The U.S.-market eighth-generation Honda Accord came as a sedan or coupe, with four-cylinder and V6 powertrains and trim names that varied by body style and model year. Honda’s brochures make it possible to compare factory specifications, equipment and historical EPA estimates—but they do not establish a complete facelift timeline or the condition, reliability, recall status or safety ratings of a used car today.
Which body styles and trims were offered?
Honda’s U.S. brochures show separate sedan and coupe lineups, and the names are not interchangeable across body styles or model years. Equipment also varies by year, so a trim badge alone is not enough to confirm what a particular car has.
| Model-year brochure | Sedan lineup | Coupe lineup |
|---|---|---|
| 2009 | LX/LX-P, EX/EX-L, EX V-6/EX-L V-6 | LX-S/EX/EX-L, EX-L V-6 |
| 2011 and 2012 | LX/LX-P/SE, EX/EX-L, EX V-6/EX-L V-6 | LX-S/EX/EX-L, EX-L V-6 |
These groupings follow Honda’s brochures; they do not imply that every trim name or feature remained unchanged throughout 2008–2012. Check the specific car’s factory equipment and condition rather than inferring either from its badge. Honda’s 2012 brochure, 2011 specifications and features comparison and 2009 specifications are the cited references.
What engines and transmissions were available?
The range covered a 2.4-liter inline-four in two output levels and a 3.5-liter V6. American Honda’s 2011 brochure lists the four-cylinder at 177 hp or 190 hp, depending on configuration, and the V6 at 271 hp. Those are factory specifications, not independent performance measurements. Transmission availability also depended on body style and trim.

- TRANSPONDER CHIP REQUIRED TO START CAR: If your original key fob has a transponder chip, you must transfer it (some users secure it with a small amount of glue). Without the chip, the vehicle may not start.
- Four-cylinder: The 2009 brochure lists a five-speed manual in selected models and five-speed automatic transmissions in many configurations.
- V6: The V6 coupe was offered with an available six-speed manual; the brochures also list automatic configurations.
- V6 cylinder management: Honda specifies Variable Cylinder Management on certain automatic V6 configurations. The manufacturer describes it as deactivating cylinders under suitable cruising conditions to help improve efficiency; that description is not a real-world fuel-economy test.
Because the exact combinations depend on year, body style and trim, verify the configuration of the individual vehicle rather than assuming every transmission was available with every engine.
How do the sedan and coupe compare for space?
Honda’s 2009 specifications show the sedan as longer and roomier by the published passenger- and cargo-volume figures. The coupe is shorter and has a shorter wheelbase. These measurements help frame the choice, but they do not establish subjective comfort, visibility or the condition of a particular car.

When comparing two cars, consider whether four doors or a two-door layout better suits your passengers, how often you carry bulky items, and whether the rear seating works for the people who will use it. Sit in and inspect the actual vehicle.

Confirm equipment on the specific car, and check that it is present and functioning. These brochure specifications are not independent crash-test ratings and do not show whether equipment remains operational on an older vehicle.
What fuel economy did the 2012 Accord have?
The figures below are Honda’s 2012 brochure’s EPA estimates for that model year, not a promise of what a used Accord will achieve. Honda cautions that actual mileage varies with driving and maintenance.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What does “facelift included” mean for 2008–2012?
The available Honda brochures document specifications and equipment for 2009, 2011 and 2012, but they do not provide a complete year-by-year record of facelift changes. They are not enough to reliably identify which styling, chassis or equipment details changed in a particular year. Do not treat a general facelift label as proof that a specific feature appeared on every later car; establish a change using dated Honda model-year material for the vehicle in question.

What should you verify before buying a used Accord?
Factory brochures are useful for comparing original configurations, but they cannot establish current vehicle condition or ownership risks. Use them as a starting point, then check the particular car.
Quick Recap
- Identify the car precisely. Confirm model year, sedan or coupe, engine, transmission and trim; compare the equipment actually present with the relevant model-year specifications.
- Assess fit and space in person. Try the seats and rear access, and check whether the cargo area meets your needs.
- Inspect the vehicle and its records. Have its condition assessed and review its service history; brochure specifications do not establish reliability or maintenance history.
- Check current safety and recall information separately. The cited brochures are not independent crash-test results and do not establish current recall status. Verify the specific vehicle by VIN through an appropriate current source before purchase.
