What changed between the HSD and the 2680H?
The reported design change is four additional inches between the disk and finishing basket. John Deere’s Michael Porter, go-to-market manager for tillage equipment, told Successful Farming: “By increasing the distance between disks and basket, we found the tool had better residue flow from previous models, leading to even better field finish in high-residue conditions,”
That spacing is intended to give residue more room to pass through the implement. Deere’s current HSD product information likewise describes improved residue flow and reliability relative to the 2680H.
What benefit does Deere claim in the field?
The practical aim is less plugging when residue is heavy or conditions are wet. Better flow may also support a more consistent finish, according to Porter’s statement. These are manufacturer-stated benefits: the available report does not quantify plugging reduction, establish a yield effect, or show that the improvement will occur in every crop, soil, or moisture condition.

How the HSD fits into the 2680H lineup
John Deere says two-section 2680H models will be replaced by two-section HSD models beginning with model year 2027, in working widths from 15 to 25 feet. Integral three-point and drawn one-section 2680H models remain available to order, according to the company’s product information. Availability can vary by configuration and market.
