Audi Traffic Light Information can help you approach a connected signal at a speed intended to reach it during a green phase. If you are stopped at red, it can show a countdown to the next green. That may make a sequence of green lights easier to catch, but it is not a promise: signal timing, traffic, your route, legal speeds and local coverage all matter.
How Audi Traffic Light Information works
The system receives information from the traffic computer that controls connected signals. Audi describes two functions: Green Light Optimized Speed Advisory (GLOSA) and Time-to-Green. The first gives the driver a recommended approach speed; the second displays the time remaining until the next green when the vehicle is stopped at a red light. Audi presents both as information to support a more anticipatory driving style and smoother traffic flow. Audi’s explanation of the service and its Audi connect description outline these functions.
Speed advice while approaching
When the system can provide a recommendation, GLOSA indicates an appropriate speed for reaching the next connected signal during its green phase. The recommendation is informational; the driver remains responsible for controlling the vehicle and following the speed limit.
A countdown while waiting
If the signal is red and a green arrival is not possible within the speed limit, Audi says the system can show the remaining wait until the next green. It helps you anticipate when traffic may start moving, rather than requiring you to guess from the signal alone.

Can it help you catch multiple green lights?
Potentially, if connected signals along your route are coordinated and traffic conditions allow you to travel at the recommended pace. That is the practical idea behind a “green wave”: arriving at successive signals during green phases. Traffic Light Information does not guarantee that outcome. A red light, congestion, a change in signal timing, turning traffic or any need to slow or stop can break the sequence.
Signal forecasts are also difficult because some lights adapt their intervals to traffic volume. In Audi’s 2019 press information, Andre Hainzlmaier, then head of development for Apps, Connected Services and Smart City, said: “To do this, we have to predict precisely how traffic lights will behave in the next two minutes.” The comment helps explain why an advisory should be treated as a useful estimate, not a promise that every signal will stay green.

Where it is available—and what to check
Audi’s U.S. notice says the feature “Requires compatible traffic infrastructure which is not available in all areas.” Availability therefore depends on both the vehicle’s equipment and connected signals in the places you drive. The official information cited here does not establish a complete, current list of eligible models, trims, model years, service packages or covered intersections worldwide.
- Check your vehicle’s equipment and Owner’s Manual for the feature’s availability and limitations.
- Review the connected-service terms for your market.
- Check whether compatible signal coverage exists along your usual routes; a vehicle equipped for the service cannot provide it at an unconnected intersection.
Audi also reported a 15 percent fuel-consumption reduction in a 2019 pilot project. That is Audi’s result for that project, not an independent finding or a typical or guaranteed saving for owners. Audi’s 2019 press information describes the pilot.

Traffic Light Information is not automatic braking
Traffic Light Information provides signal-related information to the driver. Audi’s U.S. materials do not establish that it automatically brakes for red lights or controls acceleration. It is distinct from Traffic Jam Assist, which Audi describes as a separate system that can assist with acceleration, braking and lane guidance under specified conditions. Audi’s U.S. disclaimer says: “This feature is not a substitute for attentive driving. Always pay careful attention to the road and obey all speed and traffic laws.” Follow signs, signals and the actual conditions around you even if the display recommends a particular speed or shows time remaining.

Audi UK’s data-protection notice says the vehicle uses its current location/GPS position to query relevant nearby connected intersections and sends crossing data to Audi IT systems after passing an intersection with a connected traffic light.
