For a petrol-CVT buyer, the Kia Seltos returned better mileage in Autocar India’s February 2026 road test, while the Honda Elevate has a slightly larger published boot capacity and a petrol-only, two-transmission range. The Seltos also offers more powertrain and trim choices, so the better fit depends on the exact variant, fuel and equipment you want—not just the model name. Compare the configurations you would actually buy, then verify their current prices and equipment with the manufacturers or dealers.
At a glance: which SUV suits which buyer?
The choice is clearest when you start with your priorities. The Elevate is available with a 1.5-litre petrol engine and either a six-speed manual or CVT. The Seltos range includes naturally aspirated petrol, turbo-petrol and diesel options, with equipment varying by trim and powertrain. That wider range gives Seltos shoppers more ways to configure a car, but it also makes a model-to-model comparison easy to misread.

- Consider the Seltos petrol-CVT if fuel economy from the comparable petrol-automatic test matters most: it averaged 12.26 kmpl in Autocar India’s February 2026 test, against 10.85 kmpl for the Elevate petrol-CVT.
- Consider the Elevate if you want a petrol-only choice, value its published 458-litre boot figure, or prefer its available manual transmission alongside the CVT.
- Look closely at Seltos trims if a specific screen, sound system, climate-control feature or automatic-only driving aid is important; availability depends on the grade and, in some cases, powertrain.
- Do not choose on a claimed safety winner from these equipment lists. The listed features do not establish which exact Indian-market version performs better in a crash test.
These are decision cues, not a universal ranking. A diesel Seltos, for example, is a different fuel-cost proposition from the petrol-CVT pair discussed in the road test.
Powertrains: compare the version you will actually drive
Honda Elevate: one engine, manual or CVT
Honda Cars India describes the Elevate as using a 1.5-litre i-VTEC DOHC petrol engine, paired with either a six-speed manual or a CVT. Honda’s official FAQ explicitly says the Elevate is not offered with a diesel engine in India. If your shortlist depends on a diesel, or on choosing between petrol, turbo-petrol and diesel versions, the Elevate cannot match that range.

Autocar India’s petrol-CVT test specifications list the Elevate at 121 hp and 145 Nm. Those figures describe the tested engine configuration; they should not be used to infer how it compares with a different Seltos powertrain or transmission.
Kia Seltos: a wider range, with trim-dependent equipment
Autocar India describes the Seltos range as including naturally aspirated petrol, turbo-petrol and diesel engines. Its February 2026 mileage comparison paired the naturally aspirated petrol-CVT Seltos with the petrol-CVT Elevate. The tested Seltos was listed at 115 hp and 144 Nm.
Because the Seltos spans more engine and trim combinations, confirm both the engine and transmission before comparing its price, mileage or features with an Elevate. A diesel or turbo-petrol Seltos is not the like-for-like counterpart to the naturally aspirated petrol-CVT used in the road test. Equipment can also vary by grade, and some listed driving features are restricted to automatic variants.

- Choose the fuel first. Decide whether petrol is right for your routes and expected annual distance, or whether you need the Seltos’s diesel choice. The Elevate is petrol-only.
- Choose the transmission. If you want a manual, the Elevate offers a six-speed manual. For automatics, compare the exact petrol-CVT versions before extending the result to other Seltos powertrains.
- Set a variant-level budget. Compare the ex-showroom and on-road quote for the exact grade, engine and transmission in your city—not a starting price against a top-trim price.
- List must-have equipment. Check the current official feature matrix for the specific Seltos grade, and check the Elevate’s equipment for the version under consideration.
Petrol-CVT mileage: what the February 2026 test measured
Autocar India’s road test, published on 11 February 2026, reported better fuel economy for the petrol-CVT Seltos than for the petrol-CVT Elevate in all three of its published comparisons:
| Autocar India test result, 11 February 2026 | Kia Seltos petrol-CVT | Honda Elevate petrol-CVT |
|---|---|---|
| City mileage | 10.31 kmpl | 8.60 kmpl |
| Highway mileage | 14.22 kmpl | 13.10 kmpl |
| Average mileage | 12.26 kmpl | 10.85 kmpl |
| Fuel-tank capacity | 47 litres | 40 litres |
| Test-derived range | 576.22 km | 434 km |
The reported average advantage was 1.41 kmpl in favour of the Seltos. These are results from one publication’s test, not guaranteed owner figures or a promise that every Seltos will use less fuel than every Elevate. City congestion, route, speed, passenger and luggage load, weather, driving style and fuel quality can change real-world consumption. The test-derived ranges also follow from the test and tank figures; they are not a dependable estimate of how far a particular owner can travel before refuelling.

