The June 2024 owner manual adds time and kilometre windows for each free service, specifies the required 10W-30 JASO MA2 oil, and makes scheduled authorised servicing a condition of warranty eligibility. Hero does not publish one nationwide rupee price, so treat online cost figures as estimates and obtain a current dealer quote.
Exact Hero Xtreme 160R 4V service intervals
Use the owner manual supplied with your motorcycle as the controlling document. Hero’s model-specific service article gives the simple cadence, while the June 2024 manual provides the practical kilometre and time windows. If a generic service webpage shows a different interval, follow the model-year manual for your Xtreme 160R 4V.

The kilometre windows are deliberately narrow. Booking at 6,500 km rather than waiting for a substantially higher odometer reading helps preserve the intended maintenance record. The manual also says paid services should be taken within 180 days of the previous service or within the recommended schedule, whichever is earlier.
What is checked, adjusted and replaced
Hero’s maintenance matrix uses these codes: I for inspect, C for clean, R for replace, A for adjust, L for lubricate and E for emission check. A service invoice may list the code rather than a long description, so ask the adviser to explain any item you do not recognize.

Every-ride and routine safety checks
Before riding, check tyre condition and pressure, brake operation, lights, horn, mirrors, fluid leaks and the drive chain. These checks are not a substitute for scheduled servicing, but they can reveal a loose fastener, damaged tyre or low fluid before it becomes a breakdown or safety problem.
Drive chain: inspect every 1,000 km
The manual calls for drive-chain inspection, cleaning, lubrication and adjustment every 1,000 km. The workshop should check slack, tight spots, roller and sprocket condition, alignment and lubrication. Mud, rain, standing water and dusty roads can remove lubricant or accelerate wear, so do not wait for the 1,000-km point if the chain is noisy, dry, rusting or visibly contaminated. Excessive slack can cause driveline snatch; an over-tight chain can load the countershaft and suspension as the rear wheel moves through its travel.
Engine oil and oil strainer or paper filter work
Engine-oil replacement is part of the scheduled service. The manual also specifies inspection or servicing of the oil strainer and paper filter according to its matrix. Ask for the old oil to be drained fully and for the invoice to identify the oil quantity and grade used. A top-up is not the same as a complete oil change: the level should be checked on the motorcycle’s specified level surface and with the engine allowed to settle as described in the manual.

Air cleaner
Air-cleaner replacement is listed every 12,000 km. Hero says dusty use may require earlier replacement. A clogged element can restrict airflow and increase fuel consumption, while a damaged or poorly seated element can let abrasive dust reach the engine. Riders on unpaved roads, in construction areas or in very dusty cities should ask the technician to inspect it at every visit rather than assuming the 12,000-km interval is suitable.
Spark plug and valve clearance
Spark-plug work and valve-clearance checks appear in the scheduled matrix. Valve clearance is not a visual check; it requires measurement with the engine at the specified temperature and adjustment if the measured gap is outside specification. Hard starting, unstable idle, reduced performance or a ticking noise should be reported even if the next formal valve check is not yet due.
Fuel, throttle, cooling and electrical systems
Scheduled work includes fuel-line and throttle checks, oil-cooler-hose inspection, electrical starter and charging or circulation checks, and emission-related checks. The technician should look for cracked hoses, seepage, damaged wiring, loose connectors and a throttle that does not return smoothly. Report any overheating warning, difficult starting or intermittent electrical fault so it can be diagnosed rather than simply recorded as “checked.”

Correct engine oil for the Xtreme 160R 4V
The June 2024 owner manual specifies Hero 4T Plus SAE 10W-30, API SL, JASO MA2. The viscosity, API category and motorcycle-specific JASO MA2 friction specification are all part of the requirement; do not select oil by viscosity alone.

If the oil already in the engine is unknown, tell the workshop before adding oil and request a complete drain and refill with one approved product rather than blending two formulations. Keep the oil container or a clear invoice record if warranty documentation may later be needed.
How much does Xtreme 160R 4V servicing cost?
There is no single official, nationwide rupee tariff published in the reviewed Hero material. A final bill depends on city, workshop labour rate, GST, oil quantity and grade, whether a service is free or paid, consumables, wear parts and any fault found during inspection. Independent 2026 calculators publish indicative visit ranges and multi-year totals, but those figures are budgeting examples, not manufacturer prices and not guarantees for your dealer.

