Stellantis is positioning the Hurricane inline-six as the gasoline performance heart of the new Dodge Charger—not as a retreat from muscle-car performance, but as one part of a lineup that also includes battery-electric Daytona models. Dodge brands the twin-turbo 3.0-liter engine in the gas-powered Charger R/T and Scat Pack as SIXPACK. The R/T makes a published 420 horsepower; the Scat Pack raises that to 550 horsepower. Both pair standard all-wheel drive with a selectable rear-drive mode, giving Dodge a way to pitch the Charger as both all-weather capable and muscle-car familiar.
What “Hurricane” and “SIXPACK” mean
Hurricane is Stellantis’ engine-family name. SIXPACK is Dodge’s name for the twin-turbo 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six configuration used in the gasoline Charger R/T and Scat Pack. Dodge says both outputs are available in two-door and four-door Charger body styles. [Dodge Charger FAQ]
The naming matters because the 2026 Charger is a multi-energy family: buyers can choose a gasoline SIXPACK model or an electric Daytona. The inline-six is therefore Dodge’s answer for customers who want a gas-powered Charger, rather than the sole powertrain for the nameplate.
Two SIXPACK outputs, two roles
Dodge divides the gas-powered range into the R/T with the standard-output (S.O.) engine and the Scat Pack with the high-output (H.O.) version. Their published figures and manufacturer-stated positioning differ substantially.

Why Dodge pairs AWD with selectable rear drive
Standard all-wheel drive is central to Dodge’s positioning: the Charger is presented as usable in varied conditions without giving up the option of rear-drive behavior. Dodge says the gas models let the driver select rear-wheel drive, a feature intended to connect the new car’s traction technology with a familiar muscle-car layout. These are drivetrain features and brand positioning; they do not, by themselves, establish how the car behaves in independent road testing. [Dodge Charger FAQ]

The performance hardware also differs by output. Dodge says the R/T S.O. uses twin 50-mm low-inertia turbochargers, up to 22 psi of boost, direct injection, water-to-air charge cooling and plasma transfer wire arc cylinder-bore coating. The company says peak torque arrives by 2,500 rpm. For the Scat Pack H.O., Dodge describes twin 54-mm Garrett turbochargers and up to 30 psi of boost, paired with an eight-speed automatic and AWD with selectable rear-wheel drive. These are manufacturer-stated specifications, not evidence of long-term durability. [Dodge’s March 2026 R/T release]
Dodge’s case against the old HEMI R/T
Dodge compares the new R/T with the previous 5.7-liter HEMI-powered R/T, claiming the SIXPACK adds 50 hp and 73 lb-ft of torque. The company also says the new car is 0.5 seconds quicker to 60 mph and 0.6 seconds quicker in the quarter-mile. Those are Dodge’s comparisons and acceleration claims, not independently verified measurements. They are the core of the brand’s argument that moving from a V8 to a turbocharged six does not mean accepting less performance. [Dodge’s March 2026 R/T release]

Dodge’s campaign language makes the positioning explicit. Olivier François, Stellantis’ global chief marketing officer, said, “You don’t introduce the next generation of the world’s fastest AWD muscle car with something polite.” That is brand rhetoric, not an independent ranking of the Charger against competitors. [Dodge’s February 2026 campaign announcement]
How the gas Charger fits beside the electric Daytona
The Charger name now covers distinct powertrain choices: SIXPACK gasoline models and battery-electric Daytona models. That broadens the lineup’s appeal, but it also means horsepower alone is not a complete basis for comparing them. The gas R/T and Scat Pack figures describe engine output; electric models use a different powertrain, and a fair performance comparison would also need consistent vehicle versions and independent testing.

Dodge’s strategy is not to make the inline-six stand in for every Charger buyer. It is to keep a gasoline option in the expanding family, while using turbocharging, AWD and selectable rear drive to make that option feel current without abandoning familiar muscle-car cues.

On February 6, 2026, Stellantis reported that planned model-year 2026 production of the two-door Charger SIXPACK Scat Pack had sold out. The company also said production of the two-door 2026 Charger Scat Pack began at its Windsor plant in December 2025, which uses the flexible STLA Large architecture. The sellout statement applies to that planned production run as reported on that date; it does not establish that all trims or future production are sold out, or that the model has achieved sustained demand. What remains unproven
The published figures explain Dodge’s pitch, but they do not settle how the Hurricane-powered Charger compares on the road. Independent instrumented performance tests, fuel-economy comparisons, reliability evidence for this Charger application, owner feedback and broader sales data are not established here. Until those are available, the strongest grounded conclusion is about strategy: Stellantis is making the Hurricane inline-six a serious gasoline performance choice within a Charger range that now spans combustion and electric power.
