In sales terms, yes: Honda’s GM-developed Prologue found substantial U.S. customer uptake. But the available figures do not show whether the collaboration made Honda money, and the Prologue is set to leave the lineup after the 2026 model year.
What Honda and GM’s collaboration delivered
The clearest result of Honda and General Motors’ EV collaboration was the Honda Prologue, an electric SUV developed through the companies’ earlier work together. It gave Honda a volume electric vehicle without waiting for a wholly Honda-developed EV platform—a practical strategic benefit, though not a quantified cost or time saving. GM and Honda’s April 5, 2022 announcement described the Prologue and Acura’s first EV SUV as products of their earlier collaboration.
That announcement also outlined a separate, later initiative: a series of affordable EVs based on a global architecture using GM’s next-generation Ultium battery technology, then expected to begin sales in North America in 2027. The plan should not be confused with a delivered lineup; the announcement is evidence of the companies’ intention at that time, not proof that those vehicles reached market. GM and Honda also cited more than 13 million vehicles in annual global compact-crossover volume, a historical estimate from their 2022 announcement rather than a current market measurement.
How many Prologues did Honda sell?
American Honda’s 2026 factbook records 33,017 Prologues sold in the United States in 2024 and 39,194 in 2025. The 2025 total was higher, but 2024 was the Prologue’s first, partial sales year, so the difference is not a like-for-like measure of demand growth.

In March 2025, Honda described the Prologue as the best-selling non-Tesla EV in the United States in the fourth quarter of 2024. That is Honda’s own ranking claim, not an independently verified comparison here. Honda’s 2025 product release also said the vehicle had an EPA-estimated range of up to 308 miles—12 miles more than the prior model—and came in EX, Touring, and Elite trims. The range is a manufacturer estimate for the model year; configuration and driving conditions affect actual range. Honda said 2025 pricing was unchanged, but that does not establish current pricing or availability.
For context, American Honda reported 1,430,577 total U.S. vehicle sales in 2025. That company-wide figure helps show the scale of Honda’s business, but it does not reveal the Prologue program’s financial contribution.

What the sales figures can—and cannot—prove
The annual totals establish that the Prologue achieved meaningful sales volume. They do not establish whether Honda earned a profit on the vehicle, recovered its investment, or received a lasting financial return from the GM collaboration. The cited sales figures contain no per-vehicle margin, program-cost, or return-on-investment data. Strong customer uptake is evidence of product traction, not proof of profitability.
Momentum also appears to have weakened in 2026. GM Authority reported on July 17, 2026 that U.S. Prologue sales in the first half of that year were about 8,400, roughly half the volume in the same period a year earlier. That is a secondary-source estimate, not an official Honda sales-table figure.

What happens to the Prologue after 2026?
The same GM Authority report said a Honda spokesperson, speaking to CarBuzz, stated: “Honda will conclude sales of Prologue later this year following completion of the 2026 model year.” The report said the spokesperson also confirmed that owners would continue to receive service, parts, and warranty coverage through Honda’s dealer network. The reported end of sales makes the Prologue a notable but short-lived product outcome rather than evidence of a durable Honda EV line.
GM Authority also reported that production of the Acura ZDX ended after one model year. Separately, Honda’s January 2026 electrification outlook included the Prologue in its then-current lineup and described the company’s 2026 product roadmap. That earlier outlook predates the July report and does not establish plans beyond the 2026 model year.

As a way to put a substantial number of electric SUVs in Honda customers’ hands, the GM-platform collaboration delivered a visible result: the Prologue recorded tens of thousands of U.S. sales in each of its first two recorded calendar years. As a long-term product strategy or financial success, the verdict is less certain. The reported phaseout after the 2026 model year limits the case for durability, while the available figures do not disclose profitability or investment recovery.
