Certified figures and road-test results describe different conditions, so they should not be treated as interchangeable.
Honda Elevate mileage: the figures, kept in context
The right number depends on which Elevate and which kind of measurement you mean. Honda’s certified figures are the figures reported for specified test conditions. Autocar India’s figures come from a publication road test of the earlier Elevate. Neither establishes exactly what an individual car will return on a particular commute.

The difference between Honda’s 2025 brochure and its October 2026 announcement matters when you look up the Elevate online: the earlier brochure lists 16.92 km/l for the CVT, while the 2026 announcement lists 16.61 km/l. Those are figures attached to different model-year announcements. Do not combine one year’s CVT number with another year’s manual figure or present either as the real-world result for all Elevates.
For the earlier car, Autocar’s tested city figures are substantially below its highway figures for both transmissions. That provides a useful indication of how the route affected that particular test; it does not specify the mileage an owner in any city should expect. The 2026 certified figures should likewise not be read as a prediction for stop-start traffic.

What Autocar’s real-world test measured
Autocar describes a repeatable road-test method rather than a survey of owners. Its tests used fixed city and highway routes, one occupant, the air conditioning on, and tire pressures at the manufacturer-recommended values. The fuel tank was filled to the brim before and after each run. The published results therefore give a controlled publication comparison across the stated routes, but they are not a statistical average across drivers, seasons, traffic patterns, or vehicles.
That distinction helps explain why a tested result is useful without being a promise. A fixed route and consistent procedure make a road test easier to compare internally than an informal report from a single commute. But a driver’s actual route can involve a different share of congestion, open-road travel, stops, and driving conditions. The test figures do not isolate the mileage penalty attributable to any one of those differences.
Autocar’s 2023 test returned 11 km/l combined for the manual and 10.8 km/l combined for the CVT. Its separate city and highway values were 8.7 and 13.3 km/l for the manual, and 8.6 and 13.1 km/l for the CVT. The combined result is not a substitute for either route-specific result; it summarizes the test’s combined driving and should not be assumed to match an owner’s city-to-highway mix.

Why city and highway mileage differ
Congestion and repeated stops
A commute with heavy traffic is not equivalent to Autocar’s fixed city route or Honda’s standard certification conditions. Congestion, road conditions, and the pattern of driving can change the result. The sources establish these as reasons mileage can vary, but they do not assign a particular km/l reduction to bumper-to-bumper traffic, a named city, or a particular commute length.
That is especially important when interpreting a question such as “Honda Elevate mileage in Bangalore bumper-to-bumper traffic?” The phrase appears as the title of an individual Reddit discussion, not as a representative survey result. It signals a practical concern, but it cannot establish a typical Bangalore figure. An owner’s report can be useful context for a similar route, but it should not be mistaken for a controlled test or a citywide average.
Road, climate, and maintenance
Honda’s February 2025 brochure explicitly cautions that stated mileage is based on standard test conditions and may vary with traffic, road and climate conditions, and adherence to the maintenance schedule. It does not quantify the separate effect of any item in that list. A reader should therefore treat these as conditions that can change fuel economy, not as a formula for predicting a specific figure.

The maintenance qualification also means that comparisons are most useful when both cars are maintained as scheduled. The cited sources do not establish a particular repair, service task, or consumable as a guaranteed way to raise mileage, nor do they quantify the improvement from a maintenance action.

Throttle response and gearing
In its explanation of the earlier road test, Autocar attributes fuel use in part to the Elevate’s sharp throttle response and shorter gearing than the City sedan, which keeps engine rpm higher. That is the publication’s explanation of the tested car; it is not a controlled measurement of how much each characteristic changes mileage, and it does not establish the effect for the 2026 model.
In the 2023 test, the manual returned slightly more than the CVT in both the combined result and the stated city and highway results. That test outcome does not prove that the manual will always be more economical. The earlier brochure’s certified figures instead put the CVT above the manual, and Honda’s 2026 announcement also lists a higher certified number for the CVT. A road-test result and a certified figure answer different questions, so the apparent disagreement is not a reliable basis for claiming that one transmission always wins in daily use.

How to compare manual and CVT mileage fairly
Start with the same Elevate model year and the same evidence type. Comparing the 2026 certified manual result with the 2025 brochure’s CVT result mixes both years and cannot tell you which transmission is more efficient for one model year. Similarly, a certified number for one transmission should not be compared as if it were equivalent to a city-only road-test result for the other.
- Match the model year. Use Honda’s 2026 announcement figures together for the New Elevate, or use the February 2025 brochure figures together for the earlier published configuration.
- Match the driving question. For city use, compare city results with city results; for highway use, compare highway with highway. A combined number depends on a test’s route mix and does not describe either route on its own.
- Identify the evidence. Label a number as Honda-certified, a publication road-test result, or an owner anecdote. The Autocar values are test outcomes; the Reddit title is not a survey finding.
- Compare the route and conditions. Congestion, roads, climate, maintenance, and driving inputs matter. A highway-heavy routine is not directly comparable with frequent stop-start travel.
- Use results as estimates, not promises. If choosing between transmissions, consider the certified figures alongside the route you actually drive; the available test does not establish a universal real-world winner.
Practical ways to make your own mileage comparison useful
The source figures do not support a guaranteed mileage gain from a specific driving habit or accessory. They do support making comparisons more consistent: Autocar used recommended tire pressures, fixed routes, and the same broad testing procedure, while Honda cautions that traffic, road, climate, and maintenance affect the result. Apply that principle when you assess your own car rather than treating one tank or one commute as a definitive verdict.

- Keep route comparisons like-for-like. Compare similar trips and traffic conditions, rather than comparing a congested weekday commute with a clear highway journey and attributing the entire difference to the car.
- Use smooth throttle inputs. This is a modest practical measure, not a quantified promise. The available sources do not state how many km/l it will add.
- Check tire pressure against the vehicle’s specified value. Autocar used manufacturer-recommended pressure in its test. The source does not show that a particular gauge or pressure adjustment produces a measured mileage improvement.
- Follow scheduled maintenance. Honda explicitly lists maintenance-schedule adherence among the conditions that can affect mileage, but does not quantify the effect of an individual service item.
- Record enough comparable trips to see a pattern. A single trip can reflect that trip’s traffic and road conditions; the cited road test does not provide an owner logbook method or a minimum number of trips, so treat your record as personal evidence rather than a published benchmark.
Honda’s brochure states: “The mileage figures are as per the standard test conditions and may vary subject to traffic/ road/ climate conditions and adherence to maintenance schedule.” The sentence is a useful reminder of the limits of any certified number, but it does not turn those variables into a specific prediction for an individual vehicle.

Which number should you use?
If you are considering a New Honda Elevate announced in October 2026, use Honda’s 15.31 km/l MT and 16.61 km/l CVT figures as its stated certified figures, not as expected mileage in your daily traffic. If you are evaluating the earlier Elevate, keep Honda’s February 2025 brochure figures—15.31 km/l MT and 16.92 km/l CVT—separate from Autocar’s 2023 test results. For a real-world point of reference on that earlier car, the Autocar values are the directly relevant published city, highway, and combined test measurements.
For an owner trying to estimate a specific commute, no cited figure here establishes a guaranteed result for that exact route. The most defensible expectation is conditional: a congested city routine may differ from a fixed publication test or standard certification cycle, and a highway-heavy journey differs from the tested city leg. Use the figures to understand the distinction and compare like with like, rather than treating any one number as a universal Elevate mileage claim.
