The available policy and industry figures show a government push to deepen manufacturing and a large domestic components aftermarket; they do not measure repair bills, part-level lead times or local stock. For car owners, the practical effect depends on the part, vehicle, supplier, imported inputs and distribution to the workshop.
What local sourcing means for a car owner
“Locally sourced” can describe different stages of a part’s supply chain. A component might be manufactured in India, assembled here from imported inputs, or sold by an Indian supplier whose materials or technology come from abroad. Those are not equivalent claims. Domestic value addition measures qualifying value added in India under a particular scheme; it does not mean every input is Indian-made.

That distinction matters because a car repair involves more than the location where a component is made. A part has to be designed or specified for the vehicle, produced to the required quality, moved through a supply channel, stocked by a dealer or workshop, and fitted. A local factory is one link in that chain—not proof that a replacement part is locally available or will cost less at the counter.

There are also different kinds of replacement parts. A genuine or OEM replacement part is sold through the vehicle maker’s service and parts channels. “Aftermarket” covers parts sold outside those channels, but it is a broad category rather than a single quality, origin or warranty level. Neither label by itself establishes where a part was made. The figures below describe industry and policy, not a head-to-head comparison of replacement parts.

What India’s policy figures establish—and what they do not
The PLI-Auto scheme targets specified technologies
The Ministry of Heavy Industries describes the Production Linked Incentive scheme for the automobile and auto-component industry, or PLI-Auto, as a five-year scheme covering Advanced Automotive Technology products. Its approved outlay is ₹25,938 crore, and its stated period is FY2022–23 through FY2026–27. The Ministry says the scheme aims to promote deep localization. That is a policy objective focused on eligible products and participants, not a blanket rule that every spare part for every car must be made in India. Ministry of Heavy Industries: PLI-Auto scheme
The DVA threshold applies to scheme incentives
In a Ministry of Heavy Industries release carried by the Press Information Bureau on 21 July 2026, the government reported that participating applicants must meet a minimum 50% Domestic Value Addition (DVA) requirement to receive incentives. It said 18 applicants had received DVA certificates covering 154 products or variants as of 16 July 2026. Those figures describe scheme participation and certification status; they do not mean that half the value of every Indian vehicle, or half of every replacement part sold in India, is locally sourced. PIB, 21 July 2026: PLI-Auto implementation and DVA certifications
The scheme is relevant to consumers as an indicator of industrial direction: the government is using incentives to encourage qualifying advanced-technology manufacturing and domestic value addition. It is not a retail-price programme, and the cited figures do not report how incentives affect a particular car’s parts bill. Nor do the certification totals tell a driver whether a particular bumper, sensor, clutch or other replacement component is produced domestically or in stock nearby.

How localization could affect repair costs
Domestic production could reduce exposure to some import-related costs or delays for a component, but that is a possible mechanism, not a measured consumer result in the cited sources. The final price paid for a repair depends on the exact part and vehicle, the supplier and distribution path, and the repair quote itself. A local factory does not establish the price charged by a dealer, independent workshop or parts seller.

Localization can also involve imported raw materials or components. The 2021 SIAM/ACMA Localization Roadmap discusses imported inputs, gaps in technology or supplier capability, and raw-material cost competitiveness as constraints. These factors help explain why a product made or assembled in India may still be exposed to overseas supply or cost pressures. The roadmap is useful structural context, but it is from 2021 and does not quantify how those constraints affect today’s retail price for a specific part. SIAM/ACMA, Localization Roadmap for the Indian Automotive Sector (2021)
There is no matched vehicle-level evidence in the cited material comparing repair invoices for locally sourced and imported parts under the same conditions. It therefore cannot support a general savings percentage, a claim that local parts are always cheaper, or a conclusion that imported parts are always more expensive. Market size and incentive figures are not substitutes for a repair quote.
Compare quotes for the same repair, not broad industry figures
If you want to know whether sourcing changes the cost of your repair, ask for comparable written quotes. Keep the vehicle and work scope identical: a part quote for one model year or trim may not apply to another, and parts-only figures cannot be compared fairly with totals that include labor or taxes.
- Record the vehicle’s model year, trim and the part or repair required.
- Ask whether the quote is for a genuine/OEM part or an aftermarket part, and request the supplier or part identification where available.
- Have the seller or workshop state the quoted part price, labor, taxes, warranty terms and expected supply time separately.
- Ask whether the part is in stock, needs to be transferred from another location, or must be ordered. A general estimate is not the same as confirmed stock.
- Compare only quotes for the same fitment and scope, and note the city and date. Price and availability can be local and time-specific.
This process does not prove where every input originated. It does make the actual consumer decision clearer: which part is being offered, what the full repair costs, what protection applies, and when the workshop expects to complete the job.

