What cars are in Gordon Murray’s collection?
There is no established complete, current list or authoritative total for Murray’s cars. The best-known published list is a selection Top Gear described as his personal cars in a feature dated 8 November 2017. It shows the breadth of the collection at that time, but should not be read as a present-day ownership register.

The list is a dated snapshot, not evidence that every example remains in his garage. Top Gear’s 31 May 2021 feature characterized the classics it discussed as “sub-1000kg” cars and reported that Murray liked to drive them. That phrase is the publication’s description of the group, not a verified weight audit of each vehicle. Top Gear also described the other classics in that feature as working and driven by Murray.
Does Gordon Murray still own a McLaren F1?
Top Gear reported on 31 May 2021 that Murray had sold his personal McLaren F1. Older photographs or lists can document past ownership, but they do not establish that the car is still in his private collection.

What has been seen at public displays?
Cars shown alongside Murray’s work are not necessarily part of his personal collection. Event announcements distinguish private-collection selections from cars belonging to or displayed by Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA).
- Goodwood Members’ Meeting, 2025: Goodwood’s announcement described a selection from Murray’s personal collection in the paddocks, while identifying the T.33 and T.50s as GMA display cars.
- Festival of Speed, 2025: GMA announced a heritage display of Murray-designed road and race cars alongside its current supercars, including the T.50, T.50s Niki Lauda, T.33 and T.33 Spider. Their place in his design history does not establish his personal ownership of those specific examples.
The distinction matters: a car can be part of Murray’s design legacy, appear at a GMA event, or belong to his private collection. Those are separate claims.

What does the collection say about Murray’s design philosophy?
The reported mix of small sports cars, classics and competition machinery fits the lightweight, purposeful engineering that has characterized Murray’s work. In a GMA announcement dated 17 March 2025, he connected that history directly to the company’s present-day cars: “The supercars that Gordon Murray Automotive builds today are inspired by every car I’ve designed, raced, and owned.” He also said, “For 60 years I have enjoyed the design and engineering challenge of pushing the boundaries of what’s possible – be that in racing or road cars.”
That connection makes the collection interesting beyond its individual names: it offers context for the design instincts Murray says inform his newer work, without making every GMA car a personal possession.

What is known about his everyday car?
A University of Greater Manchester account published on 27 April 2026, after a GMA factory tour, reported that Murray’s daily driver was a 2007 Fiat Panda. This is a detail from that visitor account, not a guarantee of what he drives now. The same account said visitors saw his private car and bike collection; it does not establish routine public access, regular tours, or a general policy for where the collection is kept.
