In the UK manufacturer figures available here, boot capacity with all seven seats in use ranges from 40 litres in the Citroën C3 Aircross to 485 litres in the seven-seat Nissan X-Trail. Several examples sit between 175 and 370 litres. These are manufacturer-published figures, not results from a common test, so the seat configuration and measurement boundary matter as much as the headline number.
Boot capacities with all seven seats in use
The figures below are for the third row upright, wherever the manufacturer’s description explicitly establishes that configuration. They show how much these claims differ, but they should not be treated as a standardized league table: manufacturers do not all state the same measurement boundary, and the cited pages do not establish a shared volume-measurement method.

| Seven-seat model | Published capacity | Configuration, measurement detail and source date |
|---|---|---|
| Citroën C3 Aircross | 40 L | Citroën/Stellantis says this is with all seats deployed. Year and measurement boundary are not stated in the surfaced manufacturer information. |
| Kia Sorento | 175–179 L | Kia UK lists 179, 175 and 179 L behind the upright third row across the variants shown. Year and measurement boundary are not stated. |
| KGM Rexton | 240 L | KGM UK specifies all seats up and measurement to window level. The page refers to the 2025 KGM range, but does not date this capacity statement separately. |
| Toyota Highlander | 332 L | Toyota UK says the capacity includes 27 L beneath the floor. The page dates to 2022 and was updated in 2023; the upper measurement boundary is not stated. |
| Škoda Kodiaq, seven-seat | 340 L | Škoda UK lists seats-up capacity in a technical specification effective 1 April 2025. Measurement boundary is not stated. |
| Vauxhall Frontera Hybrid, seven-seat | 370 L | Vauxhall/Stellantis gives the figure with the rear seats up and measured under the luggage-compartment cover. Year is not stated in the surfaced information. |
| Nissan X-Trail, seven-seat version | 485 L | Nissan UK lists luggage capacity with seats up. Year and measurement boundary are not stated in the surfaced information. |
| MG MGS9 PHEV | 332 L | MG UK says this remains with all seven seats in use. Year and detailed trim context are not stated; check the specific market and version before relying on the figure. |
The Volkswagen ID. Buzz is a useful adjacent reference, but it is a van-derived MPV rather than a conventional SUV. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles lists 306 L with the third row upright. Keep it separate from an SUV-only comparison.
Reading the spread without treating it as a ranking
At the low end of these listed claims, the C3 Aircross has 40 L with all seats deployed. At the high end, Nissan lists 485 L for the seven-seat X-Trail with seats up. The Kia Sorento figures are 175–179 L across the variants shown, while the Rexton is listed at 240 L. Toyota and MG each state 332 L, followed by 340 L for the Kodiaq and 370 L for the Frontera Hybrid. These numbers give a sense of the range, but their different or unstated measurement boundaries mean the apparent order should not be read as a controlled test of usable luggage space.

The repeated 332 L figure is a good example of why the qualifier matters: Toyota says its figure includes 27 L beneath the floor, while MG’s surfaced statement does not give the same level of measurement detail. The capacity alone cannot establish that their boots have the same shape, access or practical room for a particular load.
What the numbers mean in practice
Seven seats can leave very different amounts of room
The span from the C3 Aircross’s 40 L to the X-Trail’s 485 L is substantial. It means “seven-seater” alone tells you little about whether the boot will take the luggage you carry. A model’s total boot volume with the third row folded is not an answer to the more specific question of space left when every seat is occupied.
Even the middle of this comparison is not one uniform category: Kia lists 175–179 L across the Sorento variants shown; KGM gives 240 L; Toyota and MG each state 332 L, but their cited claims are not necessarily measured on the same basis. A larger number can help you shortlist, but it does not prove that a particular case or pushchair will fit.

A published litre figure cannot tell you the width and height of the tailgate opening, the shape of the load area, or how easily an object can be turned into place. Nor does it establish whether a bulky item fits without obstructing the view or interfering with the occupants. Those are practical fit questions, not things that can be resolved by comparing litres alone.

For a useful real-world check, measure the items you actually carry and take those measurements to the vehicle. Check the opening and the boot itself, then try loading the items with the third row upright in the exact vehicle and trim you are considering. Include the objects’ largest dimensions and the orientation in which they need to pass through the opening. If you need to carry several items at once, test the complete load rather than assuming separate items will all fit together.
Soft-sided cabin luggage may be easier to arrange around a boot’s shape than rigid cases, but that is not a guarantee of fit. Compare the bag’s actual dimensions with the vehicle and try it in the boot; no generic cabin-bag size is established as fitting every SUV in this comparison.
Manufacturer examples are not a universal packing standard
Land Rover’s Discovery brochure says that with all seven seats in use, up to three cabin bags can fit behind the third row. That is a manufacturer claim about the Discovery, not a standard cabin-bag size or a promise that three bags will fit in every seven-seat SUV. Use the example as a reminder to check the dimensions of your own bags against the specific vehicle.

