Honda revealed the Honda 0 Saloon and Honda 0 SUV prototypes, introduced its vehicle operating system called ASIMO OS, and outlined plans for Level 3 automated driving, future centralized vehicle computing, NACS charging, and home-energy services.

The original event was scheduled for Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. Pacific Time—or 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. Eastern—in Las Vegas. Honda described it as a press conference, although some coverage referred to it as a keynote. The YouTube link is now an archive rather than a live broadcast.

What Honda revealed at CES 2025
The central reveal was Honda’s next battery-electric vehicle family, the Honda 0 Series. Honda showed two prototype models:
- Honda 0 Saloon: a low, sporty flagship EV prototype based on the Saloon concept shown at CES 2024.
- Honda 0 SUV: a midsize electric SUV prototype derived from the Space-Hub concept shown at CES 2024.
Honda’s dedicated EV architecture and its “Thin, Light, and Wise” development philosophy underpin the 0 Series. The SUV was described as the first Honda 0 Series model, with a spacious cabin, broad visibility, and flexible interior space. The Saloon is positioned as the family’s more distinctive, performance-oriented flagship.

When were the Honda 0 Series vehicles supposed to arrive?
Honda said production versions were planned to begin entering global markets in 2026. Its more specific schedule called for:

Those were plans announced in January 2025, not guarantees of current availability or confirmation that every market would receive the same vehicle, equipment, or timing. Honda’s post-event release contains the company’s official launch sequencing.
What is the Honda 0 Series?
Honda 0 is a global family of battery-electric vehicles rather than one specific car. Honda introduced the family through the Saloon and Space-Hub concepts at CES 2024, then showed more production-oriented prototypes at CES 2025.

The distinction matters: the 2024 vehicles were concept models, while the 2025 vehicles were prototype models. Honda’s CES presentation previewed the design, technology, and development direction of future vehicles, but it did not establish the final specifications of production cars.

ASIMO OS explained
Honda introduced ASIMO OS, an original vehicle operating system intended for Honda 0 Series vehicles. The name references Honda’s ASIMO humanoid-robotics program; it does not mean the cars contain an ASIMO robot or that ASIMO OS itself is a fully autonomous-driving system.

Honda said ASIMO OS would:
- Integrate the vehicle’s electronic control units.
- Support automated driving and advanced driver-assistance functions.
- Work with the in-car infotainment system.
- Enable over-the-air software updates.
- Help deliver what Honda calls “ultra-personal optimization,” or a vehicle experience tailored to individual users.
The broader idea is a software-defined vehicle in which vehicle controls, driver assistance, infotainment, and personalization can be managed through a more integrated computing platform. The usefulness of that approach will depend on the software Honda ultimately delivers, update support, regional regulations, and the hardware fitted to each production model.

Honda’s Level 3 automated-driving plans
Honda said it planned to expand the use of Level 3 automated driving, initially targeting limited situations such as eyes-off operation during highway traffic congestion. It also said software updates could expand the range of supported conditions over time.
Level 3 is conditional automation, not unrestricted self-driving. In an approved operating domain, the system can perform the driving task and allow the driver to look away, but the driver may still be required to resume control when the system requests it. Availability depends on the vehicle, software, road, weather, legal framework, and other operating conditions.
Honda’s announcement therefore represented a development and deployment ambition—not a promise that every Honda 0 vehicle would offer eyes-off driving in every situation at launch. Honda also said it would use AI technology from Helm.ai and Honda-developed cooperative-AI research to improve assistance in difficult situations. Those are manufacturer claims, not independently validated performance results.
Honda and Renesas plan a future high-performance chip
Honda and Renesas announced an agreement to develop a high-performance system-on-chip for future Honda 0 Series models planned for the late 2020s.

The proposed architecture would use a central core electronic control unit to manage functions including:
- Automated driving and driver assistance.
- Powertrain control.
- Comfort features.
Honda and Renesas described a chiplet-based system targeting approximately 2,000 TOPS of sparse AI performance and 20 TOPS/W of power efficiency. These are development targets for a planned future-generation platform. They should not be treated as specifications for the first production Honda 0 vehicles or as a guarantee of real-world performance.

Honda also outlined an energy strategy for the 0 Series, including expanded public charging access, home-energy management, and vehicle-grid integration.
IONNA charging access
Honda is participating in IONNA, a charging-network joint venture involving American Honda, BMW Group, General Motors, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, and Toyota. Honda said IONNA had a goal of at least 30,000 charging stations by 2030.

That is a future access projection, not the number available at vehicle launch, and charging availability will vary by country and region.

NACS charging ports
Honda said the Honda 0 Series would adopt the North American Charging Standard for charging ports. This statement is particularly relevant to North American vehicles; charging connectors and network arrangements may differ in other markets.
Home charging and vehicle-grid integration
Honda discussed systems that could charge vehicles during lower-cost or renewable-energy periods and potentially discharge stored energy for household or grid use. These ideas include home-energy management and vehicle-grid integration, sometimes called VGI.
Honda said its internal research found that home charging represented approximately 80% of EV charging. That figure is Honda’s own research claim and should not be assumed to be a universal independent statistic. Actual home-energy features will also depend on compatible equipment, utility programs, software, local rules, and regional availability.
What Honda did not announce
The CES 2025 presentation did not provide a complete retail launch specification for either prototype. In particular, Honda did not confirm:
- Final U.S. pricing or trim levels.
- EPA-rated driving range.
- Production charging speed or charging time.
- Final battery capacity.
- Definitive retail-sale dates for every region.
- Which prototype features would survive unchanged into production.
- Whether every planned automated-driving or energy feature would be available at launch.
Prototype styling, equipment, software capabilities, and regional configurations can change before production. Future over-the-air features and energy services also depend on engineering, infrastructure, regulatory approval, and market-specific partnerships.
Why the CES 2025 presentation mattered
Honda’s CES appearance was less a conventional vehicle launch than a preview of how the company wants its future EVs to work. The 0 Saloon and 0 SUV supplied the visible product direction, while ASIMO OS, centralized computing, automated-driving research, and energy-management plans supplied the software and technology strategy behind them.
For shoppers, the important distinction is between what Honda showed and what it promised. The vehicles were prototypes; the 2026 arrival schedule was a plan; the Level 3 capability was limited to defined conditions; and the Renesas performance figures applied to a future-generation chip target. The official replay remains the best way to see the presentation, while Honda’s event announcement and post-event release provide the company’s written account.
