The Best Electric SUV Lease Deals Reported in December 2024

Electrek reported several electric SUV lease examples in December 2024, including a $159-per-month IONIQ 5 with $3,999 due at signing. Its term is disputed, and the offers are historical—not confirmed current deals.

Electrek’s December 24, 2024 roundup named the 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 among the lowest advertised electric SUV lease offers at $159 per month with $3,999 due at signing. But the article gives conflicting lease terms—24 months in its table and 36 months in its text—so that term is unresolved. Its table’s estimate of $326 per month after upfront fees is a better comparison than the headline payment alone. These are historical examples, not offers confirmed to be available today.

What the December 2024 comparison reported

The figures below are examples published by Electrek on December 24, 2024, not a verified national ranking or current offers. Terms and upfront payments vary, and the article does not provide complete, comparable mileage, tax, fee, trim, and eligibility details for every vehicle.

2024 electric SUV Advertised payment Term reported Due at signing Effective payment including upfront fees
Hyundai IONIQ 5 $159/month Conflicting: 24 months in the table; 36 months in the article text $3,999 $326/month
Kia EV6 $159/month 24 months $3,849 $319/month
Nissan Ariya $169/month in the New York example; $99/month in a Colorado-only example 24 months $6,219 in the New York example $428/month for the listed New York example
Toyota bZ4X $219/month 39 months $2,999 $296/month
Honda Prologue $229/month 36 months $1,299 $265/month
Ford Mustang Mach-E $251/month 36 months $5,440 $402/month
Subaru Solterra $279/month 36 months $279 $287/month

Why the lowest advertised payment may not be the best deal

A monthly figure leaves out much of what a shopper pays. The IONIQ 5 example makes the difference visible: the article reported $159 per month but estimated $326 per month when its upfront fees were included. That effective figure helps put the advertised payment in context, but it cannot resolve missing contract details or make offers with different terms directly equivalent.

Before comparing two offers, check the full lease terms together:

  • Lease length and total scheduled payments
  • Cash due at signing and whether it includes fees, taxes, or the first payment
  • Annual mileage allowance and charges for excess mileage
  • Taxes, acquisition or documentation fees, and other required costs
  • Vehicle trim and any required equipment
  • Geographic restrictions and customer eligibility

Location can change the offer

The Ariya examples were not interchangeable: Electrek described a $99-per-month offer as limited to Colorado and listed a New York example at $169 per month with $6,219 due at signing. A low advertised payment may depend on where the vehicle is leased, so confirm that the offer applies to your location before treating it as an option.

What this historical roundup can—and cannot—establish

The roundup records advertised examples from December 2024; it does not establish that any of them remain available now. Nor does it settle the IONIQ 5 lease term: the table says 24 months, while the article text says 36. Without authoritative archived offer terms, that discrepancy should remain unresolved rather than be guessed.

Electrek also reported that nearly 9% of U.S. vehicle sales in the third quarter of 2024 were electric vehicles, attributing the figure to Cox Automotive context. It quoted Cox Automotive director of Industry Insights Stephanie Valdez Streaty saying, “The growth is being fueled in part by incentives and discounts.” That market context does not verify the terms or availability of any individual lease.