How the test was conducted—and what it does not establish
Autocar India says it began with full tanks, set tyre pressures to the manufacturers’ recommendations, and used fixed city and highway loops around Navi Mumbai while maintaining average speeds. The publication refilled after each cycle and describes driver swaps. That common procedure makes the two reported results more useful as a relative comparison than figures drawn from unrelated tests, but it still represents those cars, routes and conditions on that occasion.
The test covered petrol-CVT versions only. It does not establish the mileage of a manual Elevate, a Seltos diesel, or a Seltos turbo-petrol. Nor does it give a complete ownership-cost comparison: fuel is only one cost, alongside insurance, maintenance, tyres, depreciation and finance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesEstimate fuel spend for your own use
Use a realistic mileage assumption for your routes and a current local fuel price rather than turning the test average into a universal annual saving. The calculation is:
Annual fuel spend = annual kilometres ÷ your assumed kmpl × local fuel price per litre.
For example, use your own annual distance, a conservative mileage estimate that reflects your mix of traffic and highway driving, and the fuel price you actually pay. Run the calculation separately for each shortlisted powertrain. This is a scenario estimate, not a measured ownership cost; changing any of those assumptions changes the result.

Space and everyday practicality
Published boot capacity
Honda lists 458 litres of boot capacity for the Elevate. Kia’s current official Seltos specification page lists 447 litres. On those published figures, the Elevate’s nominal capacity is 11 litres greater.
That small numerical gap does not prove that the Elevate will carry more of your luggage. A published capacity figure cannot answer whether a particular suitcase, stroller or work case fits easily, whether the shape of the load area suits your needs, or how usable the space is with the rear seats occupied. If boot fit is a deciding factor, take the items you normally carry to a showroom and load them into both vehicles.
Rear-seat equipment and passenger checks
Kia lists a 60:40 split rear seat with recline function and a rear centre armrest with cup holders on specified Seltos trims; the equipment is not universal across the range. Check that the exact variant you are quoted includes the feature. For either model, sit in the rear with the passengers who will use it most often and assess the seating position and access for yourselves. A specification list or boot-volume number is not a substitute for that fit check.
Features: the Seltos range needs a trim-by-trim check
Kia’s official specifications show substantial equipment differences between Seltos grades. Examples listed on specified versions include a 26.04 cm touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, six speakers, a rear camera and rear air vents. Higher equipment levels add items such as a larger display, dual-zone climate control, a wireless charger, Bose audio and Kia Connect. These examples are not a promise that every Seltos includes them; match each requirement to the current official feature matrix for the exact grade.
Kia also lists drive modes, traction modes and paddle shifters among equipment limited to automatic variants, with availability depending on powertrain and grade. If one of these matters, check the exact variant rather than assuming it comes with every automatic Seltos.

