The Ferrari F80 brings a 1,200 hp hybrid powertrain, racing-linked electrical and turbocharging concepts, coordinated active aerodynamics, active suspension and a carbon-fibre chassis into a limited-production road car. Ferrari presents that combination as a way to pursue track performance without giving up road usability; the figures and technology links are the company’s claims, not independent proof that the F80 outperforms its rivals.

What makes the Ferrari F80 different?

Ferrari unveiled the F80 on 17 October 2024 and announced a production run of 799 cars. The company positions it among its landmark supercars, naming the GTO, F40 and LaFerrari as predecessors in that lineage. Its stated brief is a track-oriented car that remains usable on the road. Ferrari’s launch release describes that goal; it is a manufacturer intention, not an independent ride assessment.

The F80’s significance is less one isolated headline figure than the way Ferrari combines combustion power, electric drive, active chassis systems and aerodynamic control. That makes it a useful example of how a modern hypercar can bring multiple performance systems together in a road-going package. Whether it advances the segment more than competing cars cannot be established from Ferrari’s specifications alone.

How much power does the Ferrari F80 make?

Ferrari gives the F80 a combined maximum output of 1,200 hp in its 2024 launch release. Its technical sheet separately lists the V6’s maximum power as 900 cv at 8,750 rpm and its maximum torque as 850 Nm at 5,550 rpm. The company reports these figures in different units and contexts, so the engine’s 900 cv figure should not be silently treated as the combined 1,200 hp output.

What technology does the F80 borrow from racing?

Hybrid drive with front and rear electric motors

Ferrari describes a hybrid layout that pairs the V6 with an electric front axle and a rear electric motor. In Ferrari’s account, parts of the powertrain draw on experience associated with the 499P endurance racer. The arrangement makes electric drive part of the car’s propulsion system rather than treating hybridisation as a separate efficiency feature. The component layout and racing link are described in the technical sheet and Ferrari’s F80 editorial.

Turbocharging linked to Formula 1 concepts

Ferrari also links the F80’s e-turbo concepts to Formula 1. That is the company’s stated technology connection; it should not be read as evidence that the road car uses an identical F1 component or that the connection by itself establishes a performance advantage over another hypercar. Ferrari’s editorial account discusses the link.

How does the F80 manage aerodynamic load?

Ferrari describes the active rear wing as one part of a coordinated aerodynamic system, alongside the car’s other aerodynamic elements. It publishes a downforce figure of 1,050 kg at 250 km/h. That is Ferrari’s stated figure at a specified speed—not an independently measured result—and it does not, on its own, establish how the F80 compares with another car tested under the same conditions. Ferrari’s F80 editorial outlines the system and figure.

What role do the suspension and carbon-fibre chassis play?

The F80 combines a carbon-fibre chassis with active suspension. Ferrari says the suspension uses 3D-printed metal upper arms, bringing an additive-manufacturing component into the car’s chassis hardware. Together, those choices show the breadth of the engineering package: the F80’s performance proposition is not limited to adding electric power to a combustion engine, but also includes structural and suspension systems. Ferrari’s launch release and editorial describe these features and Ferrari’s road-and-track intent; they do not provide independent evidence of ride comfort or handling performance.

What the F80’s specifications do—and do not—show

The published details establish a clear engineering direction: high combined output from a hybrid V6 layout, electric drive at both axles, race-associated technology links, active aerodynamics and suspension, and a carbon-fibre structure. They make the F80 a notable Ferrari statement about integrating track-focused systems into a road car. But a manufacturer’s specifications are not a like-for-like comparison with other hypercars. The available figures here do not establish that the F80 leads its class in power, downforce, mass, road comfort, lap time or overall performance.
