NASCAR’s response to Hurricane Helene was a broad effort by the sanctioning body, The NASCAR Foundation, tracks, teams, drivers, and local participants. It included announced charitable contributions, supply collections, transportation into western North Carolina, and track facilities used as relief hubs. The actions documented in 2024 show how racing organizations contributed, but they do not provide a complete final accounting of all NASCAR-related giving.
How the NASCAR community organized its response
In an October 3, 2024 roundup, NASCAR described a mix of financial support and on-the-ground logistics. Charlotte Motor Speedway organized supply collections; teams and tracks hosted or arranged additional drives; and Joe Gibbs Racing and Hendrick Motorsports used helicopters to move supplies into western North Carolina. NASCAR’s roundup presents these as separate efforts across the racing community, not as one centrally reported donation.
The response also included a direct role for facilities. North Wilkesboro Speedway was designated as a collection site after NASCAR and local authorities postponed a scheduled NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race so local emergency resources could focus on cleanup and recovery. NASCAR announced the postponement on September 30, 2024. In its later retrospective, NASCAR described North Wilkesboro as a collection and distribution hub and Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee as a relief center. Those characterizations come from NASCAR’s own 2025 Impact Report, published in 2026.
Announced contributions and how they were reported
The contributions below were reported by NASCAR on October 3, 2024, except for the Foundation’s later retrospective figure. They are distinct reports with different dates and recipient descriptions; the available information does not establish a combined total.

| Contributor | Reported amount | Recipient or context |
|---|---|---|
| The NASCAR Foundation | $150,000 | NASCAR’s October 3, 2024 roundup said the Foundation was donating toward hurricane relief and accepting contributions for the American Red Cross. |
| 23XI Racing and co-owner Michael Jordan | $1 million | NASCAR’s October 3, 2024 roundup said $500,000 would go to the NC Disaster Relief Fund and $500,000 to Second Harvest of Metrolina. |
| Joey Logano, Brittany Logano, and the Joey Logano Foundation | $250,000 | NASCAR’s October 3, 2024 roundup reported the pledge and said the first $25,000 was going to Convoy of Hope. |
| The NASCAR Foundation, retrospective report | $177,000 | NASCAR’s 2025 Impact Report, published in 2026, described a donation to the American Red Cross alongside a nationwide call to action. |
The two Foundation figures should remain separate: NASCAR’s October 2024 roundup reported $150,000 toward hurricane relief and fundraising for the Red Cross, while the later Impact Report described a $177,000 donation to the Red Cross. The reports do not explain whether the later figure replaces, adds to, or accounts for the earlier one.
These are reported announcements, not a verified final ledger of every contribution associated with NASCAR. They should not be added together as a definitive total.

Supplies, transportation, and direct assistance
Collecting essential supplies
NASCAR’s October 3, 2024 roundup described collection drives run by tracks and teams. One historical Kaulig Racing drive requested bottled water, non-perishable food, diapers, wipes, formula, toiletries, pet food, cleaning supplies, first-aid items, and batteries. North Wilkesboro Speedway’s requested list included portable chargers, also known as portable power banks. These were requests tied to October 2024 collection windows, not evidence of a current need or an active drop-off location.
For any present-day disaster response, check the current instructions of a recognized relief organization before buying or sending goods; needs and logistics change quickly.

Moving aid into affected areas
Helicopters provided a way to reach communities where roads or other logistics made delivery difficult. In a NASCAR.com interview published October 5, 2024, former Cup Series driver Greg Biffle described the helicopter response growing from a small number of aircraft to eight the following morning and 20 by that day’s end. Those numbers reflect the account in that interview, not a comprehensive official count of every aircraft involved.
Biffle described why he continued helping: “The reason why I’m still going is people are still in need, and I don’t want to leave a soldier behind.” He gave that account in the October 5, 2024 interview.

Why North Wilkesboro postponed its race
On September 30, 2024, NASCAR announced that the Whelen Modified Tour race at North Wilkesboro Speedway would be postponed. The decision followed coordination with local authorities and was intended to keep emergency resources focused on cleanup and recovery. The same announcement identified the speedway as a collection site for relief supplies. NASCAR’s announcement documents both the scheduling change and the track’s collection role.
NASCAR’s subsequent Impact Report adds a retrospective description of how North Wilkesboro and Bristol Motor Speedway served the response. It is an account by NASCAR of its own activities, rather than an independent evaluation of relief outcomes.
Quick Recap
What the record does—and does not—establish
- Documented: announced contributions by the Foundation, 23XI Racing and Michael Jordan, and Joey Logano and his foundation; supply drives; helicopter deliveries; and track facilities used for relief activity.
- Not established: a complete final total of NASCAR-related donations, a reconciliation of the two Foundation figures, or comparative evidence showing which type of assistance had the greatest impact.
- Historical only: the 2024 collection addresses, operating dates, and requested-item lists. They should not be treated as current donation instructions.
