At 12,000 miles a year and an assumed $3.50 per gallon, that difference works out to about $1,053 in fuel savings over five years. It is an estimate based on EPA-estimated ratings—not a guaranteed saving—and it does not apply to every trim.
How much could you save over five years?
Using Toyota’s 2025 combined-MPG ratings, the illustrative 4×4 comparison is 19 mpg for many gas i-FORCE grades and 21 mpg for the Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, and Capstone i-FORCE MAX grades. At 12,000 miles per year for five years, that is about 301 fewer gallons used by the hybrid. At an assumed average gasoline price of $3.50 per gallon, the fuel-only difference is approximately $1,053. Toyota’s 2025 Tundra eBrochure provides the ratings; the mileage and fuel-price assumptions here are for this example.
The calculation is not a Toyota or EPA five-year savings figure. It is a calculation from the published ratings and stated assumptions, and the result changes with annual mileage, fuel price, grade, and drivetrain.
How the estimate is calculated
- Estimate gas-truck fuel use: 12,000 miles × 5 years ÷ 19 mpg = about 3,158 gallons.
- Estimate i-FORCE MAX fuel use: 12,000 miles × 5 years ÷ 21 mpg = about 2,857 gallons.
- Find the difference: 3,158 − 2,857 = about 301 gallons.
- Convert gallons to dollars: 301 × assumed $3.50 per gallon = about $1,053.
To estimate your own fuel-only difference, use: (annual miles × 5 ÷ gas-truck combined mpg − annual miles × 5 ÷ hybrid combined mpg) × your assumed average price per gallon. Use ratings for the same model year, drivetrain, and comparable grades; otherwise, the result will not be a like-for-like estimate.

What changes for 4×2 models?
For applicable 2025 4×2 grades, Toyota lists 20 mpg combined for i-FORCE and 22 mpg combined for i-FORCE MAX. With the same 12,000 miles per year over five years and assumed $3.50 per gallon, the difference is about 273 gallons, or approximately $955 in fuel costs.
These figures are EPA-estimated ratings as presented by Toyota, not predictions of an individual owner’s consumption. Check the exact grade and drivetrain in Toyota’s 2025 Tundra eBrochure before using the estimate.

Which i-FORCE MAX trims get the higher rating?
The 21-mpg combined rating in the 2025 4×4 comparison applies to the i-FORCE MAX Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, and Capstone. The i-FORCE MAX TRD Pro is rated at 19 mpg combined, so applying the 21-mpg figure to that trim would overstate its fuel-economy advantage. Toyota’s 2025 brochure lists the gas i-FORCE 4×4 at 19 mpg combined for many grades, with some grade-specific ratings varying.
For 2025, Toyota lists the i-FORCE MAX powertrain as a turbocharged gasoline engine paired with an electric motor, producing 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. Those power figures describe output, not additional fuel savings. See Toyota’s 2025 Tundra model page and 2025 eBrochure for model details and specifications.

Why your actual savings may differ
Toyota cautions that mileage varies with vehicle condition and how and where the vehicle is driven. Your result can also be affected by route, speed, load, towing, weather, and other operating conditions. A combined rating is useful for comparing vehicles under standardized conditions; it is not a promise of what your Tundra will achieve.
- Annual mileage: More miles generally make a given mpg difference matter more; fewer miles make it matter less.
- Gasoline price: The example uses $3.50 per gallon throughout. Your average price over five years may be higher or lower.
- Trim and drivetrain: Ratings differ by configuration, including the TRD Pro exception.
Toyota’s 2025 Fleet Guide also advises treating mileage estimates as comparisons and notes that real mileage varies.

Fuel savings are not the same as total ownership savings
The estimates above count fuel only. They do not include any purchase-price difference, financing, insurance, maintenance, resale value, or future changes in fuel prices. A fuel calculation by itself cannot show whether a hybrid’s price premium pays back; that requires comparing the exact vehicles’ prices and ownership costs over the period you expect to keep them.
The example is anchored to 2025 ratings. Toyota’s 2026 Tundra page covers the current model-year lineup, so use its applicable specifications rather than carrying 2025 ratings into a 2026 comparison.
