The account was published in 2017, so it documents Bugatti’s stated process at that time—not a verified current checklist for every Chiron variant.
What Bugatti says happens before a Chiron is handed over
Bugatti’s 2017 description presents delivery preparation as several checks at different stages, rather than one final test drive. The process begins with bodywork and leak checks, continues through electronic and dynamic testing, then moves to cosmetic finishing and management approval. Bugatti’s Molsheim production account is the source for the sequence and figures below.
Body fit and water resistance
Before installation, body parts are preassembled under lighting intended to match conditions in the Atelier, so paint defects or damage can be noticed early. Technicians adjust gaps and joints. After the bodywork is installed, Bugatti says the car undergoes a 30-minute “monsoon rain” test, with water applied at varying intensity to check for leaks.
Electronics, alignment, and preparation for driving
Once the interior is complete, Bugatti covers the car with transparent protective film while preparing it for testing and final inspection. Before the car first leaves the Atelier, its electronic functions are tested and wheel alignment is adjusted. For the initial drive, Bugatti says it fits non-original wheels and underbody components to protect the customer’s parts from wear and damage.

Road acceptance drive and final drive
The 2017 account describes an initial route of about 300 km through the Vosges to Colmar airport. Some functional tests on the runway require speeds above 250 km/h. The return leg on the Autobahn is driven at a more relaxed pace to let the car cool. These are figures for the route Bugatti described then; they should not be read as a current route or universal speed requirement for every Chiron.
If the test driver approves the initial drive, Bugatti says it changes the transmission oil and refits the original wheels and underbody components. A further 50 km drive follows before final dynamic approval.

Finish inspection and management approval
After dynamic testing, Bugatti removes the protective film, cleans and polishes the car, and inspects the finish in a light tunnel for more than six hours. The 2017 account says visible blemishes are corrected; the work could take from three hours to three weeks if a personalized component had to be remade.
The final step described is a management review involving the production head and leads from sales, quality assurance, and customer service. Bugatti says handover is scheduled only when management is satisfied with the car’s condition.

How this differs from engine and model development testing
Several large numbers associated with Chiron testing refer to development or components, not the acceptance of an individual customer car.
- Development: In a 2022 account, Bugatti reported more than 16,000 hours of W16 engine development testing and more than 500,000 test kilometres in vehicles to meet its quality standards. These are program-level development figures, not the mileage or duration for each delivered Chiron. Bugatti’s engine development account.
- Before installation: Bugatti says a Chiron powertrain runs for eight hours on a performance test bench before installation. That is a component test, separate from the finished car’s road acceptance drive. Bugatti’s account of the W16.
- Variant development: A 2021 report on the Chiron Super Sport describes high-speed development work up to 440 km/h. It concerns tuning that variant, not an ordinary delivery test for a customer Chiron. Bugatti’s Chiron Super Sport report.
What Bugatti’s Divo account adds—and what it does not prove about the Chiron
In a separate 2019 account about Divo customer cars, Bugatti described an inspector using a checklist with more than 100 points. The checks included destination-market homologation, whether the customer’s chosen specification had been realized, and electrical features such as the display, windows, navigation, audio, and air conditioning. That Divo account also describes a test drive of up to five hours and about 300 km. It is useful context for Bugatti’s inspection practices, but it does not establish that a Chiron uses the same checklist or drive procedure. Bugatti’s Divo delivery account.

How current and universal is the published Chiron sequence?
The detailed Chiron route, timings, and approval steps above come from Bugatti’s 2017 Molsheim account. The published material establishes what Bugatti said it did at that time; it does not confirm that the precise route, thresholds, timing, or workflow remain unchanged in 2026 or apply identically to every Chiron variant. No current universal Chiron checklist is established by these accounts.
