackling sounds, trips the MCB repeatedly or shows visible damage, switch off the circuit if it is safe to do so, unplug only after power is isolated, and arrange inspection. Do not resume charging to see whether the symptom goes away.

Temperature, ventilation and weather controls
The Ather Duo manual gives an operating range of 0–45 °C. That range belongs to the Duo charger documentation; it is not a published operating range for the ATUM 1.0. In a hot garage, measure the actual environment around the charger rather than relying on outdoor air temperature. Avoid direct sun, enclosed cabinets, blankets, boxes and piles of luggage that can trap heat.

Place the charger on a stable surface with air around it, away from dust, standing water and materials that could block the intake or exhaust. A covered outdoor area is not automatically dry: wind-driven rain, spray from washing and condensation can still reach electrical connections. Move the setup indoors if weather protection is uncertain.
Apartment and shared-parking charging
In an apartment or commercial parking area, a normal wall socket may not be the right long-term arrangement. AtherNode is described as a managed system that distributes power across multiple electric vehicles. It is intended for a multi-EV installation rather than as a simple plug-in replacement for an Ather portable charger.

Ask the building manager or installer which outlet is assigned to your vehicle, how the circuit is protected, and whether charging sessions are metered or scheduled. Keep using the charger authorised for the scooter, follow the installation’s access rules, and do not connect an extension box to reach a shared charger. If the parking area cannot provide a dry, protected location, have the building electrician design an appropriate installation instead of charging in a traffic lane or beside a fire exit.
What is actually confirmed for the Atumobile ATUM 1.0?
Atumobile’s official ATUM 1.0 brochure identifies “Portable Charging” and “Portable Battery” as features. That confirms the product was presented with a portable charging concept, but it does not provide the technical information needed to select a home socket or reproduce Ather’s procedure.
The available ATUM 1.0 material does not state:
- charger input voltage or current;
- output voltage or current;
- connector type or pinout;
- required socket or circuit rating;
- whether a fuse, MCB, residual-current device or other protection is required;
- the order for connecting the wall and scooter;
- operating or storage temperature limits;
- rain, splash or moisture restrictions; or
- automatic cutoff behavior at full charge.
Because those values are not established, do not transfer Ather’s 5 A, 6 A, 185–275 V, 0–45 °C, LED or automatic-cutoff instructions to the ATUM 1.0. Do not assume that an Ather charger, an Ather connector or a generic electric-scooter charger is approved for an Atumobile vehicle.

How an ATUM 1.0 owner should proceed
- Identify the exact vehicle and charger. Record the ATUM 1.0 variant, battery version and the markings on the supplied charger. A brochure feature is not a substitute for the charger’s electrical label.
- Request current written instructions from Atumobile. Ask for the owner manual or support confirmation covering input voltage, current, socket rating, circuit protection, connector, connection order, environmental limits and full-charge cutoff.
- Have the outlet checked after those values are known. Give the electrician the manufacturer’s written requirements. Ask for verification of wiring condition, earthing and protective devices, not merely installation of a convenient plug.
- Use only the approved charger and connector. If the original charger is missing or damaged, obtain the replacement specified by Atumobile. Do not use a higher-wattage charger because it appears faster.
- Use a dry, ventilated location until Atumobile confirms outdoor limits. Keep water, flammable materials, children and pets away. Do not charge in rain, on a wet floor or under an unsealed cover.
- Follow the supplied sequence exactly. Until Atumobile provides a sequence, do not infer that wall-first or scooter-first is correct. Ask support rather than experimenting with order or adapters.
A 2021 PR Newswire release described ATUM Charge as a solar-powered charging station and said ATUM 1.0 customers could charge there for free at that time. That historical statement does not establish present availability, pricing or the electrical requirements for charging at home.
What not to do
- Do not use an extension cord, extension box or power strip. Ather expressly prohibits an extension box for its portable charger. For the ATUM 1.0, wait for Atumobile’s written position rather than assuming an extension is acceptable.
- Do not use a damaged or wet charger. Drying the outside of a connector does not repair water ingress, cracked insulation or corrosion.
- Do not charge beside fuel or hot work. Petrol, kerosene, welding and other potentially explosive materials are specifically excluded from Ather’s safe charging environment.
- Do not block ventilation. A charger inside a closed plastic tub, under bedding or behind tightly packed luggage cannot shed heat as designed.
- Do not share a socket casually. Avoid multi-way adapters and simultaneous high-load appliances on the same outlet unless an electrician has confirmed the circuit can carry the load.
- Do not force a connector or bypass protection. Never file, bend, bridge or modify pins, fuses, MCBs or safety interlocks.
- Do not cross-connect brands. Similar plugs, batteries or advertised portable charging do not prove electrical compatibility.
- Do not wash the scooter while it is connected. Disconnect and secure the charger before cleaning, and keep the charging port dry.

- Is the circuit protected? Ather Duo requires a fuse- or MCB-protected line. Have the installation verified rather than relying on a label alone.
- Is the location dry, ventilated and free of fuel or welding work? If not, relocate the charge.
