Which two Audi hybrid models did the company announce?
In a May 6, 2025 announcement, Audi introduced plug-in-hybrid versions of the A6 in two body styles: the A6 Sedan e-hybrid quattro and the A6 Avant e-hybrid quattro. The Avant is Audi’s wagon body style; the Sedan is the four-door saloon. Each was announced in 220 kW and 270 kW system-output versions. Audi’s A6 announcement describes specifications and market details for Germany, which may differ elsewhere.
What does “e-hybrid” mean here?
These A6s are plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), not merely mild hybrids. Their battery can be charged from an external power source, allowing electric-only driving before the combustion engine is needed. Audi announced a 25.9 kWh gross battery capacity, 20.7 kWh net capacity, and an electric range of up to 106 km. Those are manufacturer figures, not results from an independent real-world range test.

Audi announced the same two output choices for both body styles. The release does not establish that one is the better choice for every driver; the practical distinction is the body style, alongside configuration-specific details. The quoted range is an “up to” figure for the A6 e-hybrids, not a guarantee for every version or driving condition.

What did Audi mean by “more on the way”?
On March 18, 2025, Audi CEO Gernot Döllner said the company planned to launch ten new plug-in-hybrid models by the end of that year. It was an announced year-end target, not evidence by itself that all ten reached customers or were offered in every market. Audi’s March strategy announcement also said the A5 plug-in hybrid would be presented on March 25.
Audi’s April 15 first-quarter update said the A3 and A5 PHEVs, each available in two body styles, had already hit the market, and that the A6 Sedan and Avant would follow in May. The April update provides that timeline as Audi stated it then.

Other announced 2025 plug-in hybrids
- A5: Audi’s March 25 announcement covered A5 Sedan and Avant e-hybrid quattro models in 220 kW and 270 kW versions, with electric range stated as up to 110 km. That figure belongs to the A5, not the A6. Audi’s A5 announcement quotes Döllner saying the company was significantly expanding its plug-in-hybrid range in 2025. It also quotes Technical Development board member Geoffrey Bouquot saying the increased electric range of the new PHEVs enables customers to cover the majority of daily journeys using electric power; that is Audi’s executive claim, not an independent finding.
- Q5: Audi announced Q5 SUV and Q5 Sportback e-hybrid models in June, with 220 kW and 270 kW versions and electric range stated as up to 100 km. Audi said European orders were due to open in mid-June 2025, with the initial launch planned for the third quarter. These are historical plans, not current stock or ordering information. Audi’s Q5 announcement covers those models specifically.
What should buyers know about availability and specifications?
The A6 announcement dates to 2025. Its equipment, data, and prices refer to Germany, and Audi noted that details may change. The cited announcements do not establish current ordering status, pricing, or availability in every country. Check Audi’s local market information for present-day details before making a purchase decision. Range, equipment, and emissions figures can vary by market and configuration.
