Hardsider’s HardTent is a folding rooftop tent designed to raise rigid, origami-style walls as its roof opens. The manufacturer lists a 7-inch folded height, an estimated 200-pound weight and a $6,000 price, but its FAQ still describes the SUV tent as a future launch. Availability and current pricing therefore need confirmation with Hardsider.
How the HardTent’s folding walls work
HardTent is a hard-walled rooftop tent, not a conventional soft-sided tent inside a hard shell. Hardsider describes prefolded walls that unfold as the roof rises, creating the tent’s enclosed living space. New Atlas reported that the walls use rigid honeycomb composite with laminated waterproof insulation. Those are product descriptions, not independently verified performance results.
New Atlas also described a dual air intake system and a Froli spring system beneath the mattress. Hardsider says the intake system circulates fresh air and makes a “zero condensation” claim; that wording should be treated as the manufacturer’s claim, not a guarantee in every climate or use condition. No independent test data establishes condensation performance, insulation effectiveness or setup time.
HardTent dimensions, weight and listed price
Hardsider’s product page gives the following figures. Its weight is explicitly an estimate, and the page does not state a publication date for these specifications or price.

These dimensions help describe the tent, but they do not establish that it fits a particular vehicle or roof-rack arrangement. Hardsider says installation requires two roof crossbars or a roof-rack platform and that the vehicle must be larger than the tent’s 96-by-52-inch dimensions. Before fitting one, check the vehicle maker’s roof-load guidance and the rack maker’s limits; the product-page dimensions alone do not confirm a safe fit. See Hardsider’s HardTent product page.
Is HardTent available to buy?
Hardsider’s official pages give conflicting signals. The product page displays specifications and a $6,000.00 USD price. Its FAQ, however, says: “In the future, yes! We’re calling it HardTent and it will be able to be installed on almost any vehicle that is larger than the HardTent dimensions, 96″x52″. You’ll just need two roof crossbars or a roof rack platform. Stay tuned for HardTent’s official launch.” The current launch status is therefore unresolved. Contact Hardsider to confirm whether orders are being accepted and to verify current price, warranty, shipping and vehicle fitment before making a purchase decision.

How the 2024 comparison figures should be read
New Atlas’s May 10, 2024 article positioned HardTent against other hard-sided rooftop campers. It reported the AntiShanty Rooftop Dwelling at 275–290 lb (125–132 kg), depending on model, with a starting price of US$9,500, and gave US$20,000 as the cost of the Redtail Overland Rooftop Camper. These are figures reported in that 2024 article, not verified current specifications or prices.
In the same dated context, the estimated 200-pound HardTent figure and its 7-inch folded height suggest a design aimed at a relatively low roof profile. But a current market ranking for weight, price or overall value cannot be established from these dated competitor figures. The listed dimensions and price also do not prove how easily the tent installs or performs in real-world conditions. See New Atlas’s May 10, 2024 overview for the historical comparison.

- Whether HardTent has officially launched and is available to order.
- The current price, warranty terms, shipping cost and delivery timing.
- Whether your vehicle’s roof and rack are rated for the tent and its loaded use; confirm the requirements with the vehicle and rack manufacturers.
- Whether the tent’s 96-inch length, 59-inch total width and 7-inch folded height work with your vehicle and intended parking or storage arrangements.
- What the manufacturer’s ventilation and condensation claims mean for your climate and sleeping conditions, since independent performance testing is not established by the cited sources.
