The 70mai A810S is a 4K front dash cam built around Sony’s STARVIS 2 IMX678 sensor, but the available evidence does not establish it as the new king of night vision. 70mai promotes its Night Owl Vision processing for low-light recording; one reviewer found the A810S’s night improvement over the older A810 modest, while another reviewer scored its night video 7/10. Those observations are useful, but they are not a standardized comparison against the whole market.
What the 70mai A810S records
70mai specifies front video at 3840×2160P and identifies the sensor as a Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678. The EU product page lists 4K recording at 30 frames per second. This is a 4K front camera, not a dual-4K system: compatible rear cameras record at 1080p.
The US specification lists a 3-inch IPS screen, F1.7 aperture, Wi-Fi 6 on 2.4GHz, voice control, Type-C power, and a supercapacitor plus button cell. 70mai gives an operating temperature range of −10°C to 60°C. The manufacturer also lists GPS, HDR, collision detection, AI motion detection, time-lapse recording, Lumi Vision, and 4G compatibility. These are listed capabilities; what is included or usable can depend on the region and configuration. See the 70mai US A810S specifications.
Rear-camera options
The EU product page lists two compatible rear-camera choices: RC24, an interior camera, and RC23, an exterior backup camera. Both are 1080p options. Check the exact bundle and regional compatibility before buying; the A810S front camera’s 4K resolution does not carry over to rear footage. The 70mai EU product page lists these options.

Is the A810S good at night?
70mai says its STARVIS 2 sensor and Night Owl Vision processing balance exposure, reduce noise, and control glare. These are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements of plate readability or a demonstrated lead over competing cameras. The DashCamTalk review page provides day and night sample footage and gives night video a score of 7/10; that score reflects one reviewer’s assessment, not a controlled market-wide test. View the DashCamTalk A810S review and sample footage.
For the A810S-versus-A810 comparison, YugaTech says both front cameras use the same IMX678 sensor and describes the newer model’s night improvement as slight rather than dramatic. That is one reviewer’s observation under its review conditions, not a standardized test. YugaTech also notes that rear recording is capped at 1080p. See its A810S versus A810 comparison.
What a useful night test should show
Sensor names and image-processing features alone cannot settle whether a camera will capture useful evidence at night. When comparing sample clips, prioritize the details that matter in a real incident:

- Can you read a license plate at a realistic distance, including when a vehicle is moving?
- Do headlights and illuminated signs retain detail, or wash out into glare?
- Are dark areas legible, or obscured by noise and aggressive processing?
- Does motion blur erase important details? Are colors and noise acceptable?
- How does the 1080p rear view compare with the front view under the same conditions?
A fair head-to-head requires the same route, camera settings, windshield, exposure conditions, and playback display. The available reviews do not establish a standardized independent test across current competitors, so “new king” is not a substantiated conclusion.

How the A810S differs from the A810
70mai’s listed A810S specification changes include F1.7 versus F1.8 aperture, Wi-Fi 6 versus Wi-Fi 4, a supercapacitor plus button cell versus a lithium battery, buffered emergency recording, and support for up to 512GB rather than 256GB of storage. These are specification differences; they do not by themselves prove better image quality or night performance. Verify that each detail applies to the version sold in your region using the manufacturer’s A810S specification page.
YugaTech’s direct night-footage assessment is that the improvement is modest, despite the shared IMX678 front sensor. For a purchase decision, compare actual clips as well as the differences that affect your use: rear-camera configuration, storage, connectivity, parking-mode power, bundle contents, and total installed cost.

Parking mode, storage, and setup requirements
Plan for parking-mode power
Parking surveillance is not simply an always-on feature powered by the camera alone. The EU product page says parking functions require a compatible hardwire kit or OBD-II adapter, and names UP04, UP06, and UP03 hardwire kits. Which accessory is appropriate depends on the vehicle, configuration, and region; confirm compatibility before purchase. YugaTech likewise notes that advanced parking and remote monitoring require optional accessories.
Install a memory card
The EU product page lists microSD capacity up to 512GB. A card is required for recording and is sold separately, according to the available manual copy. Choose a suitable high-endurance card within the supported capacity range; the sources do not establish a specific card model.

Who should consider the A810S?
- Consider it if you want a 4K front camera, value the listed feature set, and are comfortable selecting the appropriate rear camera and power accessories for your vehicle.
- Compare it carefully if night plate capture is your deciding factor. Look for comparable footage in similar conditions rather than treating “Night Owl Vision” or the sensor name as proof of a class-leading result.
- Check the full setup if you need rear coverage or parking surveillance. Rear video is 1080p, and parking functions require an additional compatible power accessory.
For any competing camera, compare front and rear resolution, night plate capture, HDR behavior, parking-mode power requirements, app and connectivity, storage, regional warranty and support, and the price of a complete installation. No cross-brand winner is established by the available comparisons.
