The Kerfton Fouray stores its kitchen and fridge carrier inside the camper. At the rear, the assembly slides out through the hatch and swings around into a usable position, so you can prepare a meal without unfolding the sleeping tent. The mechanism is the standout idea; the exact equipment included and the trailer’s suitability for your tow vehicle still need checking against the configuration you’re buying.
How does the Kerfton slide-out kitchen work?
The Fouray’s kitchen and fridge carrier are stored in its rear living and storage area. Open the rear hatch, slide the assembly out, then swing it around to the side into its working position. The Good Design Australia award entry and the Victorian Premier’s Design Awards entry both describe the slide-and-swing arrangement. Good Design Australia says the approach avoids conspicuous rails or tracks in the living area.
That layout gives the Fouray a practical distinction: kitchen access does not depend on erecting the tent. The sleeping area can stay packed while you get to the kitchen, making the setup relevant for a roadside stop or a picnic as well as a campsite.
Can you use the kitchen without setting up the camper?
Yes, according to New Atlas’s 2021 launch report: it describes opening the tailgate, accessing water and deploying the kitchen while the tent remains packed away. That report listed a two-burner stove, a removable or slide-out sink, a fold-down work surface, drawers and cabinetry, a fridge/freezer tray described for units up to 78 L, and 12-volt outlets. It also described an approximately 1.5 m picnic table with two benches that could be removed and used with or without the tent erected. These are launch-era details, not a guarantee of standard equipment on every current Fouray; confirm the contents of the exact build with Kerfton.

What the current published Fouray specifications say
Kerfton’s product page, accessed in 2026, publishes the following figures. They are manufacturer specifications; the final figures for a particular configured trailer should be confirmed before purchase.

These numbers are useful for an initial check, not a substitute for matching the actual loaded trailer to your vehicle. Ask for the configured camper’s final tare, payload and towball load, then compare them with the tow vehicle’s towing and towball limits. For a fridge, the stated battery capacity alone does not establish electrical compatibility: check the carrier’s internal dimensions, the fridge’s fit and power draw, and the electrical setup for your specific trailer.

What the design award does—and does not—show
Kerfton identifies the Fouray as a 2022 Australian Good Design Awards Gold Winner, and the award entry describes the four-berth camper and its slide-and-swing feature. That is evidence of design recognition and a description of the intended mechanism; it is not an independent durability or off-road performance test.
New Atlas’s 2021 launch article reports Kerfton’s account of testing on rough tracks and quotes founder and engineering manager Barry Trippit saying the trailer was intended for “Absolutely, full-blown off-road, as tough as it gets,” in response to a question about terrain. That is the founder’s stated aim, not a third-party test finding. The cited material does not establish comparative durability or long-term reliability.
