The Honda CB1000 Hornet is a liter-class naked streetfighter, not a faired CBR sportbike. Its 999cc inline-four, six-speed manual and upright-oriented layout are shared across the range, while the SP adds higher-output Japan-market tuning and premium suspension, brakes and a standard quick shifter. Prices, specifications and availability vary by country, so compare the figures below only within their stated markets.

1. What kind of motorcycle is the CB1000 Hornet?

Honda describes the CB1000 Hornet as a streetfighter-style road motorcycle. It uses an inline-four related to the architecture of Honda’s CBR1000RR superbike engine, but Honda says the engine received dedicated tuning for street use. It is a naked bike rather than a faired CBR. These are Honda’s product descriptions, not independent road-test findings. Honda Japan model page; Honda Powersports features.

2. What engine and performance figures does it have?

The engine is a liquid-cooled, DOHC 999cc inline-four. Output figures are market-specific; the values below are manufacturer claims, not directly interchangeable test results.

Market and trim Maximum power Maximum torque
Japan, standard 112 kW (152 PS) at 11,000 rpm 104 Nm at 9,000 rpm
Japan, SP 116 kW (158 PS) at 11,000 rpm 107 Nm at 9,000 rpm
India, SP 115.6 kW 107 Nm

Honda Japan’s figures were current as of December 2024; Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India quoted its separate SP figures in the May 2025 launch announcement. Do not treat the Japan and India numbers as a single global specification. Honda Japan specifications; Honda India launch announcement.

3. What is the difference between the standard model and SP?

The SP’s distinguishing equipment is its upgraded rear suspension and front brakes, variable exhaust valve and standard quick shifter. Exact components depend on market: Honda’s US specification names an Öhlins TTX36 rear shock and Brembo Stylema front calipers, while Honda Japan lists Öhlins rear suspension and Brembo front calipers. Honda Japan launch announcement; Honda Powersports features; American Honda 2026 specifications.

4. What transmission does it use, and how does the SP quick shifter work?

The CB1000 Hornet has a six-speed manual transmission. Honda says the SP’s quick shifter enables clutchless upshifts under full power. Honda India describes its unit as bidirectional, but that detail should not be assumed for every market; verify the local model specification if downshift operation matters to you. Honda India also lists an assist/slipper clutch. Honda Powersports; Honda India.

For a concrete fit reference, Honda Japan lists an 809mm seat height; the US SP page lists 31.9 inches. Those are market-published specifications, and fit still depends on rider proportions and footwear. Honda Powersports features and specifications; Honda Japan specifications.

6. What electronics and display does it have?

Honda lists a five-inch TFT display for the US SP. Honda Japan says its display offers three display types, while Honda India describes RoadSync smartphone connectivity for navigation, call alerts and music control. Connectivity features and phone compatibility can vary by market and device, so check the local model details and compatibility information before relying on a particular function. 8. How much does it weigh, and what fuel economy is quoted?

Published weight and fuel-economy figures use different market conventions and should be read in context.

Market and trim Weight Fuel economy
Japan, standard 211 kg 22.0 km/L at constant speed; 17.7 km/L under WMTC
Japan, SP 212 kg 22.0 km/L at constant speed; 17.7 km/L under WMTC
United States, 2026 SP 465 lb curb weight Not stated on the cited US specification page

The Japanese economy values are test-cycle figures, not a promise of real-world consumption; Honda notes that actual economy varies with usage and conditions. The US listing supplies its own curb-weight figure rather than the Japanese market’s figures. Honda Japan specifications; Honda Powersports 2026 model page.

9. How much does the CB1000 Hornet cost?

These announced or listed prices are country-specific and use different tax and fee treatments, so they are not directly comparable.

Market and trim Published price What it includes or excludes
Japan, standard ¥1,342,000 Suggested retail price including 10% consumption tax; associated costs excluded. Announced December 2024.
Japan, SP ¥1,584,000 Suggested retail price including 10% consumption tax; associated costs excluded. Announced December 2024.

United States, 2026 SP $10,999 base MSRP plus $775 destination; Honda displays $11,774 total MSRP Before taxes, license, registration, dealer-installed options and setup fees.

In India, Honda said bookings opened and deliveries were planned from June 2025 through BigWing Topline. In Japan, Honda announced a planned release date of January 23, 2025, through Honda Dream. These launch announcements establish planned market access, not current dealer stock. Honda Japan pricing and launch; Honda India price and availability; Honda US 2026 listing.

10. Is it available in every market, and what is not yet established?

No single worldwide launch date, price or specification applies. Honda Japan’s December 2024 announcement set a planned domestic release and annual sales volume of 600 units for the CB1000 Hornet series; that is a Japan domestic plan, not global production or sales. Honda India announced its SP launch in May 2025, while Honda Powersports lists a 2026 SP for the United States. Confirm the model year, trim, equipment and actual stock with the Honda distributor or dealer in your country.

The official sources cited here do not establish independent road-test performance, owner reliability statistics, recall status or a like-for-like comparison with rivals. Those require separate evidence; manufacturer specifications alone cannot answer them. Honda Japan announcement; Honda India announcement; Honda US listing.
