The Honda XL750 Transalp and BMW F 800 GS overlap as middleweight adventure-tourers, but their published specifications point to different priorities. The Transalp has 21/18-inch spoked wheels, longer stated suspension travel and a lower published weight; the BMW has a lower standard seat and lists touring-focused equipment such as heated grips and hand protectors as standard in the US. Those are configuration differences, not proof that one will outperform the other on a particular road or trail.
Specifications and equipment vary by market and model year. This comparison labels Honda figures by the specific UK or US listing and uses BMW Motorrad USA’s current technical data; check the exact local model and options before buying.

These are manufacturer-published specifications, not controlled comparative measurements. Engine figures use different units and markets; avoid treating them as a direct performance test. The Honda weight figures also differ by year and version, while the manufacturers use different labels for their weight measurements.
Which is better off road?
The Transalp’s 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheels, together with its stated 200 mm front and 190 mm rear travel on the UK listing, are clear configuration cues for riders prioritizing rougher roads and trail-oriented tire choices. The BMW’s US specification lists smaller 19/17-inch cast wheels. Wheel size and construction can shape tire availability and intended use, but they do not establish comparative grip, comfort, or off-road ability.

BMW’s cited US technical page does not give suspension travel, so a travel comparison cannot be completed from that source. For a decision based on trail use, compare the exact local bikes, tires and equipment, and consider a test ride on suitable terrain rather than relying on dimensions alone.
Which has the lower seat height?
The BMW F 800 GS has the lower standard seat in the cited US specifications: 32.1 inches versus 33.7 inches for the US Transalp. BMW lists several lower-seat configurations, including OE lowering to 30 inches; Honda’s US listing shows an optional 32.6-inch accessory seat.

Seat height alone does not determine how easily a rider can put a foot down. Seat width and shape, suspension sag, footwear, and inseam all affect reach. Sit on the exact configuration or arrange a test ride before choosing based on fit.
Which is lighter?
The Honda has the lower published weight figures in the cited listings, but the comparison needs careful labeling. Honda lists the 2025 US model at 463 lb curb and the 2026 US E-Clutch at 468 lb curb with a full tank and required fluids; its UK 2026 E-Clutch listing gives 216 kg kerb. BMW USA lists the F 800 GS at 500 lb road-ready, fully fueled, with operating fluids and standard equipment. Because model years, versions and measurement labels differ, verify the exact bike’s stated weight rather than treating the numbers as perfectly standardized.

What equipment and features differ?
Honda Transalp
Honda’s UK 2026 page lists RoadSync connectivity, USB-C, LED lighting and HSTC. The US 2025 page lists five ride modes and a 5-inch display. For the US 2026 E-Clutch, Honda lists adjustable suspension damping and its automated clutch system. These descriptions refer to different market and model-year pages, so they should not be combined into one universal equipment list.
BMW F 800 GS
BMW USA lists a 6.5-inch TFT with connectivity, ABS Pro, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Rain and Road modes, hand protectors, heated grips, LED lighting, and a 12 V/USB socket as standard. Dynamic ESA, Riding Modes Pro and Shift Assistant Pro are listed as options. BMW notes that specifications may change without notice.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does the Transalp have a quickshifter or E-Clutch?
The cited 2026 UK and US Honda listings identify an E-Clutch version. Honda describes the system as automatically engaging and disengaging the clutch so the rider can shift without using the clutch lever; the rider can also operate the clutch lever manually at any time. That is not the same as assuming every XL750 Transalp has E-Clutch: Honda also lists a 2025 UK manual model, and availability depends on market and model year. Check the specific bike’s specification if you want this feature.

Transalp vs F 800 GS price: what can be compared?
Honda UK lists £9,999 for the 2026 XL750 Transalp E-Clutch and £9,899 for the 2025 manual Transalp. The cited BMW USA technical-data page gives no price, so these sources do not establish a same-market price winner. Quick Recap
How to choose between the Transalp and F 800 GS
- Prioritize the Transalp for its published configuration if 21/18-inch spoked wheels, longer stated suspension travel, or the 2026 E-Clutch version are central to your shortlist.
- Prioritize the BMW for its published configuration if a lower standard seat, lower-seat options, or the listed standard touring equipment are important to your fit and setup.
- Compare exact weights and fit in person because Honda’s listed figures vary by year and E-Clutch version, and seat reach depends on more than the nominal height.
- Get market-specific quotes and verify options, trim and included equipment before judging total value.