The supplied Honda specifications establish the Elevate’s engine, transmission choices, boot capacity and safety equipment, but do not provide a directly comparable, complete convenience-feature matrix for both models. It would therefore be misleading to declare one car the features winner from the examples above. Ask the dealer for the current variant-specific equipment list, then compare the features you will actually use—rather than counting headline items across differently equipped versions.
A practical feature-checklist before booking
- Confirm the exact trim and powertrain shown on the quotation.
- Verify that each desired screen, phone-connectivity, audio, climate-control and rear-seat feature is fitted to that grade.
- For Seltos drive modes, traction modes or paddle shifters, confirm availability on the specific automatic powertrain and trim.
- Check whether the quoted car has the listed equipment as standard for that variant, rather than relying on a feature shown for a different grade.
Safety equipment is not the same as crash-test evidence
Honda’s official Elevate safety list includes six airbags, an ACE body structure, LaneWatch camera, hill-start assist, a multi-angle rear camera, emergency stop signal and rear parking sensors. This inventory helps identify equipment Honda lists for the model, but it does not by itself establish crashworthiness or a comparative safety result.
The available information does not establish directly comparable crash-test ratings for the exact Indian-market versions of both cars. A result for another generation, market or test protocol should not be presented as if it settles the comparison between the cars currently sold in India. If independent crash performance is a deciding factor, verify that any rating you consult names the relevant version and test protocol. Separately, compare the exact variant’s safety equipment; a feature list and a crash-test result answer different questions.

Prices depend on date, variant and city
Honda Cars India’s official FAQ lists a starting Elevate price of ₹11,80,000 ex-showroom Delhi. That is a starting price for a particular market and pricing snapshot, not an on-road total or a quote for every variant. Registration, insurance, taxes and dealer charges affect what a buyer pays, and prices and offers can change. Get a current written quote for your city and the exact variant before comparing totals.
For petrol-CVT versions, Autocar India’s 11 February 2026 article reported ex-showroom price ranges of ₹13.39–19.49 lakh for the Seltos and ₹13.22–16.57 lakh for the Elevate. In that dated snapshot, the base Seltos petrol-CVT was ₹17,000 more than the base Elevate petrol-CVT, while the top Elevate petrol-CVT was ₹2.92 lakh less than the top Seltos petrol-CVT. These are editorial prices from that publication and date, not current dealer offers. They also show why a blanket claim that one model is always cheaper is unreliable: the comparison changes across the range.

Warranty and service information
Honda’s September 2024 Elevate e-brochure lists a standard three-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, optional extended warranty for years four and five, and a service interval of one year or 10,000 km, whichever comes first. Confirm the terms currently offered for the car you are buying with Honda; the brochure is dated, and warranty options or conditions can change.
Comparable current Kia warranty terms, service intervals and scheduled-service totals for both models are not established here. Without matching figures for the same period, distance and service scope, a precise maintenance-cost winner cannot be named. Ask both dealers for the applicable warranty booklet and service schedule, and request itemised maintenance estimates at the same ownership milestones.
What to include in your own ownership budget
The mileage test isolates fuel economy; it does not cover the full cost of keeping either vehicle. Build a separate budget using quotes and assumptions that apply to your situation:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Fuel for your annual distance and likely route mix.
- Insurance and registration costs for your location and chosen variant.
- Scheduled maintenance based on each car’s current service plan and the distance you expect to drive.
- Tyre replacement, finance charges and expected resale value, if these are material to your ownership period.
Keep the petrol-CVT test result in the fuel line of that calculation rather than treating it as a complete running-cost verdict.
How to make the final choice
- Remove unsuitable powertrains first. If you require a diesel, the Elevate is ruled out. If petrol is your choice, compare the same fuel and transmission wherever possible.
- Choose a budget ceiling using local quotes. Ask for ex-showroom and on-road figures for the exact variants, in the same city and at roughly the same time.
- Compare real equipment, not brochures for the model name. Mark each must-have feature against the current grade-specific specification, especially on the Seltos range.
- Test your space needs. Try your regular luggage in the boot and have usual passengers sit in the rear; published capacity is only one part of practicality.
- Estimate fuel and ownership costs separately. Use your own distance and fuel-price assumptions, then add itemised quotes for insurance and maintenance. Treat the February 2026 mileage figures as a controlled comparison, not a personal forecast.
- Assess safety evidence precisely. Distinguish the equipment fitted to a variant from a crash-test result that applies to the exact Indian version and protocol.
Verdict: The petrol-CVT Seltos has the stronger result in the cited mileage test and gives buyers a broader choice of powertrains and trim-dependent equipment. The Elevate offers a slightly higher published boot capacity, a manual option and a petrol-only line-up. The right purchase is the exact variant that fits your budget, fuel preference, equipment needs and real-world passenger and luggage use.
