- Purchase the parts needed for your repair and put down a deposit when you pick up the tool.
- Return the tool in its original condition to receive your deposit back. If you choose to keep it, the deposit is the purchase price.

How much is the deposit?
O’Reilly says the deposit equals the full value of the particular rental tool. There is no single deposit amount for every tool: the amount depends on the item you borrow. Check the exact figure with the store before pickup. O’Reilly says the deposit is refunded when the tool is returned in original condition. Can you keep the tool?
Yes. O’Reilly says the deposit is also the purchase price if you decide to keep the tool, rather than return it. This can make borrowing useful when you are unsure whether you will need a specialty tool again, but compare the deposit with the value of owning it for future repairs. For example, if you expect to do repeated suspension work, a ball-joint press set may be an ownership alternative; check compatibility with your vehicle and what each set includes before buying. Does my local store have the tool I need?
Not necessarily. O’Reilly says tool availability varies by store. Check online for the specific tool and your location, or contact the store before making a trip. A vehicle-filtered catalog page can show listings associated with a selected vehicle, but it does not confirm that a particular nearby store has a tool ready to borrow.
