Dealer listings accessed October 5, 2026, showed prices from $9,494.96 to $10,134.06 for the 454 HO and $10,683.95 to $11,403.05 for the ZZ454/440. These are specific engine ratings and dated US listing prices—not a universal figure or a guaranteed delivered cost.
Chevy 454 crate engine horsepower and torque
“454” identifies engine displacement—454 cubic inches, or 7.4 liters—not a single output rating. Chevrolet Performance currently lists two assembled Gen VI big-block crate engines. Their published output figures are:

These are Chevrolet Performance’s ratings for the named crate-engine configurations, not estimates for every factory, rebuilt, or modified 454. The ZZ454/440 is rated 31 hp and 19 lb.-ft. higher than the 454 HO, with each torque and horsepower figure specified at its own rpm point. Chevrolet Performance’s 454 HO specifications and ZZ454/440 specifications identify the exact models and ratings.

Chevrolet’s 2024 Performance catalog attributes the ZZ454/440’s additional output to its higher-flow oval-port aluminum heads, saying they add 30 horsepower over the 454 HO. Both engines are externally balanced and have a manufacturer-recommended maximum speed of 5,500 rpm. Confirm the fuel requirement and full build details for the exact engine before buying, particularly if the engine will be used in a modified installation.
What a Chevy 454 crate engine costs
Two US dealer listings accessed October 5, 2026, showed the following prices. The lower and higher figures are separate listings, not a guaranteed price range from Chevrolet or a promise that either dealer has stock.

Dealer descriptions for both engines list a water pump, balancer, 14-inch flexplate, and aluminum intake manifold among the package contents. Those descriptions are not a substitute for confirmation of the specific unit and quote. The ZZ454/440 listing says a carburetor, starter, ignition system, and other accessories may need to be sourced separately.
