Honda framed the package as a value proposition. That makes it a pointed competitive offer, not proof that it undercuts or outsells Yamaha or Suzuki.
What Honda announced for U.S. buyers
On March 11, 2025, American Honda announced the CB1000 Hornet SP for the U.S. market, with an MSRP of $10,999 and availability stated for April. Those are launch-announcement details—not a current dealer quote, confirmation of stock, or a transaction price. Honda says U.S. sales are handled through independent authorized Honda retail dealers. American Honda’s announcement presented the bike as a new-model value proposition.
The Hornet SP is a naked bike powered by an engine derived from the CBR1000RR, Honda says, and it has an Öhlins shock. The combination is the substance of Honda’s pitch: high-performance-engine lineage and premium suspension equipment in a street-focused package at the announced price. “Value” is Honda’s positioning, not an independently established comparison with rival motorcycles.

Performance-oriented hardware
The CBR1000RR-derived engine gives the Hornet SP a connection to Honda’s sportbike engineering, while the Öhlins shock is a notable equipment feature. Those descriptions do not establish a specific power, weight, or track-performance advantage over Yamaha or Suzuki; a fair comparison would require matching official figures and model years.

Why Honda’s scale matters—and what it does not prove
Honda Motor Co. reported 20.57 million motorcycle unit sales for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025, equivalent to approximately 40% of the global motorcycle market by the company’s account. It also reported record fiscal-year motorcycle sales in 37 countries and territories. These are Honda-reported global figures, useful context for the company’s reach and ability to develop a broad product lineup. Honda is extending the platform in another direction
In a May 28, 2026 announcement, American Honda described the CB1000F as a retro-styled four-cylinder motorcycle built on the CB1000 Hornet SP platform, with styling inspiration from the 1979 CB750F. This suggests Honda is using the platform to serve a different design preference as well as the modern naked-bike market. Not on the available figures alone. Establishing that claim would require a current, like-for-like U.S. comparison: model-year availability, announced MSRP, engine and platform, comparable official power and weight figures where published, equipment and rider aids, and intended use. Without verified competitor models and specifications, it would be misleading to claim Honda has the lowest price or a measurable performance advantage.

The narrower conclusion is still meaningful: Honda announced a liter-class naked bike with sportbike-derived engine lineage and Öhlins suspension at a stated $10,999 MSRP, and presented that package as attractive value. Whether that offer actually stings Yamaha or Suzuki depends on the current alternatives, dealer pricing and availability, and how buyers weigh each bike’s equipment and purpose.
