The 2024 Honda NX500 is the successor to the CB500X, not a clean-sheet replacement. Honda kept the familiar 471cc parallel-twin platform but updated the styling, lighting, display, traction-control equipment, wheels and suspension settings. For the U.S. models, Honda lists the NX500 at 432 pounds curb weight, down seven pounds from the 2023 CB500X.
2023 CB500X vs. 2024 NX500: the main differences
This comparison uses the 2023 CB500X and 2024 NX500 as sold in the United States. Honda describes the NX500 as the model previously called the CB500X; its new name and revised equipment mark an evolution of the same basic motorcycle.

What Honda changed on the NX500
New styling and LED lighting
The NX500 received redesigned adventure-style bodywork, a new LED headlight and an LED taillight. American Honda says the headlight spreads light more widely to improve nighttime visibility; that is Honda’s stated benefit, not an independent lighting-test result. A five-inch TFT replaces the older instrumentation
The NX500 gets a five-inch full-color TFT display. Honda Global’s European announcement also specifies Honda RoadSync smartphone connectivity, but that does not establish availability on every market’s version. Check the equipment list for the exact bike and country before relying on RoadSync. Honda’s European 2024 line-up announcement covers that market’s connectivity details.
HSTC becomes standard
Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) is standard equipment on the NX500. The reviewed U.S. CB500X brochure does not list traction control, and Honda identifies HSTC as a new feature for the NX500.

Lighter wheels and revised suspension settings
Honda says the NX500’s new wheels reduce unsprung weight by 3.3 pounds. It also revised the front fork and rear shock settings. These are manufacturer-reported changes; without comparable independent riding tests, they do not establish a specific improvement in handling or comfort.
A seven-pound lower listed curb weight
American Honda lists the NX500 at 432 pounds curb weight and the 2023 CB500X at 439 pounds, a seven-pound reduction in the U.S. specifications. Honda attributes part of the update to the lighter wheels; the figures do not mean the entire reduction comes from the wheels alone.

Updated engine response, not a claimed power increase
Honda says an ECU and fuel-injection update improves the feel of acceleration. That is a claim about response, not evidence of higher peak power. Honda Global says the European NX500’s output remains 35 kW and 43 Nm, unchanged from its predecessor. Those are European-market ratings and should not be treated as U.S. specifications.
What stayed familiar
The U.S. brochures show the same core engine layout and displacement, six-speed transmission, seat height, fuel capacity and tire sizes for the two model years. The NX500 remains a 471cc liquid-cooled parallel twin rather than adopting a different engine concept. Honda lists a 32.8-inch seat height and 4.7-gallon tank for both U.S. models, so the name change did not bring a change to those basic fit and capacity figures.

Which one makes more sense to buy?
The NX500 is the clearer choice if you want the newer factory equipment, particularly the TFT display and standard HSTC. A used CB500X may still suit a buyer who values the same basic engine and dimensions, but its condition, price and installed equipment matter more than the name alone. No universal value verdict is possible without a specific bike’s asking price, condition and local NX500 equipment.
- Confirm the model year and country specification, especially for display connectivity.
- Compare the used bike’s service history and condition with the new or newer bike’s price and warranty terms.
- Check the exact equipment rather than assuming every feature is present across markets or model years.
- Verify accessory compatibility by exact year and part number; Honda’s general accessory language does not establish that CB500X parts fit an NX500.
Why the CB500X model year matters
The CB500X changed during its production run. Honda says it launched in 2013, received a larger fuel tank and more wind protection in 2016, and moved from a 17-inch to a 19-inch front wheel in 2019. A comparison with an older CB500X therefore needs to account for its year and equipment; it is not necessarily identical to the 2023 model covered here.
