What is the Brataroo 9500 Turbo?
The Brataroo is a purpose-built Gymkhana vehicle that reimagines the shape and spirit of Subaru’s 1978 BRAT. Hoonigan and Subaru Motorsports USA unveiled it at SEMA on November 4, 2025, with Vermont SportsCar serving as technical partner and builder. Subaru describes it as a Gymkhana build—not a factory model or a new BRAT offered for sale. Subaru’s announcement gives the car’s identity and specifications.
Its name nods to the original BRAT, but the resemblance is a design lineage rather than a claim that the classic model has returned. The Brataroo uses a competition-oriented chassis and carbon-fiber bodywork, not a production-car platform presented as a new consumer vehicle.

These are manufacturer-published figures and descriptions, not independent instrumented test results. Subaru calls the Brataroo its highest-revving Gymkhana car to date; that is the company’s characterization, rather than an independently verified comparison.

Travis Pastrana drove it in Gymkhana: Aussie Shred
Pastrana drove the Brataroo in Gymkhana: Aussie Shred, which premiered December 9, 2025. Subaru says the Australia-set film includes the Outback, Sydney Harbour, and Mount Panorama at Bathurst. The car’s all-wheel-drive setup, sequential gearbox, and high-revving turbocharged engine are part of its purpose-built competition configuration, rather than specifications intended to describe a road-going BRAT.
In Hoonigan’s Brataroo feature, Pastrana is quoted as saying, “This BRAT’s completely unhinged, in the best way possible.”

How did the Brataroo do at Goodwood?
Subaru’s July 2026 recap says the Brataroo finished second in the Shoot-Out Modified class and sixth overall at the 2026 Festival of Speed Hillclimb Shootout. That result is Subaru’s event report; it should not be confused with a road-car performance test or a production-car ranking.

The available descriptions identify the Brataroo as a purpose-built Gymkhana vehicle, not a production Subaru or a consumer model with a published retail price. Hoonigan’s store lists Aussie Shred merchandise, including a Brat profile T-shirt, but that is merchandise rather than a Brataroo vehicle or parts listing: Hoonigan’s Aussie Shred collection.
