“Battery life” means two different things on a kids’ electric dirt bike: ride time per charge and years before the battery needs replacement. For a concrete benchmark, Razor lists the MX350 for up to 60 minutes in low-speed mode or 30 minutes in high-speed mode, while its MX650 is listed for up to 40 minutes of continuous use. Those are manufacturer maximums for specific models, not guarantees for every bike or riding condition.
For the MX350, SX350 and MX400 covered by the current owner manual, Razor estimates average battery service life at one to two years depending on use and conditions. The same manual calls for a 12-hour first charge, up to 12 hours after riding, and a recommended maximum charging time of 24 hours. Always use the instructions and charger supplied for the exact model and version.

Ride time and battery lifespan are not the same
A battery can provide a certain number of minutes on one charge, then remain usable for many months or years of repeated charging. Conversely, a bike that once ran for an hour may eventually run for only a few minutes even though the charger says the pack is full.
- Runtime: how long the child can ride before the next charge.
- Service life: how long the battery continues accepting and delivering a useful charge before replacement.
Runtime changes with speed, rider weight, terrain, temperature, tire pressure, braking, maintenance and how often the rider stops and accelerates. Service life depends on use and storage habits as well as the battery’s age. Do not use a model’s advertised minutes as a promise of multi-year battery life.

Published runtime for two common electric dirt-bike models
The following figures come from current Razor product specifications. “Up to” indicates a best-case manufacturer claim, not an independent test or a guaranteed result for every rider.

The MX350’s two published figures demonstrate why speed mode matters: riding continuously at the higher setting can cut the stated maximum from 60 to 30 minutes. The MX650 specification does not establish a universal runtime for other 36-volt bikes, different versions or different battery chemistries.
How long should you charge a kids’ electric dirt bike?
For the MX350, SX350 and MX400 covered by Razor’s current owner manual, use this sequence:

- Before the first ride, charge for 12 hours. Connect the recommended charger to the bike and a suitable wall outlet according to the manual.
- After every ride, charge for up to 12 hours. The manual says to charge immediately after riding, even if the indicator changes to green before that period ends. It gives a recommended maximum of 24 hours; do not leave the bike connected indefinitely.
- Switch the bike off before charging. Do not charge while the power switch is on.
- Use only the recommended charger. Voltage alone does not prove that a charger is compatible. The plug, charging profile, polarity and current rating must match the exact model and version.
- Keep an adult present. Razor’s manual states that batteries are to be charged under adult supervision.
- Disconnect when finished. Unplug the charger from the wall outlet when it is not in use.
These timings apply to the model family named in that manual. Other children’s electric dirt bikes can use different batteries and charge schedules, so the manual supplied with the bike takes priority over a generic internet recommendation.
What the charger light means
The MX350/SX350/MX400 manual describes the indicator as green when the charger is connected to the wall and on standby, red while charging, and green again when charging is complete. A green light does not authorize using a different charger or extending charging without limit; follow the specified charging period and maximum.
When charging is unsafe
Do not charge if the charger cord, plug, enclosure, connector or another charging component is damaged. Repair or replace the damaged part first. Stop using the bike if wiring or connectors are loose, melted, corroded or visibly damaged, and have the problem assessed before reconnecting power.

What shortens ride time?
Razor’s MX350 information says continuous runtime varies with riding conditions, climate and maintenance. Constant stopping and starting also reduces ride time compared with steady riding. The owner manual’s troubleshooting section identifies several specific causes:

- Improper tire inflation: soft tires increase rolling resistance and draw more energy.
- An aged battery: an old pack may no longer accept a full charge even when the indicator turns green.
- Brake adjustment: a brake that drags can make the motor work harder and reduce runtime.
- Riding pattern and environment: high-speed operation, hills, rough ground, repeated starts, cold weather and heavy loads can all change the result.
Because these factors overlap, a short ride does not by itself prove that the battery has failed.

- Repeat a complete charge. Turn the bike off and use the recommended charger for the period specified for the exact model. Confirm that the indicator behaves as described in the manual.
- Inspect the charging connection. Check that the plug is fully seated and that the cable, charger case and bike connector have no cuts, bent contacts, looseness or heat damage.
- Check tire inflation. Inflate both tires to the pressure specified for that bike. Do not substitute a pressure from another model.
- Check for brake drag. With the bike switched off, make sure the brake is not rubbing continuously and that the wheel turns normally. Adjust the brake only as the manual allows.
- Compare riding conditions. Note whether the short run occurs only in high-speed mode, on hills, in cold weather or during repeated stop-and-go riding.
- Consider battery age. If the pack is old and still will not accept a full charge after the checks above, consult the manufacturer’s support material for that model.
The official manual does not set one universal number of minutes that proves a battery must be replaced. Diagnosis should include charging, tires, brakes, connections and operating conditions rather than relying on a single runtime threshold.

Razor’s MX350/SX350/MX400 owner manual states: “Average battery life is 1 to 2 years depending on product use and conditions.” This is a manufacturer estimate for that specific family, not a guarantee for every children’s electric dirt bike.

Frequent deep discharges, leaving the power on when the bike is parked, inadequate charging during storage and exposure to unsuitable temperatures can reduce useful life. A battery that is several years old and cannot hold a full charge may be a reasonable replacement candidate, but confirm that other causes of short runtime have been ruled out first.

Storage and battery-care routine
After each ride
- Switch the bike off.
- Allow mud and moisture around the charging area to be cleaned and dried according to the bike’s care instructions.
- Charge immediately with the recommended charger.
- Unplug the charger from the wall when it is not being used.
Before a long storage period
- Fully charge the battery before putting the bike away.
- Recharge it periodically during storage instead of leaving it discharged for months. Razor warns that infrequent recharging can leave a battery unable to accept a charge.
- Keep the bike switched off. Leaving the power on for an extended period can result in a battery that no longer holds a charge.
- Store it where the battery will not freeze or remain below freezing. The current manual supplied with the exact bike should control temperature decisions.
An older MX350/MX400 battery-care document gives version-specific guidance to store above -10°F and below 75°F. Because that is legacy, model-specific information, do not apply those limits to a different version without checking its current manual.
Choosing a replacement battery or charger
Replacement parts must match the complete electrical and physical specification, not just a headline voltage. Razor’s examples show why:

A replacement charger is appropriate only when the original is missing or damaged and the substitute is explicitly compatible with the exact model. Avoid “universal” chargers unless the manufacturer’s documentation confirms the required voltage, polarity, connector and charging profile.
A practical charging checklist for parents
- Read the manual for the exact bike and version.
- Use the recommended charger, not a charger selected by voltage alone.
- Turn the bike off before connecting power.
- Charge for the specified initial and post-ride period.
- Keep an adult supervising the charge.
- Never charge with damaged cords, plugs, enclosures or connectors.
- Unplug from the wall when charging is complete or the charger is not in use.
- Fully charge before extended storage and recharge periodically.
- Prevent freezing and follow the current manual’s temperature guidance.
- Investigate tires, brakes, connections and riding conditions before replacing an older battery.