For a current figure, contact a Hero authorised workshop or use Hero’s current service-cost estimator, then provide the registration details, odometer reading and service stage. Ask whether the quote includes GST, oil, filters, chain lubricant, consumables and any pickup or delivery charge. Compare like-for-like estimates: a low quote that excludes oil or scheduled parts is not cheaper than a complete quote.
Free service does not mean every part is free
The owner manual states that replacement parts such as filters and consumables such as engine oil during paid or free service are at the customer’s expense. “Free service” generally refers to the eligible labour or campaign structure, not a promise that every oil, filter, plug or wear item costs nothing. Read the job card before signing and check the final invoice against the approved estimate.
Warranty and the consequences of missing a service
The Xtreme 160R 4V warranty is five years or 70,000 km, whichever comes first, measured from the purchase date. The manual advises taking all free and paid services at an authorised Hero workshop and states that scheduled authorised servicing is required for warranty eligibility.

Missing an interval does not automatically prove that every future claim will be rejected, but it creates a compliance problem. A dealer or manufacturer may ask for the service history when assessing a failed engine, transmission, electrical or emission component. A late service, non-authorised repair or missing invoice can make it harder to show that the motorcycle was maintained as required.
If you are already late
- Book the motorcycle with an authorised Hero workshop as soon as possible and tell the adviser the exact odometer reading and date of the last service.
- Ask the workshop to record the actual mileage and the reason for the delay on the job card.
- Have all overdue items inspected, including oil condition, chain slack, air cleaner, brakes, tyres, battery and fluid leaks.
- Keep the invoice, parts list and service stamp or digital record. Do not backdate an entry.
- If a warranty concern exists, describe the symptom before authorising unrelated repairs and request the dealer’s written explanation of coverage.
Do not postpone a service because the motorcycle is used infrequently. The six-month limit and the manual’s 180-day windows are time-based as well as distance-based. Conversely, high-mileage or severe-use riders can reach the kilometre limit first and should service by distance.
Severe and dusty use: when to shorten the interval
The manual allows for more frequent maintenance in severe or dusty conditions. Examples include regular unpaved-road riding, construction dust, repeated short trips, heavy stop-and-go traffic, prolonged high-load riding, frequent rain or water crossings, and long periods of idling. These conditions can contaminate the air cleaner, degrade chain lubricant, increase clutch and brake heat, and accelerate oil or filter contamination.
- Inspect and lubricate the chain after wet or muddy rides instead of waiting for the next 1,000-km checkpoint.
- Ask for an air-cleaner inspection at each visit when riding in dust; replacement may be needed before 12,000 km.
- Monitor oil level and leaks more often if the engine is used in heavy traffic or high temperatures.
- Replace brake pads, tyres or the chain set based on measured wear and condition, not on a fixed mileage promise.
A practical service-booking checklist
- Check the odometer and calendar against the table above; use whichever limit comes first.
- Locate the owner manual and previous invoices, then note any warning lights, noises, starting problems, oil leaks or changes in fuel economy.
- Book an authorised Hero workshop and request an estimate that lists labour, oil, filters, GST and proposed wear parts separately.
- Tell the adviser about dusty, wet, off-road or heavy-traffic use so the inspection can be adjusted.
- Before approval, confirm the oil specification: Hero 4T Plus SAE 10W-30, API SL, JASO MA2, without mixing it with Hero Xotic+.
- At collection, verify the recorded mileage, work completed, parts replaced, next due date and next due kilometre.
- Retain the invoice and service record for the full warranty period.
How to judge a service estimate
A credible estimate identifies the service stage, the applicable kilometre and time window, labour, each consumable, taxes and any additional diagnosis. It should distinguish “inspect” from “replace.” For example, a 12,000-km air-cleaner replacement is a scheduled item, while a chain-and-sprocket replacement is a condition-based wear repair. Ask for evidence when a recommendation changes the bill materially.
Local dealer availability also matters. If an authorised workshop is far away, plan appointments before the 60-day or 180-day window closes. A non-authorised garage may be convenient for an emergency, but use of authorised service for scheduled work provides the clearest documentation for warranty eligibility.
Bottom line for owners
Schedule the first service at 500–750 km and within 60 days, then use the manual’s 6,000–6,500 km, 12,000–12,500 km and 18,000–18,500 km windows, followed by 6,000-km or six-month intervals. Use the specified 10W-30 API SL JASO MA2 oil, service the chain every 1,000 km, replace the air cleaner at 12,000 km or sooner in dust, and keep every authorised-workshop record. Because Hero does not publish one nationwide price, obtain a detailed local estimate instead of relying on an unofficial single-number claim.