What the aftermarket’s size tells you
The Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) reports that the Indian auto-component industry recorded turnover of INR 7.59 lakh crore in FY2025–26. It reports INR 6.52 lakh crore in supplies to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and a domestic aftermarket worth INR 1.85 lakh crore, up 9% year on year. These are association-reported market aggregates for that fiscal year, not a count of parts made locally, a measure of local stock, or a calculation of household repair savings. ACMA: Industry overview and FY2025–26 figures
The aftermarket figure shows that replacement parts and related business form a substantial part of the domestic component industry. But it does not reveal how much of that market is supplied by Indian-made parts, how the market is divided by vehicle or part type, or how reliably a specific component reaches a specific town. A large national market can coexist with limited availability of a particular item at a particular workshop; the aggregate alone cannot confirm or rule that out.
Why a part may still be hard to find
Availability is a local, part-specific question. A manufacturer’s location does not tell you whether a retailer or workshop has ordered that part, whether it is held in regional inventory, or when it can be delivered. Likewise, a national market total or a DVA certificate does not reveal stock for your car’s model year in your city.
Supply constraints can arise at different points. The 2021 SIAM/ACMA roadmap identifies dependence on imported raw materials and components, technology or capability gaps, and raw-material cost competitiveness as localization challenges. These are reasons not to equate domestic manufacturing with a fully domestic, interruption-proof supply chain. They are structural observations from that report, not a current inventory survey or a measurement of waiting times for repair parts.

The cited sources do not provide part-level lead times, regional stock data or matched records linking sourcing to the time a car spends waiting for repair. There is therefore no support here for a general claim that locally made parts are always easier to obtain, or that localization has shortened repair waits by a specified number of days. For an individual repair, the useful evidence is what the dealer or workshop can confirm about the exact part and its expected arrival.
Questions to ask when a workshop gives a delivery estimate
- Is the exact part already in stock, and where? If it is not, is it being ordered from a supplier or transferred from another location?
- Does the estimate apply to this specific part number or fitment for your vehicle?
- Is the quoted date an expected arrival or a confirmed delivery date?
- Will the workshop contact you if the part is delayed, and can it identify an alternative that is compatible and acceptable to you?
These questions help separate a confirmed local supply from a general expectation. They do not establish the part’s full origin or guarantee that the estimate will not change.

A lower quote is useful only if the replacement is appropriate for the vehicle and the terms are clear. Because “aftermarket” is a broad category, do not assume every non-OEM part has the same specifications, quality or warranty—or that it was made in India. Ask the seller or workshop to identify the part offered and explain the fitment and warranty. The sources cited here do not compare the quality, warranty coverage or prices of OEM and aftermarket options, so those points need to be checked for the particular part and seller.
When reviewing alternatives, keep these details together rather than treating origin as the sole decision criterion:

- Wide Compatibility: Each pack contains 4 cuttable replacement wiper blade refill measuring 10.6mm high and 6mm wide. Meanwhile, the bendable design of the wiper strips makes them easy to store, not easy to break, and easy to use at any time
- Perfect Fit: Adopting SPSN carbon inking treatment and double micro-edge precision cutting technology to ensure that the adhesive windshield wiper blade is smooth and even on both sides, and fits closely with the windshield, providing excellent cleaning performance without streak residue, significantly improving the clarity of the rearview mirror and ensuring driving safety
- Fitment: Confirm that the part is intended for the vehicle’s model year and trim.
- Part status: Establish whether it is a genuine/OEM replacement or an aftermarket option, and who is supplying it.
- Price scope: Check whether the figure covers the part alone or also labor and taxes.
- Warranty: Ask who provides the warranty, what it covers and for how long; do not infer terms from the part category.
- Timing: Get the expected availability or arrival date for that exact part.
- Repair responsibility: Clarify who will fit the part and what recourse is available if it is incompatible or fails.
These are practical checks, not claims that one channel is always better. A fair comparison requires the same vehicle, repair, location and quote date, with the part and service terms made explicit.
What consumers can—and cannot—conclude today
The evidence supports three conclusions. First, India has a stated policy effort to deepen localization for eligible advanced automotive technology products, with a defined scheme period and DVA condition. Second, ACMA reports a substantial domestic auto-component aftermarket in FY2025–26. Third, the 2021 SIAM/ACMA roadmap documents supply-chain constraints that make “made locally” an incomplete description of an input chain.
Those facts do not establish a typical rupee saving on repairs, a consumer-level reduction in part prices, or a shorter wait for a replacement. They do not show that all aftermarket parts are locally made, that all OEM parts are imported, or that a certified scheme product is available through a nearby repair channel. The consumer impact remains dependent on the part, vehicle and local supply path.

A useful comparison would distinguish OEM and aftermarket parts, identify the model year and region, separate labor and taxes, and explain how prices and waits were collected. Until that kind of comparison is available, judge a repair using a vehicle-specific quote and confirmed availability rather than using national localization or market-size figures as a proxy for your bill.
