Honda CB650R: The 649cc Inline-Four Naked Bike That May Cost Less Than It Looks

The Honda CB650R is a 649cc inline-four naked bike. Its used-market listings can make it more accessible than its styling suggests, but compare condition and full local costs.

The motorcycle most likely meant by “700cc inline-four naked moto” is the Honda CB650R. Its actual displacement is 649cc, and Honda describes it as a naked street motorcycle. The price can look more approachable on the used market than its muscular styling suggests—but “less expensive” depends on whether you mean a new bike’s list price, a used asking price, or the final cost after local fees.

Which motorcycle is the 700cc inline-four naked bike?

The likely match is the Honda CB650R: a liquid-cooled, 649cc inline-four naked motorcycle. Calling it a 700cc bike is a loose approximation, not its official displacement.

That engine layout is part of the distinction. For example, the Yamaha MT-07 is a 689cc inline twin, not an inline-four. Its displacement is nearer 700cc, but it is a different cylinder configuration.

What does a new CB650R cost?

Honda’s US specification page lists the 2025 CB650R E-Clutch at a $9,399 base MSRP, plus $600 destination. That is a dated, model-specific list price—not a quote for a 2026 motorcycle or an out-the-door price. Local taxes, dealer charges, registration, and any available incentives can change what a buyer pays.

For context, the prices below are manufacturer-listed US figures for different model years and configurations. They are useful reference points, not a controlled comparison of equivalent equipment or final purchase costs.

Motorcycle Engine Listed price Price source and qualification
Honda CB650R E-Clutch, 2025 649cc liquid-cooled inline-four $9,399 base MSRP + $600 destination Honda Powersports, 2025
Yamaha MT-07, 2026 689cc liquid-cooled inline twin $8,599 starting MSRP + $675 destination Yamaha Motorsports, 2026
Kawasaki Z650 S ABS, 2026 Not stated on the cited price source $7,699 base MSRP Kawasaki USA, 2026

The CB650R’s listed price is higher than these two reference prices, but the comparison mixes model years and configurations. The Yamaha’s 2026 equipment listing includes radially mounted front brake calipers, 41mm inverted forks, and SpinForged wheels; it remains a twin-cylinder alternative rather than a direct engine-layout match. The Kawasaki figure is for the 2026 Z650 S ABS, not a different model year’s Z650 specification sheet.

Can you find a CB650R for less on the used market?

Used listings give buyers a lower entry-price route, but listing prices and valuations are not the same as completed-sale prices. Motorcycles on Autotrader’s 2026 inventory snapshot showed CB650R listings from $6,499 to $10,460, with an $8,110 average among the listings on that page. Inventory changes, and this small, changing sample does not establish what bikes actually sold for.

Kelley Blue Book’s 2026-accessed valuation put a 2021 CB650R in good condition with typical mileage at a typical listing price of $5,430. That figure applies to the stated year and condition; it is not a value for every CB650R or a guaranteed offer.

Edwards Oil Change Kit fits 2024-2025 Honda CB650R Motorcycle

Another reference, 1000PS, listed average market estimates of $6,941 for 2022, $7,613 for 2023, $8,647 for 2024, and $8,653 for 2025 when its page was crawled in 2026. These are that publisher’s estimates, not US dealer quotes, so treat them as broad context rather than local asking prices.

How to judge the price of a specific bike

Compare like with like before deciding whether a CB650R is a bargain. A used listing should be assessed against bikes of similar year, mileage, condition, and location—not against a new-bike MSRP alone.

  1. Confirm the exact model and year. Check that the listing is for a CB650R, and verify the year and any equipment or edition differences.
  2. Compare the right kind of price. Separate a manufacturer’s base MSRP from destination charges, marketplace asking prices, valuation estimates, and the seller’s final quote.
  3. Inspect the bike’s history and condition. Review service records, mileage, ownership and damage records, and have the motorcycle inspected before purchase. A low asking price does not establish that an individual bike is a good deal.
  4. Calculate local out-the-door cost. Ask the seller or dealer for an itemized total that includes destination where applicable, taxes, registration, and dealer fees. Add any costs specific to the transaction before comparing offers.
  5. Compare alternatives by layout and equipment. The MT-07’s inline twin and the CB650R’s inline-four offer a different engine configuration; price alone does not make them equivalent options.

What the price evidence does—and does not—show

The available figures support a relative case: a used CB650R can be listed below the price of a new example, and the 2025 Honda’s base price was below $10,000 before destination. They do not establish that every CB650R is cheap to buy, that it will cost less to own over time, or that a particular listing is fairly priced.

The cited prices are US-centered and time-specific. They do not establish current availability or pricing in other countries, and they do not include a comparable analysis of insurance, fuel, maintenance, or repair costs.