Check where the volume is measured
The boundary can change what a published capacity represents. KGM says the Rexton’s 240 L is measured to window level. Vauxhall describes the Frontera Hybrid’s 370 L as the space under the luggage-compartment cover. Toyota says 27 L of the Highlander’s 332 L is beneath the floor. These descriptions are not equivalent, and the available manufacturer information does not confirm that every other figure uses either boundary.

Before comparing two figures, look for wording about whether the measurement is to a cover, to window height, or includes under-floor storage. If the manufacturer does not say, record that the boundary is not stated rather than assuming it matches another car’s method. The defensible reading is “manufacturer-published capacity as specified,” not a precise cross-brand ranking measured on identical terms.
Confirm the seats are actually up
Manufacturer specification pages may place several capacities beside one another: a five-seat configuration, the boot with the third row folded, and the maximum volume with seats folded. Only the number explicitly tied to the third row upright answers the all-seats-in-use question. Check the label attached to the figure, not just the model name or the largest number shown on the page.
Audi’s Q7 page, for example, gives a 722 L figure for when the third-row seats are folded. That is not an all-seven-seats-up figure. It illustrates why a large boot-volume number should never be copied into a seven-seat comparison without checking the associated seat configuration.
How to compare models for your own use
- Set the requirement. Decide what must fit when all seven seats are occupied: everyday bags, a pushchair, shopping, pet equipment, or a particular combination. Measure the items rather than relying on a generic description such as “family luggage.”
- Find the exact configuration. Confirm that the cited capacity is for the seven-seat version and that the third row is upright. If the vehicle is offered in different seating or trim configurations, match the figure to the version you intend to inspect.
- Record the measurement boundary. Note whether the manufacturer specifies window level, a luggage cover, under-floor storage, or no boundary. Keep that qualifier beside the litre figure so you do not mistake different conventions for a controlled comparison.
- Check the source’s model year and market. The claims here come from UK manufacturer material, but several surfaced pages do not state a year. A dated specification can be tied to its stated date; an undated figure should be checked against the version currently offered in your market.
- Load-test the vehicle. With all seats in their intended positions, try your own items in the boot. Check the route through the tailgate, the available floor and height, and whether the load fits together. A brochure volume cannot substitute for this test.
- Compare like with like. Use capacities as a shortlist tool, then base the final decision on matching seat configuration, measurement boundary and physical fit. Do not rank a cover-level figure against a window-level or under-floor-inclusive figure as if their methods were identical.
Model-year and availability cautions
These figures come from UK manufacturer claims, but that does not establish that every named model or every cited configuration is currently available in every market. The dates are uneven: the Kodiaq figure is from a Škoda UK technical specification effective 1 April 2025; Toyota’s Highlander page dates to 2022 and was updated in 2023; KGM’s page refers to the 2025 range without separately dating the capacity statement. The Discovery brochure is older, and several other surfaced capacity claims do not state a year.

Before using a figure to make a purchase decision, verify it against the manufacturer’s specification for the exact vehicle, market, model year and seating version. If a dealer listing gives a different capacity, check whether it describes another seat configuration or measurement boundary before treating the numbers as contradictory.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which figure should you use?
Use the published litres to identify which vehicles may deserve a closer look, not to predict exactly what your load will do. The most meaningful comparison keeps four details together: the capacity, the third-row position, the measurement boundary and the exact version. Then confirm the practical fit of your own luggage in person. If one of those details is missing, the figure may still be useful, but it is not a fully like-for-like comparison.

Are these boot-capacity figures directly comparable?
Not precisely. KGM measures the Rexton figure to window level, Vauxhall gives its Frontera Hybrid figure under the luggage-compartment cover, and Toyota includes under-floor storage in the Highlander total. Other cited figures do not state an equivalent boundary.
Will a 332-litre boot fit my luggage?
The litre figure alone cannot answer that. Toyota and MG each publish 332 L with all seven seats in use, but the measurement details differ or are incomplete, and litres do not describe the opening or boot shape. Measure your items and test them in the exact vehicle with the third row upright.
The Bottom Line
Published all-seats-up capacities in these UK examples range from 40 L to 485 L, but they do not share a confirmed measurement method. Check the seven-seat configuration and measurement boundary, then load-test your own luggage in the exact vehicle before choosing.
