Honda’s 2026 U.S. specifications also list a 350-pound capacity for the Ridgeline’s heavy-duty bed tie-down cleats. That is a cleat rating, not a vehicle payload or towing limit. Anyone securing cargo should check the specific anchor, attachment and load ratings rather than treating the cleat figure as permission to load the truck beyond its rated capacity.

For bed cargo, tie-down straps are a general accessory worth considering, but compatibility cannot be assumed for an unannounced Honda model. Check that a strap’s hooks or fittings work with the truck’s actual anchor points, and follow both the strap and vehicle ratings. Why might a shared pickup make sense?

Mitsubishi’s chief product specialist Yoshiki Masuda characterized the development of the documented Triton this way: “Having the full model change of all-new Triton for the first time in about nine years, we have newly developed the engine, suspension, interior and exterior, which has resulted in significant improvements in driving performance, comfort and safety.” That is Mitsubishi’s account of its own development program, not an independent comparison with the Ridgeline or a promise about a Honda derivative.
Honda’s next Ridgeline is a separate confirmed program
On July 23, 2026, Honda announced that a third-generation Ridgeline was in development and expected to reach the market within two years. Honda said the vehicle would be designed at its Southern California styling studio, engineered at its Ohio Auto Development Center and built at its Alabama plant. The announcement did not mention Mitsubishi, the Triton or a shared platform.
That announcement and the Triton report should be kept separate. Honda has confirmed development of a new Ridgeline, but the stated timing is a forward-looking estimate, not a guaranteed calendar-date launch. The company has not presented that Ridgeline as a Triton-based model. Honda’s stated U.S. design, engineering and assembly arrangements also do not establish a relationship to the reported sourcing proposal.

The Ridgeline announcement does not reveal the next generation’s final specifications, either. The 2026 U.S. figures in this comparison are a baseline for that model year; they should not be carried forward as promised power, towing, payload or bed specifications for the vehicle Honda is developing. A future Ridgeline could only be compared with a Honda-badged Triton once each vehicle’s relevant model-year and market details are published.
A separate Honda–Nissan body-on-frame rumor is not confirmation of a Triton deal either. Auto123 reported that a Honda spokesperson called the claimed potential body-on-frame models speculative. The 2024 Honda–Nissan–Mitsubishi memorandum of understanding it discussed concerned standardized components, vehicle operating systems and electric-vehicle software, rather than confirming traditional truck-platform sharing. Neither item resolves whether Honda will source Triton units.
What a fair comparison would need
If either automaker confirms the proposal, look for published specifications for the actual Honda version and the Triton sold in the same country and model year. Market and trim matter: a number from a U.S. Ridgeline specification sheet cannot answer what a Southeast Asian buyer would get from a different vehicle.

- Off-road and clearance details: Check ground clearance and approach and departure geometry for the versions actually offered.
- Ownership and equipment: Compare cabin and safety equipment, fuel economy, price, warranty and service support in each country.
- Availability: Verify the confirmed nameplate, sales countries and timing directly with the automaker or a local distributor.
For towing and payload, the useful detail is not only the headline maximum. A buyer should confirm which trim and configuration the rating applies to, and the manufacturer’s conditions for that rating. For cargo, bed volume alone does not say how long or wide the bed is, where the anchors sit or what loads they can secure. Those details can change the practical usefulness of a pickup even when two trucks appear similar on paper.
Ownership questions also need local answers. A vehicle’s price, warranty, service coverage and fuel economy are meaningful only for the country and version being considered. The report does not identify confirmed countries, prices or Honda-specific ownership terms, so it cannot yet show whether a Honda badge would bring different dealer support or a different cost of ownership.
